September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Development check done. All good just a tiny bit “meh” about speech. She’s very “chatty” just not actual words. I got the bus there and back so not as much walking, it is walkable but I was very aware that I also have to walk down to tap and back uphill later as well, when I haven’t actually left the house since we came home on Wednesday evening 😳😳😳

I am really tired and achy 🙄

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/09/2018 16:44

cag ime kids with older siblings either talk loads pick it up or chatter but no words as can't get word in edgewayseithers fine as they soon start up once realise can speed up getting what's wantedGrin

SC his bloodworks back fri.testing for aneamia and thyroid.school finally got back to me.id been given wrong teacher to speak to😒they go have a think about what can offer as support and ring me to chat/arrange meet tom,but it's not a quick solution as she's telling attendance team won't be in this week....

stegosauruslady · 18/09/2018 17:21

I have now been awake for more than 12 hours...feeling you on the avoiding walking Cag I just had to do the giant hill on the way back from dropping DDs 2 and 3 at circus skills class. I didn't go into town to trade in some games for DP as a result!

All of my list is complete however, which is pleasing. DP will be home soon and is ill so my evening will consist of being nice to him while playing video games/knitting depending on exactly how tired I get.

spreading Where do those six hours even go?! This is the first year that all of mine have been in school (new baby due in January, because I'm a glutton for punishment apparently!) and I have no idea how they go so quickly.

I'm going to organise some fun stuff this evening/tomorrow too, feels as though its been ages since I saw some of my friends!

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 17:38

Congrats steg. 👶

Slowly pulling the house together. Husband and I both home sick yesterday but child on the mend. Just pottering really.

Greymalkin · 18/09/2018 17:55

Hello fledglings. I forget how quick this thread moves sometimes, so I'm just going to join in again at the end.

DS had an apocalyptic meltdown this morning as he didn't want to put his uniform on or go to school. Poor DH is at the end of his tether and struggling to cope with DS's challenging behaviours, he left for work in tears.

I had a meeting at school to review with teachers how DS is getting on this term and they were so supportive and understanding. They are wondering whether DS has Pathological Demand Avoidance as he seems to tick a lot of the boxes. We are waiting for an appointment with the paediatrician to see whether DS has ASD or something else too.

Managed a bit of flying in the kitchen, I can at least see the work tops now...

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 18:07

Sorry I missed you off wave list earlier MsForestier brain all over the place today! Hope you and your dh feel much better soon!

And your dh too Steg ! And hope you get a decent night's sleep tonight!

Must admit I felt very liberated year two of secondary when dd started going to school and back on the metro by herself (would have been year one had it not been for terrorism threat). She is an only so v easy but even so nearly 10 years of back and forth is very tying! Makes huge difference to productivity not to have to do it. (Have a friend with lots of dc with wide range of ages who has been doing school run for 20 years and will be doing it for at least 6 more ... .)

Hope test results on Fri for ds come back ok Zoo and school sets up some support before too much more time passes.

Cag that has reminded me that dd was very chatty for ages without actually speaking! It was a lovely burble actually! Wish I had recorded it!! She only said one word at one year old and that was "bang"! (word from her favourite children's book!) Grin

Funnily enough, dd made me laugh today over language (being educated in other langs, she sometimes gets English vocab slightly wrong) and said she was suffering from "nose constipation" Grin Grin She'd never heard of the word "stuffy"! Thankfully she is feeling less fluey now and just has a cough and is a bit bunged up. Her appetite has returned thank heavens!

Ta da:
-morning routine: dd sandwiches, empty dw, s&s, wipe down kitchen, wms on
-walked furry
-gynae appt
-supermarket on way home
-made fish cakes
-hung up washing and fed wms again
-French study
-did a bit admin towards residency
-on-line banking
-dining room table hot spots (didn't finish - gave up)
-as my car is now almost permanently at fermette, dd re-introduced me to public transport system here and all the changes that have happened since I last travelled regularly on bus/tram/tube especially ticketing technology Smile Felt like a right old crumpster. Grin
-filled in mahoosive medical form - pages and pages - for dd for school. The amount of information and the intrusive examination that follows afterwards is rather mind-blowing for a Brit! A very different idea of the state and its function! They almost wanted info on great grandmother's bunions (well not really but you get the idea ...). Took an hour and a half Shock

Now tidying up and setting table for supper etc. Not enough achieved today!! (again)!! Aarggh!! But too tired to be more productive! So frustrating!

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 18:09

Oh that sounds very tough indeed Grey Flowers Brew Cake Hope you get some answers/support soon.

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 18:09

No stress SC! I'm lying low so as not to give it to anyone who hasn't succumbed to its charms already. Glad your doctor's appt went well and I'm sure you'll get your list ticked off in time. You've a lot on.

MsForestier · 18/09/2018 18:12

Right 'nose constipation' is entering the Forestier family lexicon. It's precisely what we've had.

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 18:13

Thanks MrsF I have a lot more time on here than many with only having one child and a very very pt job. I just need to get my head around it all! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 18:14

Grin Grin

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/09/2018 18:49

It was soo cold earlier I lit the fire. Well it was 17C but man does that feel cold after the summer we had. Also not feeling great. Nice weather turned up but not early enough to do something about it. Meeting at school later and then have to pop out to the shop for items for tea because I didn't want to leave the house earlier and tbh I still don't want to leave the house. Blush Is it bed time yet?

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/09/2018 19:10

Tada
School run

Supervise homework
Cook dinner

Dish up dinner for little ones

Arf at nose constipation SC
GreyFlowers
Hills hope you get an early bedtime and eat even if just bowl cheese/ice-cream etc

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 19:27

Actually crying at nose constipation 😂😂😂 that’s adorable

Pmi. One ko. O inimitable

^ I’m leaving the above in. I was trying to type while feeding baby but she moved and stood on the iPad. That’s what autocorrect made of it.

I’m not too worried really. She is really social and does things like nod along any time music plays and has “conversations” and plenty of things like pointing. In any case I’m not sure other than extreme outliers that there is really much to go on with these reviews - looking at the milestones of myself, Caglets and friends, all with autism, there is a huge range of early/average/delayed anyway. So I’m a bit Meh about it and thinking what will be will be and I’d be amazed if she didn’t end up on the spectrum somewhere purely due to her heritage on both sides. (Side note - if anyone says “we are all on the spectrum” I will flounce 😜😂)

ANYWAY. I am waffling because I have really achy legs and because I sat down rather than getting on with dinner (I was going to but Cagletini needed feeding/comforting due to smooshing her face on the chair leg 🙄) I am finding it very hard to get up again 😭😭😭

Tap was good, nice to walk there and back although the hill was hard pushing the buggy! Going to heat up the dinner now, it’s the sausage stew I made a couple of weeks back but the different brand sausages fell apart a bit too much. But got a few in the freezer so will use them up anyway. And stick to Heck brand in future when on offer (am limited due to gluten).

Really must go and I’ll probably waffle more later.

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 19:50

"One k o inimitable" is genius Cag! Grin Grin

Fwiw I think you are totally right not to be worried, as you say, developmental range is huge, and Cagletini can't fail to thrive in highly stimulating/enriching home ed environment you are providing. Interestingly, all the bi- and tri- lingual DC here are late developing language wise because (cognitively speaking!) they are taking it all in before they can let it all out so wouldn't be too surprised if something similar going on with Cagletini!

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 20:10

That’s really interesting sc especially as bilingualism is actually so good for children I hear. Goes to show it’s not always the “when” that really matters!

I mean clearly she’s a poetic genius though, or at least her foot is. I don’t think I’ve ever used the word inimitable myself 😂

Spreadingcudweed · 18/09/2018 21:08

Nor me Cag! Grin. Extremely precocious of her! Smile

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 22:14

😂

Right the baby is in bed and I actually read to the Caglets tonight. We managed the whole of lion witch wardrobe while DD was on her melatonin break last month and then totally failed to continue. But I was talking about sleep to the development check lady, sleep has always been the thing I struggled to sort with my babies (although ironically DD probably had the best routine of them all, when she was tiny) and I basically wasn’t even bothering, but she suggested just doing the last feed upstairs instead. So we did that, after a bath, and the others snuggled up while I read, so that was nice.

Must dash downstairs and clear up a bit though as I came straight up to bathe the messy tomatoey baby and there is food everywhere, and plates etc.

Bowerbird5 · 18/09/2018 22:26

Sc Because I am a lazy bitch! I spent the evening watching telly and cut out hundreds of ducks ( don't ask)and no one else bothered either. I put some away last night. Put some on this morning and will sort the small pile left tomorrow.

Been to GP who laughed at my husky voice and commented on "back with the snotty kids then". I so love him! We have such straight forward and sometimes in depth chats. I can be quite blunt too. My last GP there I wasn't as blunt but she was lovely and very thorough.

I'm going to the premises of a new prospective job next week.Very late in the day to change career. It is a position as a tutor. Scary but my tutor years ago thought I might be good at it. 25 years later it might be an option😳😁

Yes,I had lunch. Quick sandwich and quarter a cup of tea then water. No am break again. Ten minutes for lunch. Day off tomorrow. Be back

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 22:30

Right the worst of it is cleared or at least plates moved to kitchen with as little clattering as possible! Stuff like hoovering will have to wait and I really need to put a wash on.

I didn’t get round to making lentil stew, DH roasted a chicken this morning which we had some of for lunch but I was just too tired to cook. I even dozed on the sofa a bit.

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 22:34

Ooh exciting bower. I love tutoring although it is very informal what I do. Do your wrists hurt after cutting out all the ducks? Genuine question!

We are trying an art thing tomorrow. Also have some thinking and planning to get on with. Need to actually get a time to pin down DH (not literally 😳🤪) and discuss it with him as it ends up being me doing most of the decision making otherwise.

Going to try and sleep now.

HillsBesideTheSea · 18/09/2018 22:40

zoo are you lurking in my house or something?! Shock bowl of ice cream was indeed eaten for tea Blush I have got to sleep will linkie tomo. sorry. night

Bowerbird5 · 18/09/2018 22:55

Was running out of charge2% left!

So plugged in now.
Just climbed into bed. DH treated us to a steak tonight as DDVegan Has gone to meet a friend and staying with Dboyfriend tonight. Had to have some red wine with the steak and for celebrating the inventiveness of the Bake Off contestants ...some gin. Some from Alnwick rhubarb and strawberry and a blackberry from Scotland with two chocolates. Mmmm. DH hadn't made a pudding so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! All those luscious roulades mmm. Then the Show stoppers!
So no flying tonight but DH did wash the kitchen floor while I was out. He said it was stinking. I washed it last week so I think this was an exaggeration. The cat had spilt some food and pooped in her litter tray this morning but as I was running late and DD was home(cat owner) I didn't bother to sort it.
Right off to have a nosy around Mumsnet. Those poorly hope you get better soon and gin is the answer.

Bowerbird5 · 18/09/2018 23:01

Ooh cross posts some people ARE still about.

Yes they did Cags but since it was getting me out of clearing the plates and cleaning the kitchen I persevered. It saves the class teacher too and she has a baby/ toddler. I will finish them tomorrow as alcohol and cutting ducks doesn't work out. I cut the leg off one and I was completely sober. I just sniped a bit far.oops!

I hope no one from a call centre rings me early or I might give them a bit of a mouthful as I am planning a lie in. Watch me wake at 6:30am!

Cagliostro · 18/09/2018 23:22

So the duck was legless even if you weren’t 🤪

Why does the baby sometimes wake a mere hour after being put in bed ffs.
