Since we were all so chatty and supportive on the last thread, let's keep it going. We're not all mums, not all organised, but we're getting there!

For new joiners: check out www.theorganisedmum.blog for the basics of Level 1 and Level 2 jobs and then come and chat about it!

Great to see people getting back on the wagon and great point that this method is supposed to mean you worry less about housework.

I've had a busy week and the bad weather has meant the floors are hideous about 2 mins after I've cleaned them (our house you walk into the dining room straight from the high street, no entryway, and from the back garden straight into the kitchen). So I've just kept on with Level 1 sweeping daily, telling myself to leave the mud and I'll be back to my mopping day before I know it. I just don't have time to do it and I'm trying to really limit to 45 mins so I don't go all perfectionist about it.

Used clothes I fold and put away again when I take them off. Dirty stuff straight into the basket, worn once stuff back into the closet or drawers. Admittedly this is much easier since I Kondoed my clothes last summer, I used to have a floordrobe because my drawers and closet were so stuffed it was a pain to put things away.

Also the one load of laundry a day in Level 1 makes a difference - I used to do at least 7 loads on the weekend(!) and the clean dry laundry would sit on the side in my bedroom in ikea bags until we had a couple of hours spare to fold and put away. Now we do it every evening, usually while watching Netflix and it seldom builds up. Usually I fold and DH puts away.

One load of laundry a day most definitely makes a difference!

chimichangaz · 10/02/2019 22:09

There's only me and my DS 17 living here, I try to do the daily jobs and always start the week well then it falls away and I spend my weekend mornings doing housework Sad

Starting this week with all the washing and putting away done, I'm out tomorrow night but will try and do the living room before I go... Halo

londonloves · 11/02/2019 12:32

Hey everyone, am trapped under a teething snotty baby who won't nap in his bed so finally reading thread properly. I've also read up on the methods properly too. Did level 1s this morning and half the living room before the baby gave up napping in his bed! I have a few other daily jobs I like to do to add to the list but the little bit of bathroom every day I'm keen to try, as I struggle to do it in one go with the toddler in tow.

Re once work clothes - I have a chair for this purpose in the bedroom (although my husband doesn't use it correctly!!) and a hook on the back of the door in my son's room.

I've also started using the Best Self journal today, to try and get some structure and sense of achievement to my SAHM life!

This is a brilliant thread folks, thank you x

Littlechocola · 11/02/2019 19:39

@londonloves I need to know more about this journal!

Level 1 and 2 jobs completed.

Anyone else change their minds daily when it comes to miscellaneous room? I’m thinking porch, no snug, no I’ll do more in kitchen or bedroom!

NinaMarieP · 11/02/2019 22:08

I don't have any other rooms to be miscellaneous Grin

I use that Friday focus to deal with the nearest things to a room - the big cupboard in the living room and the one in the kitchen.

Littlechocola · 11/02/2019 22:18

@NinaMarieP I might pretend that the extra rooms aren’t there Grin

Xiaoxiong · 11/02/2019 23:22

My miscellaneous room is always the kids' playroom because it's always a disaster area 😣

Mopped floors today and did Level 1. I was only going to mop the living room but ended up doing all the hard flooring in the house. Absolutely foul, the water was brown when I poured the bucket away. I don't know how they get so filthy, I hoover daily and mop once a week!! I blame the dog...

@Littlechocola this is the Best Self website - uk.bestself.co/
There's an absolute ton of super expensive stuff you can buy and they do send loads of annoying emails BUT the 13 week journal is amazing. Space for weekly and daily planning with goal setting and reflections/gratitudes. I'm trying really hard at the moment To challenge my negative thinking patterns and it's helping already. Three months ago I was in a super high powered job and I'm loving being at home but finding the lack of structure a bit of a challenge so setting small goals (go to gym 3x week, do pelvic floor exercises every day) gives me a sense of achievement!

It's bedrooms today yeah? I usually change beds at weekend or to fit around people staying in our spare room so I'm a bit out of synch but will do the upstairs cleaning. The toddler likes to "help"...

NinaMarieP · 12/02/2019 12:48

I'm having a new bathroom fitted this week so I'm spending yesterday and today at my parents' with my 18m old. Never fear though, we did living room and kitchen on Sunday, and there's no bathroom to speak of to clean!

Littlechocola · 12/02/2019 17:41

@londonloves I want it all!!!

I did level 1 jobs before 7:00 but have yet to do the bedroom. It’s the worst room. Maybe I’ll wait until dh is watching crap later.

Littlechocola · 12/02/2019 17:42

@NinaMarieP lucky you! What style bathroom are you going for?

Xiaoxiong · 12/02/2019 17:44

Well I did Level 1 this morning, but put off my 30 mins till later...and now all bedroom action is off as DH has just texted saying we need to find the DCs birth certificates as a matter of urgency to register them for school! they're somewhere in the Box Room Of Doom so that's our evening gone because we really need to tackle filing at some point...

OP posts:
londonloves · 12/02/2019 19:48

I did level 2 except changing sheets, but took ages as had to tidy up a load of grot from the cat's litter tray in the spare room (he's living in there at the moment, fuck knows why, odd creature). Will do beds tomorrow when my mum arrives in guest room (she will do hers, yay!)

NinaMarieP · 12/02/2019 20:21

Easy to clean @Littlechocola! 😂

Our bathroom was awful with lots of wood panelling and mould and books and crannies. So we're getting wet wall - no grout. Laminate flooring that looks a bit like tiles - no grout. A toilet with the cistern in a unit, so no dusty space underneath...

This is a rough idea what it'll look like (I hope).

It'll be so nice to start fresh with a shiny clean bathroom Grinthat's it's worth a week of no bath/shower.

NinaMarieP · 12/02/2019 20:22

Nooks and crannies! Not books! I love books but they'd go mouldy and fall apart in my bathroom Shock

Fuckedoffat48b · 12/02/2019 20:26

I've now been doing this for a week and think I need to tweak it a little.

I am interested to see there are other people here with babies. I have a three month old, which I think presents a very different challenge to having three older boys and a dog which Gem has! Our house is nowhere near as filthy I imagine, but the idea I can reliably get half an hour a day in one go, on top of all the other jobs is optimistic!

Basically, I have hated the bathroom never being properly clean and it is small enough this can easily be done in half an hour, so I am planning on doing it on the day given over to hall and stairs (we don't really have a hall way). Also, I cloth nappy which involves a load every other day, and I prefer to have 'laundry days' for the rest of it. I did three loads today: nappies, bed sheets and towels probably won't do any tomorrow.

I'm also feeling our Hetty Hoover is less than ideal as it takes me about 5 mins to get out and put away it's so heavy! But £300 on a cordless vacuum isn't really something I can justify right now.

Does anyone else manage to hoover all over the house in the tier 1 jobs with a normal heavy vacuum?

londonloves · 12/02/2019 21:04

There's no way I could do any hoovering as part of level 1 without a cordless, our massive Hoover lives in the cupboard under the stairs and takes ages to get out and organise, I never use it now.
If you don't have pets and you're at pre-weaning stage you probably don't need to Hoover every day, I used to do it once a week.

Littlechocola · 12/02/2019 21:23

@NinaMarieP books and crannies sounds fabulous! It looks/ sounds beautiful!

Littlechocola · 12/02/2019 21:25

@Fuckedoffat48b I got a shark so it’s easy to take apart for stairs and car and not too heavy. Level 1. I only hoover the main areas so for us it’s kitchen and front room. It takes 5 minutes.

NinaMarieP · 12/02/2019 21:49

I've got a corded shark that was only £130. I love it. I had a ten year old dyson that weighed a ton and I could rarely be bothered to drag it out before. Now I can whizz around really quickly and it's great for under beds etc. (I don't work for Shark Wink).

I've tweaked a lot of the list to be honest.

I don't wash my living room throws every Monday for example, that's a waste of water, electricity and drying space. I do it every 8 weeks on the focus day and/or in between if they've had a spill on them.

I do a few thing weekly instead of on the focus day and vice versa because I think it depends on how dirty different parts of your house get.

Oh and I don't make beds, that's just a waste of time to me.

Littlechocola · 12/02/2019 21:53

Mines corded too. It replaced our dyson which I always hated.

londonloves · 12/02/2019 22:04

@NinaMarieP good point re living room throws. Done mine today and they definitely won't need to be done again next week.

Littlechocola · 13/02/2019 10:39

Bedroom done after avoiding it yet again!
Hallway and stairs done.
I’ll finish level 1 after my pre night shift nap.

Re throws-mine get done weekly because the children and dog are dirty beasts.

londonloves · 13/02/2019 10:57

Anyone got any tips on cleaning filter jugs? How often and best way etc.
