I am beset by flies - why and what can I do?

So in my big kitchen and dining room, loads and loads of flies, like, a dozen buzzing about.

Just regular flies, not big bluebottles but not little fruit flies either. Why? And how do I get rid?

It's not manky fruit, I've checked, it's not the bin as it is emptied regularly and anyway only has dry stuff in really....

The Guinea pig is in the room full time since her sister left us earlier this year, but she was there all summer and the flies have only appeared in the last week or so. Help!

Drain flies? Is it more of a skittish fly they do?

Not anywhere near a drain tho, kitchen sink is at the other end of the room. argh!

If it's not drain flies (small, skittish flying, tiny bit bigger than fruit flies) then check all the crevices of the guinea pig cage/hutch/pen. I had a fly infestation when I used to keep pet rats. Couldn't understand how, when i kept killing the flies, they'd just be more the next day.

Turned out, as I kept the rats in an adapted bird cage, where the bottom seed tray could pull out, a fly had got in down the side of the tray and there was a cluster of fly eggs/larvae. It was gross.

Extractor fan filter? Could have flown in and laid eggs?

Oooh I wonder if it might be a Guinea pig cage infestation, yuk, will set Ds2 to clean it up 😁😁
