September fledgling roll call: Ready, Set, FLY....

HillsBesideTheSea · 01/09/2018 08:25

Yes this is the bonkers back to school thread. We welcome you to jump aboard for the ride. We are following the Fly lady system for taming the chaos (can't have anyone over syndrome). We are at various levels and there is NO obligation to follow it to the letter (we've installed a bar in the naughty corner for hanging out and relaxing when needed)

4 levels for flying:
Baby steps - good for finding a routine in the tasks and getting over the perfection crippling effect
Baby steps and missions - yep basic routine and more in depth tasks
Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning - can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level
Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) lets be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

So ground rules, yes ground rules it is September:

  1. Newbies - we are a long running but friendly bunch. We try not to seem clicky but it doesn't always come across as some of us have known each other on here for a long time, just join the chatter and you'll soon be a fledgling
  2. There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's.

Linkies will be posted daily and will appear shortly. Until then, jump on board, enjoy the ride and there are still hammocks, sand, comfy seats, cushions, blankies and a full English on the naughty corner bar it is a Saturday morning, breakfast is earnt

Pain is never good Hills and absolutely exhausting to deal with IME.

I missed Grey yesterday good to have you back.

Apparently today was not the day to make a difference to the house Hmm Possibly tomorrow? Did do some minor bits of laundry and getting DD's stuff ready for after-school classes. She's good at packing her bag the night before and I get her uniform ready.

Going to wash the lunch boxes now, and pay a bill online.

I need to see my GP which is always tricky at the best of times, but I seem to have a water or kidney infection. And DH is away, so if I can get DD off to school this morning I have the day very close to a toilet to sort it out as DH is not due back until tomorrow.

Bowerbird5 · 11/09/2018 06:36

Meet0nTheIedge · 11/09/2018 07:04

Sorry so many are in pain this morning. Glad Lil Zoo hot back to sleep Zoo.

Fingers crossec youcan get a Drs appt Sass, good luck with your meeting Bower. Hills - hope your flare is short lived, it must be hugely frustrating.

I felt as thougb I was starting a cold yesterday and sure enough woke at 2am with an agonising sore throat, which has calmed down a bit now but I just tried to speak to DS and could only manage a husky whisper. Joy!

I have been a bit unfaithful to Flylady and following the Organised Mum blog for a werk or so. Similar in a way but you focus on a different room each day for half an hour. Haven't actually started following it at the moment but it did inspire me to clean the inside of all the downstairs windows yesterday.

Meet0nTheIedge · 11/09/2018 07:13

Nearly forgot Cag, hope you enjoy your stay in Winchester, its a lovely city, we go there quite often. The science centre is great, I went there with one of my DC's class in year 5. We like pottering around the river and cathedral, there are lots of nice cafes, the City Mill is interesting too (although ny DCs say it's boring).

Cagliostro · 11/09/2018 07:37

Thanks, it does seem lovely! I am still in epic pain though and have been awake since 4.30. Science centre today. Not sure if DSD will even be joining us as she’s full of cold :(

We may do the mill tomorrow if time!

Greymalkin · 11/09/2018 07:58

Morning all, thanks for the welcome back.

Sympathies to those in discomfort, hope you're better soon.

I went to a trampoline based fitness class last night to help boost my mood and help with weight loss. It was awesome but I am a wreck this morning!

stegosauruslady · 11/09/2018 08:16

Good morning...kinda...

I've also been awake since 5am, as DP woke me wiggling his ankles (I have no idea), then the unborn decided to kick merry hell out of me until I went for a wee!

Then we had the fun of DD1 (who has just started school for the first time, used to be Home ed) being a pain and on a go slow this morning. She is actually loving school and we had a phone call yesterday complimenting her on her behaviour, attainment and general attitude, its just the early mornings that she hates!

I did my whole to do list yesterday!

To dos for today...

hide from the rain
Swish and swipe
Laundry
Buy printer ink
Make dinner during the daytime
Dishes
Plan tutoring sessions for tomorrow
Daily mission
Go to town to buy leggings for all the DDs
Drop DD2 and DD3 off at circus school

Yay for everyone being active...trampolining sounds fun Grey, even though I generally hate human company while exercising!

Spreadingcudweed · 11/09/2018 13:03

Hey all! [SC here.] Back from travels! Hope the rest of everyone's summer went ok!

Sorry to hear so many of you are under par but equally very impressed by the exercisers among you. And hello to newcomers and welcome back to returnees. And many thanks to Hills for new September thread and all the links!

I've I hope you aren't finding work/job/childcare balance too onerous. Brew

Will catch up with thread properly later but just popping in for a (by now customary) vent if I may!

As some of you know - in addition to having lovely time with dhorse - battled slugs, flies, giant spiders, wasps, rats and a rather spectacular breakdown of sewage system in wreck2 whilst dealing with a succession of visitors. Spent last three days there doing fairly hefty post-summer scrub and clear up. Nearly killed me tbh but good news is that I have found a cleaner there through personal recommendation for the future thank heavens. Really important that she is trustworthy as leaving key with her.

In the meantime, dh and dd, who were back in town earlier than me, assured me that all was under control at wreck1 and that they were tidying up and keeping on top of things etc etc.

Entered front door last night and my heart sank. There were bags of rubbish and recycling by front door in outer hall, several full suitcases in inner hall with clothes bursting out of them. We have large two dining room tables (one is for outside) and they were both inside and totally covered in papers, cables, stationery and rubbish. Other boxes of RC all over the place as were clothes and shoes. The fridge was disgusting as was the kitchen bin. Dirty plates and pans stacked beside dw. Every other horizontal surface - and I mean every - was covered in RC.

Bit my lip for a while but dh could tell I wasn't happy and we ended up having a spectacularly awful row. Not my finest moment as I know he is stretched to the limit and working hard but honestly. This is the not the first time this has happened and this is basic stuff, like putting biscuit wrappers in bin and dirty clothes in laundry basket.

Went to bed not speaking and even worse, woke up this morning to find mice have food storage in kitchen again (sob) - was assured this had been thoroughly tackled in my absence and was under control - but it looks as though they have just been left to proliferate frankly.

So instead of attending to "ordinary" mess, I have spent all morning wearing rubber gloves, with large bottle of Dettol, on my hands and knees scrubbing everywhere where mice have been, throwing out knawed pkts and loads of food and cleaning up utterly disgusting mouse droppings.

I'm fucked off tbh. (Pls excuse poor lang. but no other way to describe it.)

Welcome home my arse. Angry

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2018 14:11

Oh SCFlowers
That would've had me on the last vein throb to murdering the pair of themSad
Hope things are getting under control on vermin front ready to do battle general detritus

Tada
Drop lil zoo and speak school/teacher
Leave message for consultant
Food shop
Speak consultant upping dosage again,so school had be informed no asking go loo just dash off or there will potentially be some nasty accidents if we can get her off loo to go to school of course--...

Dentist
Two loads laundry done-towels in dryer now.first load on airer
Bag up 3binbags crap dp to dump in work large communal bin

Really should eat something before go for lil zoo.amazed she's made the day on less four hours broken sleep and pain she rated at 8 on leaving house today (8renders her bent over and want lay quietly)what a little trooper!!(that said I find out she ask go home and didn't call me there be a say off tom if no better)

Hope it's less scuzzy where everyone else is.kind humid, windy and damp here..

Cagliostro · 11/09/2018 14:18

Oh sc! Why may I ask are you doing the clean up not them 😰😡

Sitting at science centre feeding baby. It’s nice here! But I wish I’d sat in cafe instead as I want cake

Steg mornings will definitely be a struggle here if DD goes to school. She would be in y7 and she will have a bit of a walk if not a bus commute (two nearest secondaries are faith schools, they are open to all but DD wouldn’t go). I used to get the bus just after 7am so she’d still be better off than I was.

Hey grey trampoline fitness sounds awesome but hard work

foxessocks · 11/09/2018 14:43

sc Angry on your behalf. That's really not fair. I'd be very very very cross.

Today I tidied the entire house. Every single room. All because someone was coming to value the house (we aren't moving it's for the bank) and what happened? He bloody well cancelled at the last minute and can't come until next week now Angry

Oh well at least the house looks nice I suppose!

Ta da
Washing hung up
More washing on
Dishwasher on
Whole house tidied
Meal plan for next week
Online food shop for next week
Spoke to my mum re outing at the weekend
Went to the library with the dc
Popped to the shop

To do
Practice putting dd tie on ready for first official day tomorrow!
Cook dinner - fish pie
Empty dishwasher
Bring washing in as looks like rain
Hang next load up
Check calendar for rest of week
Decluttering

Ds has been asleep for 3 hours Shock obviously was too much of an early start this morning for him! I've checked on him twice and he's kicked his covers off so just his little nappy bum in the air and snoring his head off. So cute when they are asleep

Hope dd ok zoo poor thing

Spreadingcudweed · 11/09/2018 14:47

Ta very muchly Zoo [gratefully stuffs chocolate eclairs in various orifices and imbibes strong coffee]

Hope Lil Zoo tum improving x

Greymalkin · 11/09/2018 14:52

SC I'd be fecking furious if I'd come back to that!! And then I would have cried and banged about screeching like a harpy.
Agree with whoever said they should be dealing with the mess, you are wife and mum, not a skivvy!

Spreadingcudweed · 11/09/2018 14:58

x posts!

Thanks Cag and Foxes! I am fuming but the reason I am doing it is that dd has a load of hwk and dh is off travelling again now [grrr].

Amazing list Foxes but how frustrating that the valuer didn't show! Hope your dd's first day goes well tomorrow!

Hope you have a lovely break in Winchester Cag! Have fun finding Jane Austen in the Cathedral!

Spreadingcudweed · 11/09/2018 15:15

x post

Hey Grey great to "see" you! Believe me, much harpy behaviour on my part was displayed! Trampolining sounds great btw!

Spreadingcudweed · 11/09/2018 16:24

Oh and on a happier note - just for balance - should mention that DD has bought herself new school shoes and just taken herself off to nearest shopping centre to buy a text book. Both of those things I would have been doing a year ago (or would have accompanied/driven her anyway) so not all bad I suppose to be absolutely fair!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/09/2018 16:39

Tada
Collected lil zoo in pouring rain(only spit when went out so wasn't wearing waterproof coat)Hmm
Made snack(hard-boiled eggs, cherry Tom's and milk as fun and faith kids group tonight so needs to be sustaining as late tea(730ish))

Found out lil zoo had different teacher pm and was to shy to tell pain got really bad so wasn't in good place when collected her, silly bean!Sad

To do
Fold dry towels
Iron stuff off airer
Make dinner(main part on already-beef and bean stew.dd having bean stew) with pasta and saute spinach with garlic
Wash up
Clean lunchboxes
Floors could do with a sweep and wipe, but I may leave til tom as blitzing ready for workmen on Thurs plus my lack sleep has caught up and I could nod off standing up now!!
