The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

Thank you for this thread!!! I hadn’t heard of TOMM but it’s just what I need. I especially liked the Spotify soundtracks to tidy along to

Littlechocola · 04/09/2018 18:53

HalloumiGus I have a few days off so trying to fit the boot camp in to three days. I’m hoping that after that I can keep on top of it by doing the daily tasks which although I think I’ll struggle with should mean I’ll get days off where I’m not playing catch up (or living in a pit).
I managed the front room, hallway/landing and bathroom so rewarding myself with wine!
I downloaded Wunderlist (which I’m not sure if I like) and have put tasks on there. I like lists and I especially like ticking things off of lists!

Lurkacus · 04/09/2018 19:12

Day two, level one jobs all done. But more of a boot camp focus on mine and the children's room, I'll do a little extra in them both tomorrow so next week they'll be ready to do the normal 30 mins. This is soooo good for my mental health. I feel in control. Hall, stairs and landing tomorrow.

lavenderlove · 04/09/2018 19:48

Thank you for this thread, I've just looked up TOMM and found her Instagram and it's great! Going to start doing this from tomorrow Smile

Ollivander84 · 04/09/2018 21:19

Day 2 - managed to hoover bedroom and hallway, and do main bathroom

Tomorrow is a "weekend" day for me so nothing to do

Thursday will be kitchen so need to post when I've done it!

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 04/09/2018 21:33

Oh my days, just spotted this thread being commented on by Gem on the Facebook page Blush dead chuffed Grin

So that's day 2 complete for me! Even managed to mop kitchen floor and wipe down the wooden floor in hall way too. All done and dusted in an hour.

So hallway is already 'done' therefore I am a day ahead of myself already (this never ever happens). I may do the bedrooms tomorrow (swapped for kitchen today) or I might just do the level 1 as an old knee injury is giving me some aggro today - will see how I get on after a night on ibruprofen and sleep!

Loving this thread and catching up on how everyone is getting on.

My house feels so calm right now Smile

littlechoc if you can fit the boot camp into 3 days then brilliant! Would be wonderful to get it done so quickly, I will be cheering you on!

I spent about 2 hours cleaning the kitchen and bedroom boot camp style. I need another evening to tackle the bedroom units which are heaped with clothes and crap. I am a terrible hoarder and find it hard to let go of things if they still have life in them. Going to try and sell a few bits on eBay to pay for a Dyson cordless vacuum.

Rachie1986 · 04/09/2018 21:51

Right, I'm in.
House not horrendous currently (for once, it's certainly not great but take the wins!) so starting with the regular not the bootcamp.

Should I start tomorrow or next week? Hmmm..

27weeks pregnant so not sure how it'll go when baby arrives. Oldest is starting school though so I may have a few mins around work to get each day done *she says hopefully..

Peachypips · 04/09/2018 21:55

I've been doing this! Vv glad to find a thread on it.

OlennasWimple · 04/09/2018 22:01

Oh, I'm in... I keep meaning to start something like this but not quite getting to it....

And I agree re bullet journaling OP - I've ditched the pretty pens and drawing boxes on naice paper in favour of a daily to do list in a regular diary (though I do use the symbols for jobs, as I find them helpful)

2slicesoftoast · 04/09/2018 22:15

I am my "future friend"! Just had a wander round and spent 10 minutes putting stuff away. House is tidy, packed lunches made, everything is where it needs to be to make tomorrow easier :-)
My house is not perfect, and I can't manage 30 minutes a day (more like 15!) but it is much cleaner than it was 6 months ago.

Littlechocola · 04/09/2018 22:24

Hoarding is my family’s down fall! Apart from dd we are all as bad as each other.

Bobbiepin · 04/09/2018 22:57

@mrsm42s no idea. My DH is more of a do fuck all and then complain that I've blocked the Hoover because it's been that long since we used it properly that I've filled it in a couple of days and didn't realise. He's not used it once since we moved almost 2 years ago but still felt the need to tell me to look after it because it's expensive Hmm

bananaberyl · 04/09/2018 23:22

I'm in! Been doing this on and off for a few weeks but back to school tomorrow and hoping that my house will be spotless and organised by half term!

Ollivander84 · 04/09/2018 23:22

Mine is definitely going to be a strange routine - level 1 isn't really applicable for me as I live alone so I only need to hoover once a week generally and no need for laundry once a day!
But I'll post anyway Smile I have two jobs, spinal surgery a year ago and no time so I want to see if this helps

Iwantaunicorn · 04/09/2018 23:32

So. I read the Bootcamp, got myself nicely riled up, and got on it. Thought to myself I’ll start in the babies room, that’s nice and small, it’ll be easy. I was wrong, it’s taken most of the bloody day! On the plus side, I’ve finally sorted out their tiny baby and 0-1 stuff that’s been hanging around for 6 months now, have got 3 bags of stuff to sell, 8 bags for the charity shop, and I’ve neatly hung up all their current clothes. I’m feeling really rather proud of myself, but there’s no way I’m going to get this little house of mine done in a week with my DTs around!

Scrumptiousbears · 04/09/2018 23:40

I'd love to had a go. Please tell me it's doable on a 10 working day.

pastaandpestoagain · 04/09/2018 23:54

I was doing really well until I managed to lock myself out of the bloody house for hours! Ahh well there is always tomorrow.

herecomesthsun · 05/09/2018 06:18

we might benefit from this!

HalloumiGus · 05/09/2018 07:32

It was really nice waking up to a really clean bedroom and nice clean bed linen! I was inspired to do a quick bathroom tidy. Plan for tonight: start our meal plan, do the hall and either the en suite or a bedroom.

Skyejuly · 05/09/2018 07:37

Loved clean sheets. Already my daily bathroom cleans are taking less time as not too dirty! Yey! Hall and stairs today.....

mrsoutnumbered · 05/09/2018 07:50

Are you all doing your bathrooms daily? What exactly do you do?

I usually give the sinks a wipe down and the toilets a clean every day, but do nothing to the floors, bath tubs or shower screens. I feel that doing that every day is excessive. Instead I give the bathrooms a proper scrub once a week on a Wednesday.

AdventuresRUs · 05/09/2018 07:51

If you wipe everyday do you use a clean cloth or just leave it in the corner with the spray.... I need basic 101!!

AdventuresRUs · 05/09/2018 07:52

And cleaning toilet each day - do you mean swish the bowl out with cleaner or literally wiping the whole thing all outside the bowl too ...?

Steala · 05/09/2018 08:00

My bedroom is looking ok. The children's aren't yet but Rime wasn't built in a day.

I think the key for those of us who are out of the house at work or have small children demanding our constant attention, is to split the 30 minutes. Set a timer. 2 minutes here, 5 minutes there. Because it's focused on one room each day, it will cumulatively make a difference.
