My living room door is stuck shut!

Sorry didn't know where to post this! I've taken the handle off and it still won't open! Fortunately I've got an alternative door but I'm hoping to move soon and I don't need more things to sort out!

Sorry I'm having a difficult week and this is just yet another thing! Any one know any ways I could get it open?

Can you shoulder barge it?

Solasum · 11/12/2018 22:14

Turn the heating off and hope it contracts?

WD40 sprayed into 'bits' - handle back on and try again?

Is the door swollen, maybe try a dehumidifier nearby. It is worth checking the hinges to see if the need to be oiled/loose screws/missing screws.

This happened to me with a bathroom door. I took the whole doorhandles off, by unscrewing and then prising the handle off with the claw end of a hammer. That left just a hole and the handle was still on the other side. I shone the light from my phone into the hole. There were lots of little loose bits of metal in the mechanism, which I picked out with tweezers. Then I used a long screwdriver to click the door open. Hard to explain, but I put it in, moved it around until it pushed against something and then turned as if I was unlocking a door. It opened. Took an hour, but it worked. Good luck with your door.

Yeah we have tried brute force. It's still stuck! It's got a weighted door closer on it as well so I can't take the hinges off i don't think!

Do you think the problem is that the door is stuck (ie door too big for frame) or that the door is somehow locked (an extra, hidden part to the door handle)?

Lovely man came round from the council and fixed it. Took a good twenty minutes to actually open it. The handle mechanism had broken so it wasn't opening as it should and was keeping the door 'locked

It's all fixed now and door handle has been fully replaced but thank you to all who suggested ideas!
