September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Morning! I'm feeling a ton better today (I no longer wish to curl up and expire), mostly just sniffly and headchey now. DP was a star last night, brought home honey, ginger and lemons after work and made me drinks while I was curled up in bed. He also brought Jelly Babies, so I told him that I might marry him after all Grin

Mildly annoyed last night by DD1's online maths homework...one question was just wrong (11x3 does not equal 66!) and the way that the online thing works means that if there are two ways of getting the right answer, it will still only accept one (due to number of boxes it provides for you to fill in). She did brilliantly, but it was super frustrating for her to have to work out some things twice!

I did nothing non essential yesterday, so my to do list is a little longer today...

Run
Shower
Laundry
Dinner
Dishes
Packed lunches
Do some paperwork
Mop kitchen and bathroom
Choose new fireplace for the back room
Proper clean of bathroom

Hills thank you for the recommendation! I'll steal some blackcurrants from my friend's bushes! I hope you are feeling a bit better today!

Have good days everyone!

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 08:46

One of the many reasons I don’t like the reliance on online maths programmes steg!

Which reminds me I must stop being a hypocrite and actually start the proper pencil and paper maths again. I left it a little while as we started other work, as maths is the subject that really stresses her out and I wanted to build up good habits without that angst! We always did lots of questions on paper so she’d go over the basics but having a maths book etc is going to be a new thing this term. Eeeeek. I printed out some questions the other day so we will start with those.

I’m annoyed this morning as DH has his flu jab which means I also have to go to trampolining as well as St John. Could really not do with both in one day.

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 08:46

I didn’t mean your reliance on it BTW, I meant schools’!:o But I feel a bit guilty ranting about schools as I am obviously a bit biased

stegosauruslady · 27/09/2018 09:24

Cag I really do think it is a big negative point about schools. Having home educated her from 5-12 I'm in a pretty good position to criticise! That said, I'm pleased that the homework load is pretty low for her, she has more important stuff to be doing outside of school, she'd be super sad to have to give up cadets and the marching band!

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 09:38

Ooh what cadets does she do? DD is in St. John Ambulance cadets now so is getting first aid training and will have a lot of volunteering opps when older, which makes me happy.

One of the reasons she elected to stay home for now is that she would have to give up pretty much all her clubs due to timing/travel and homework schedule. In short, she is far too busy for school 😂 it’s now got to the point though where I’m panicking about how to fit in the new structured learning. But at least we can fit bits in here and there. I’m glad your DD is settling in to school, I expect mine will want to start in a year or two and hope it goes smoothly, it does worry me a lot.

DD2 is really running me ragged now. She can toddle quite fast! Needs shoes now though, bye bye money.

I need to leave soon and don’t want to, I feel really unmotivated today

Afternoon all. Only just got back 🙄 as we stopped in town for a while. Feel very disorganised today.

But have made plans to add in human biology to Tuesday afternoons with their friend, which DS will be able to join in with too.

Need to get on with stuff as we have to leave in a couple of hours. Waaaaah I don’t wanna 😭

stegosauruslady · 27/09/2018 13:42

So.ive been bit quiet last few days.all gone pearshaped here
DS has had multiple major panic attacks and has been diagnosed anxiety disorder.school took a week decide what to do then took him back intending it short term in SENCO area.two days in apparent this isn't working as sent home 130 day one,11 day two and yesterday he was in such a state I walked him in they took one look at his sweating shaking, gasping body and told me he's no good to us take him home and get note from doc or LEA will fine his absenteeism(cheersHmm)
Doc wrote note, drop it today.they were ment ring me yesterday with plan b.no call.rang them today and they're saying 2hours a day start mon.meantime no offers any work so we are missing two weeks learning so far
He's a state and so strung out on my tail 24/7- I go loo then gather washing whilst upstairs he follows see why I'm taking so long.im exhausted, like I have a huge toddler trailing after me,constantly needing reassurance.i not mad at him,I'm just finding it very draining as "d"p has questioned my handling of him and we are at war.....dd2 has raging bad throat and isn't in great temperament not full snot and cough too.shes dropping into bed early but soldiering on to school, but irritable as also exhausted and mum's copping it all.lil zoo now got it and also sleep deprived snapping at me my life is full of bloody joy right now!!

Right need stop feeling sorry for myself.suck it up,hoik big girl pants up and crack on.....

Have go get lil zoo soon.then batten down hatches for arrival of dd2!!

Tonight's tea
Stuffed courgette(tuna, peppers and courgette innards top white sauce and cheese) green beans and rice.making a spinach, broccoli and carrot in white sauce top mash n cheese pie for dd2

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 14:28

how does UP (DP) suggest dealing with DS then?!

As for “he’s no good to us here” errr WTF that’s charming isn’t it 😡 poor DS.

I am struggling today, I wish I was more consistent, some days we get loads done but now I’m struggling to do anything at all. We just gave up on Japanese as they weren’t taking it in really and we’ve moved on to some English (DS doing his comprehension workbook and DD doing homework from the ‘lesson’ she had with a friend on Tuesday).

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 15:20

Well done on tax return etc steg that is very organised!

I am still a bit sad that Japanese didn’t really “work” today (Caglets not concentrating or taking it in) BUT oh my gosh they astounded me with English. DS just got on with his workbook pretty much on his own, and DD wrote loads for her homework completely independently. I can’t actually express what epic progress this represents. Like, I nearly cried when I read what she’d written.

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 15:20

Also zoo I am about to leave for the long boring night at St. John but I shall reply to PM later xxx

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/09/2018 16:16

Aw cagwell done cagletini English😍😍😍

Stilllivinginazoo · 27/09/2018 16:16

My phone's just made the baby a prodigyGrinI swear I wrote caglets

Cagliostro · 27/09/2018 19:57

:o total child prodigy clearly!

Well badgers and cadets done, now begins the journey home. Trying a different bus as now we’ve moved it should be quicker overall but depends on connections...

HillsBesideTheSea · 28/09/2018 07:32

Launch pad
missions
zones
babysteps
Thank fuck its friday!

Fell asleep early last night feel vaguely human - if human is a flu head cold sniffy snuffly coughing kinda thing. Gotta love how bloody germ ridden disgusting creatures kids are. Stupid back to school bugs!

Hope you all have good days - oh and if you are not posting because you don't want to do the linkies don't worry we don't work that way. Come and post even if it is to make imaginary baked good and leave hangover free alcohol in the naughty corner. Fire pit has been installed and it is toasty..... GrinGrin

Just diving in to say I am willing to do links in Oct or Nov but first , if everyone is in agreement, perhaps we should reassess things on the thread and take a quick poll as to who actually reads links nowawadays? I know they give the thread structure but I have a feeling not many posters actually consult daily links. The downside of that is that maybe we don't get as many newcomers.

What does everyone think? Does anyone have any other thoughts or ideas?

Spreadingcudweed · 28/09/2018 08:52

So, I'll start with my personal views for what they are worth. Please add yours!

Links: Tbh I don't really take any notice of links except when I'm the one that is posting them, except to note that week's zone

Generally: I post rather too much on here! That will change after I have my op and something happens with this house post Brexit (rent? sell? renovate?). My life is changing generally and so I imagine I will be posting less and less as time goes on. I have said that before mind you!

Thoughts: this thread is lovely and I would hate to lose everyone's friendships but things never stay still forever!
Mumsnet posters generally seem to be switching to organised mum method which appears better adapted to wohm/technology than Flylady? Still personally like Fly methodology though!

Anyone else?

Cagliostro · 28/09/2018 09:27

I totally get you!

I don’t read links anymore generally. Mainly this is habit from when I was in the old house as it just felt like a drop in the ocean to have “bathroom week” or whatever.

I have thought I’d like a routine now we are here but I’m more using the inspiration of Flylady to build up my own one, rather than following hers to the letter.

The main thing is though, even if I were to follow it exactly, I really wouldn’t need the links anymore - I’ve been here so long that I know when the zones, daily focus etc are.

It could certainly be cut down to say having the list of the daily focus days on the OP, and a link to the mission page since that’s the same every day, then maybe a reminder of the Zone each week. And perhaps baby steps each day for newbies?

Cagliostro · 28/09/2018 09:28

But no, no matter what I’m doing in terms of Flying, I’ll never give up this thread! :)

stegosauruslady · 28/09/2018 09:50

cag She goes to Sea Cadets...she likes all of the sailing in the summer!

Re: the thread. I often look at the flight plan to give me some ideas for more jobs if I have more time, the rest I don't look at, but can see the value of the babysteps being posted.

Today is a shopping day...

Buy new bras
Buy new fire
Laundry (my bed!)
Shopping for the weekend
Chill with DP (no kids until Monday evening, expect that we are taking them to the fireworks competition on Saturday night!)

Spreadingcudweed · 28/09/2018 12:34

Meant to say, sorry if I don't get back on here until tomorrow night btw, Internet connection getting slower and slower!

Spreadingcudweed · 28/09/2018 12:36

Oh yes, on a different note, what was Helen thinking ?

Spreadingcudweed · 28/09/2018 12:37

Gah, sorry, wrong thread! (Archers!)
