Dirty bird has built nest and shat (extensively) on the wooden beams of my car port - how to clean (pictures)

Not many cleaning jobs defeat, but on this one I don't know where to start.

I suppose I am concerned about inhaling it when chiselling away at dried poo (boak)

Did consider hosing it down to make it wetter and then use stiff yard brush?

Any thoughts?

Bloody bird

Is it still in use, or have they finished raising the babies and it's now abandoned? If they're still in situ, I think you need to leave them be - I'm sure I remember seeing elsewhere on MN that nesting birds are protected. If they're long gone, then not sure about the cleaning products but I would recommend wearing a scarf or decorating face mask 😷 if you're worried about inhaling anything.

Its mercifully not still in use

Thank goodness! It'll probably be easier to shift when wet.

Thanks Madam

Once you've cleaned it, fix netting or chicken wire over it to stop them getting in in future.

Good plan!
