Which vacuum cleaner would you recommend?

Hi everyone!

We're making plans to research, test and review a new round of vacuum cleaners (corded and cordless), so we'd love to hear which products you'd recommend.

If you've used (and loved!) a particular product recently, then please do tell us about it. This will help us to create a shortlist of vacuum cleaners to put to the test.

Also, if you have any tips on what we should be looking for in a vacuum cleaner then please do share your comments on this thread - we'll then add your tips and advice to our updated buyer's guide.

Miele as main vacuum and Bosch althlet for whizz round.

Big advantage of the Bosch athlet is that the rechargeable battery is the same one that our Bosch drill uses. This means one is always on the charger and the other one on then cleaner. So when it runs out we just switch over. Total fluke that we also happened to have a Bosch drill!

Love my sebo x4 for carpets.

Love my basic miele C1 even more for hard floors, stairs and ceiling cobwebs.

Sebo Felix. It's made the most amazing difference to my sons allergies and our carpets look so much better. It goes right to the edge of the carpet too and as it isn't bagless you don't end up having to hoover and wipe everything down when you empty the bloody dust canister.

Dyson Animal 25 (in fact got to hold on to it, when I did a survey on here about ten years ago) we use this downstairs and a Sebo upstairs.

I like my standard dyson but if I was buying now I'd get a gtech. My friend has one and it's fab.

Had a Miele but prefer shark. They've thought of everything. You can access every part easily to clean and defluff. They even have a special brush for long hair dogs etc that doesn't tangle or wrap around the brush bar and even in the lesser model the brush bar just lifts up through the top for cleaning. It's genius . Also to empty you can release both top and bottom of the collection bin so you get everything out . I've a long haired dog so this is brilliant as his hair always gets trapped in the top of the bin and I could never reach it before!

Miele, works great and has for years. Thinking of also getting a robot vacuum so I would be interested in reviews of those!

I have a Shark Liftaway. It's extremely powerful, I love it as it practically lifts my carpets when vacuuming them.

Have a VAX cordless for my tiled kitchen which is OK.

Have had a Hetty before and liked it but didn't think it was great on carpets.

When my Shark packs in I'll get a new one.

Should add i had a Miele before my Shark and it was more expensive and absolutely rubbish! I am very fussy with vacuum cleaners though so might just have been me Grin

I’ve been reasonably happy with my Dyson - V6, I think. I’m definitely a convert to cordless, the Dyson is currently playing up so I had the old corded Miele out and it was a such a pain. But the Dyson IS playing up so ... I’ve never been impressed with the (non) ease of emptying, or how awkward one of the filters is to clean, and now it seems to fail a lot. I’ll move on from it soon, we’re getting new carpets and I’d rather not have them at the mercy of a vacuum that has a sulk every time its got a bit too much fluff in it.

Hetty/Henry all the way. We've tried Dysons etc. but never had anything as good as our Hetty.

Miele for me. I used to hate Dyson, especially the old clunky made out of heavy plastic. So awkward and unwieldy.
Henry's are good but very annoying to balance on stairs.

Miele can adapt to any job and if you get the beating attachment is as good as any upright IMO.

I have a Henry and a hetty ( Henry in car as I'm a cleaner).

Very easy to pull around,the cord is long and they are easy to carry

Miele cat and dog - love it.
My mum's Dyson - awful, far too heavy and difficult to manoeuvre.

I have had a Sebo for the past 12 years and found it very good. However now thinking of getting a different Hoover. Confused by the different types of Sharks.

Shark cordless duo-clean with the twin battery pack.

A complete game changer.

Light, easy to use, folds down to an extremely compact size for storage and does this incredibly weird and useful bendy thing for going underneath furniture.

The twin battery pack means that even if the battery runs flat you can just slot in the spare without having to wait for hours for it to charge again.

Fantastic!
