September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Oh poor love. It is scary. That what I had my heart monitored for.

Well awake but back in bed as it is my day off. Trust me to wake up now. Slept very well must have been the alcohol.

Plan to do some housework today. Maybe go somewhere this afternoon. Need to plan tomorrow's lessons as lost my planning time last week to colleague.

HillsBesideTheSea · 19/09/2018 07:59

Bless him zoo.

Launch pad
Antiprocrastination day
Missions
Zone
Babystep read some testimonials. Or don't Skippable if you wish.

Urgh is a good word for today. ds to school. Car to garage. Crap ton of stuff to do in the house. Dentist. And I should really be working from home to get a project done. Yet all I want to do is crawl back into bed and sleep. And of course if the weather brightens up I still have that garden based stuff that I need to do more of.

Just realised we in boudoir
be on the balls not my speciality!!

Spreadingcudweed · 19/09/2018 08:24

Morning all! Going to try reduce my time on Mumsnet for a bit in the interests of aforementioned "to do" list so just going to say "hi" and "bye" and flap my wings at everyone! Hope all poorlies recover soon! Happy Flying one and all!

stegosauruslady · 19/09/2018 08:28

Morning! DP overslept this morning and I managed to sleep past 5am, then doze until DP leapt out of bed declaring that he was going to be late! So I'm feeling a lot better today!

Working (I'm a tutor *bowerbird!) today, then DP is out this evening at his Japanese class and band practice so just me and the DDs for dinner. Should be a pretty relaxed day...

To do

Shower and swipe bathroom
Laundry
15 mins bedroom tidy
Make packed lunches
Dishes
Work
Get the DDs to finish tidying their rooms
Get the DDs to put their laundry away

Cagliostro · 19/09/2018 09:10

Morning all!

Got a hideously scratchy throat this morning but it usually goes away during the day 🤔 so hopefully it will.

We aren’t doing terribly well at getting up on time ATM. Alarm still set for 7.45 (sometimes DD wakes earlier) but DS is often still asleep. I am too but I get woken by baby several times so I think that’s ok 😂 as long as DH makes sure they get dressed and ready by 8.30 and then supervises their work. They do the iPad stuff first although I need to come up with some paper based stuff that the other person can do at the same time (then swap).

Definitely need to start tweaking the evening routine (what routine?!) by doing things like setting an alarm for DD’s tablet and persevering with bath/story/feed in bedroom for Cagletini rather than taking her back downstairs (I think she doesn’t sleep as too much else going on).

This also sounds a bit weird but I need to make showers more part of the routine. They are still very much “a thing” IYSWIM as we didn’t have a working one in the old house. So it feels like a big deal and we fit one in at random times, but I’d like it to be get up, jump straight in shower, dress and go downstairs for breakfast. Does that make sense?! I never had a shower in my childhood home either so this is quite a new thing being able to have one rather than having to carve out time for a bath. I then need to sort the same thing for the Caglets as they are only just getting used to having showers at all.

I need to get up, I’m hungry! And then try and fit a bit of work in before we leave at 10 for the art class. Rain is awful. 😡

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2018 09:18

No rain here, bloody windy tho(breezy trousers weather as zoolets call it😂)
Cag totally get you on the showers thing.ours just been fixed and it's not a habit, baths an effort so yep.still not got good "routines" running on that(as kid bath once. Week in my childhood home,no one chivvy brush teeth so self carehas been a challenge for me to build as a habit)

Tada
Drop lil zoo
Grab milk and bread(how did we burn thru a 4pint milk since yesterday when I don't drink any,and two loaves of bread?!Confused)
Didn't get blown away!!Grin

To do
A lot!!
Bbl

Bowerbird5 · 19/09/2018 11:27

Glad it is the boudoir today as mine needs cleaning. Off to a slow start after getting up in dressing gown( yes fly lady it is a mistake you are right) I had mug of tea and promptly dozed off. DH had put heater on so I blame that and very cosy dressing gown. Had some scrambled egg and have done a few things downstairs.

Ta da
Moped floor near door as chicken escaped and as DH was speaking about weather she launched herself at cats bowl and knocked water everywhere.
Loaded dishwasher , rounding up stray mugs😠
Made breakfast
One load in WM

To Do

Put away any clothes in bedroom.
Collect washing.
Dust
Rearrange any crap lying about and try to find home for it.
Dust lights.
Consider going under bed. Might need DH help here. Change bedding.
Vacuum.

Do 30 minutes in craft room.
Hall!😱

Bowerbird5 · 19/09/2018 11:33

Waves to everyone.

Steg and Cags 😃 Mine would be school leavers and mature students for childcare course.

Cags one of mine babbled then stopped altogether then at 21/2 spoke in long sentences using big words no baby talk. DD first word was hello as we had had so many sibling friends popping in and out.

For the very first time I have nothing to do on anti procrastination day. I have ordered all things for kitchen and nothing else to do bar job which I can't do yet as I have appointment next week for tour.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2018 11:54

I am quite shocked/excited..
I told you about 6weeks ago I had moth grubs in my cupboards.clesned and next day were more moths, turned out little buggers were getting behind cupboard...anyhoo discovered bleaching cupboard daily fumes knocked them out and were appearing dead in cupboard.ive not had one for a week.i think we are moth free in that cupboard!woohoo!!finally I can risk cereal boxes back in there without worrying they are fornicating in my special k boxes!!Grin
Wiped out the bleach and waiting for it to air dry

Tada
Hung35 pairs knickers up to dry(yes the girls ones) -too windy put out so hung them on a mini hook airer and hung that up on D's curtain rail with window open a touch.they blowing jauntily in the breeze.dd2 would be mortified at prospect her undergarments in the window, but it is back of house so only select few could see them if bothered looking up

Had "the call" from D's school.we have a meet Fri with head of year manager and they inviting SENCO along with idea they might put D's in classroom used by students under stress- long-term anxiety, others have parents I'll/in hospital etc but it's a quiet room he can access and branch back towards his classes start ones he likes best and retreat there if stressed.in theory sounds perfect but until we talk it all thru I will reserve some judgement has they have form for talk the talk but not walking the walk!!

Moved recycling into new bin(had boxes, now just one bin)filled it already, not empty a fortnight

To do
More washing
Reload " mothless" cupboard
Read with D's
Dinner tonight-beef goulash, new potatoes and roasted broccoli and squash
Black cherry jelly(must defrost black cherries to go in it when get off phone!)

Glad near lunchtime I'm bloody starving today.inotuced stray avocado left in fridge so I am taking control of the last bagel and can tuna😋😋😋😋😋

Bowerbird5 · 19/09/2018 12:58

great news re moths. I have had some in the past but mostly upstairs. Hang cedar wood etc in wardrobes ,drawers.

Kitchen everything, well as much as possible in Tupperware, glass canisters.

Very windy here. Radio going on and off, wagon lost its trailer on M6 near here. Off to have a look at Police site. Trees down now. Trains suspended.

Half way through bedroom. Found a pen has leaked so more work to clean that up.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2018 13:46

Urgh at the penbower if it's biro and staining leather spray hairspray on it and should come off

Been decluttering bags in my room.as always that doesn't seem to look any better, but onwards and upwards as it MUST look better at some point?right?(someone tell me it does)

foxessocks · 19/09/2018 14:04

hello, just catching up a little!

zoo I'll let you know if I ever find out, I think my house looks a bit better from all the mad decluttering recently but to be honest we do still seem to have an awful lot of STUFF.

Ta da
dishwasher on
washing on
washing folded and put away
quick general tidy
made banana and coconut muffins
dusted bedroom furniture and cobwebs, photos etc
spent 15 minutes decluttering under the bed storage, chucked a few terrible old photos out and some random birthday cards.

anti procrastination - I am about to phone and make ds two year check appointment.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2018 14:15

foxes can I have banana and coconut muffin recipe-ds two favourite cake flavours and haven't thought put together

Is it today DD does first full day at big school?

Well first lot pants dried beautifully flapping in the window, second lot now taken their place😂😂😂😂

stegosauruslady · 19/09/2018 14:18

bower sounds fun! I tutor teens who have ASD (mostly, a couple have other SEN) and are on reduced timetables at school.

List is mainly done now, one last thing before I start the school run/homework/dinner/packed lunches part of the day.

I bought a new insulated mug t'other day, carrying my cuppa around the house with me is oddly motivating!

foxessocks · 19/09/2018 14:34

Yep zoo first full day today so hope she's managed ok!! And yes the recipe is a Sainsbury's one www.sainsburysmagazine.co.uk/recipes/easter/banana-and-coconut-muffins here is the link. First time I've made them - had some over ripe bananas and didn't want to do banana bread like I always do!

MsForestier · 19/09/2018 14:52

I used to work with uni students who had ASD. Helped to make sure they had tech and other supports in place.

Cagliostro · 19/09/2018 15:46

Sounds positive zoo I hope they follow up on these ideas.

Art class was brilliant. Parents don’t need to stay (so won’t in future - lots of potential for DH and I to have a ‘breakfast date’ - albeit with the baby - or even for the Caglets to walk themselves there, as it’s only a little way past the Asda they go to regularly) but we did have to for a little while for registration etc and it was really lovely. They are both going to do a different level of Arts Award and we are probably going to put them forward for Crest Award too (science) although that is run differently and we’d have to do more of it at home. But a few friends have signed up at the same time so we can team up. Really happy as we’ve known about these awards for a few years but the classes make it more accessible and the Caglets are finally ready to tackle something like this. Yay!

Pretty much all my tutoring pupils have ASD, I am obviously not in any way qualified (hence I’m cheap! Still earns more per hour than my library role ever did though) so it’s very informal. I have lots of experience teaching piano as I worked in a music school, but maths is a new venture a couple of years ago, and it’s very play based. By definition most of the pupils I have struggled in school so I do things differently and work around them. It’s lovely getting recommendations as I “get” the kids IYSWIM, feels like high praise indeed :) for example one pupil had barely picked up a pen for 3 years due to school trauma... until a few lessons in with me when he happily grabbed the whiteboard and wrote! ❤️ I am really nervous about starting up again as my head just feels full of baby stuff. It’s not a pressured role at all because it really is just informal but I’m worried I won’t be good at it anymore!

MsForestier · 19/09/2018 16:14

Wow Cag you seem just right for that role.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/09/2018 16:20

cag tailor made tutoring❤️
Foxes thank you! Glad she had a good first full day.is she tired?mine were wrecked first couple weeks and grumpy when I had missed them and wanted to play!!

Tada
Walked over to do tors and put in script for repeats lil zoo meds prior to pick up(making it a 90 Min walk)D's struggled having palpitation on way home from school.worsened on return so got colouring book out again

foxessocks · 19/09/2018 16:33

She is quite grumpy yes zoo so I think she is tired. And hungry too! Unfortunately we are all grumpy this afternoon which isn't ideal!!

Bowerbird5 · 19/09/2018 18:43

I work with Primary. We have had quite a few on the spectrum over the years. I have one now in the infants gorgeous little boy. He enjoyed sitting next to me yesterday. I had him last year so he probably feels comfortable with me.
Years ago I did two certificates in Autism and accidently went for an update. The course name changed but it was the same. School had paid so I stayed for the day and used it as a refresher😃
Nearly completed room but coughing too much with dust so didn't do under the bed. Clothes all away bar the ironing pile. Going to change sheets tomorrow as weather awful. Gales dropped a bit now but showers so no point washing them.
Banana and coconut muffins sound yummy.

Cagliostro · 19/09/2018 22:33

Aw thanks guys.

I think this time of year, back to school etc seems to be tough on everyone. And the nights drawing in, I hate it.

I started prepping for the next stage of Japanese stuff. And read up a bit about the science and art awards. And tried to find a new gym class as DD wants to switch (she is not one to give up clubs willingly so if she asks I do take it seriously - plus it could work out better as we could then switch tae kwon do to the nearer location (same awesome teacher). Did admin for trampolining and sports club.

Bedtime. Still feel sick 🙄😡🤢

Bowerbird5 · 19/09/2018 22:57

Sorry to hear that Cags.
Art class sounds great. I am supposed to be going to one but it was too tight with GP visit. Next week hopefully.

Very tired today and didn't get last two jobs done as coughing a lot. Hoping DH might help me. It is no wonder house is messy. He has been on computer most of today. He did do the recycling and cooked the tea. Bedroom looks a bit better. Still some clothes out but not mine!
