I am a hoarder. My house was disgusting and I stopped letting visitors in.
It was so hard to start and it took days to make the first step.. I am so glad I did!! I am sitting here in 1 tidy clutter free room and it feels amazing.
I would like to start an inspirational thread for others facing the same mountain.

That’s amazing! Well done 👍

LocksMyth · 26/02/2019 19:45

Thanks. I booked annual leave to force myself into dealing with this... Wasted half of it because I couldn't face it. I'm on a roll now... 😁

Awww - well done! It must feel great. Imagine how fab you'll feel when the whole house is done! One step at a time. Here are some virtual Flowers to put in a vase in your tidy room Grin.

Samind · 26/02/2019 19:51

Well done OP!! 😀 What motivated you?

LocksMyth · 26/02/2019 19:54

Thank you! I have a teenage daughter who tolerated everything because she loves me.. Just seeing her face when she came home makes it worth the angst.. I still feel ashamed of how bad things were but there's no looking back. I will tackle another room at the weekend.

That's amazing well done! Your daughter must be so happy! Good luck for the weekend x

jellyshoeswithdiamonds · 26/02/2019 19:57

Well done you.

My mother is a hoarder so know how tough today must have been for you.

You've done the hard part ... starting.

You deserve a Wine

BackforGood · 26/02/2019 19:58

That's excellent.
Well done you.
Which room are you doing next ?

Samind · 26/02/2019 20:00

Awe that's amazing news!! Theres no point getting mad at yourself as it sneaks up bit by bit and the same with smoking (20 a day habit myself) I never intended to be a long term smoker so don't judge yourself. I think it's genuinely great what you've managed to accomplish. Some people never get that push.

LocksMyth · 26/02/2019 20:09

The cobwebs and thick dust were truly horrible. I can't believe we lived like this. I kept finding things I didn't know I owned.. parting with it was painful but luckily I have a charity shop on walking distance. Taking it straight there helped.
We have a living room now and next is the dining room and then kitchen.
That's downstairs finished ( indoors anyway).
To anyone struggling with a similar situation I truly hope you find the courage to make the first step.
The sense of achievement is amazing!

That's great news! You might even find enough things to have a car booty and make yourself some money! I'm so pleased to hear this 🙂🙂

Fettuccinecarbonara · 26/02/2019 20:20

This is wonderful to read. I’m in awe of you! Well done OP.

missmouse101 · 26/02/2019 20:20

Brilliant! I bet you can think straight in a lovely clear and clean room now! Keep us posted with tomorrow's progress! You CAN do this!

LocksMyth · 26/02/2019 20:27

I have sold a few things online via Facebook but I found it traumatic handing them over. (I made £50 which I gave to my daughter).
Giving things to charity was easier but only because it is local, I think.
I am back to work till the weekend but am determined to carry on now.

That is awesome, well done you, what a huge sense of achievement. I can't wait to hear how you continue x

LowLifeOpinions · 26/02/2019 21:07

Gosh, well done you. My mum often books annual leave to 'sort things' but never manages, she just churns (as it is known for hoarders). You've done brilliantly. Especially getting things straight out to the chazzer!

LocksMyth · 26/02/2019 21:22

I had bags and bags of collectible stuff. China, old banknotes, clothes, shoes, plates, books, piles of magazines, rubbish, furniture, pictures, knicknacks... allsorts. And that was just one room.
I am sitting here watching the Sewing Bee in my tidy room and it has 70s theme.. I have one remaining pair of 70s platform heels on the stairs which I couldn't bear to part with today....
I shall try to stay strong for the next challenge at the weekend.
Thanks so much for your support everyone.

Betsy86 · 26/02/2019 23:27

Tattletale · 26/02/2019 23:31

Well done OP. It must have been so hard but I bet your daughter is really proud of you Star

prettyhibiscusflowers · 26/02/2019 23:36

Well done op!
I sorted my wardrobe out tonight with the help of my mum. There was so much squashed in I couldn’t see what I’d got and some of it smelt horrid because of the lack of air circulating. It’s was overwhelming.
Feels great to get rid!

Samind · 27/02/2019 08:09

Morning OP! How did it feel to have a lovely open space this morning? Must feel like a different house!!

LocksMyth · 27/02/2019 20:19

Thanks everyone, for the lovely messages. It was beyond lovely to come home from work and sit in a clutter free room and relax. My daughter loves it too, even though she is too kind to say I can tell how much it means to her, as she keeps her own bedroom neat and tidy.
I still feel terrible for letting things get so bad, but glad I made this first step.
It really is like standing at the base of a massive mountain and feeling crippled by the thought of making just one step-even though you know the end result it is what you want in your heart.
That's why I wanted to start a thread.. For anyone else facing the same mountain.
Thanks everyone, here's to us all for being there for each other.
