Anyone machine washed their highchair fabric without wrecking it? Sorry for the dullness!

V clever of Mamas & Papas to use an absorbent handwash only material for a high chair isn't it?! Hmm

I want to just bung it in the washing machine but worries that I'll wreck it. It's covered in the stains and grubbiness you'd expect from having a 9mo strawberry-eating creature using it several times a day.

Anyone machine-washed theirs and did it survive?

Eek I wouldn't- power wash it?

applebags · 21/08/2018 13:35

What's power washing? I'm not very domesticated beyond the basics Grin

Just cut your losses and go buy an Ikea Antilop Grin

WooYa · 21/08/2018 13:45

I wouldn't.... you could try 'Elbow Grease' spray and water?
Then chuck it in the bin and buy an IKEA Antilop Grin

Get a bucket, add a scoop of powdered laundry detergent and a scoop of vanish (or other equivalent!). Fill with warm water and stick the cover in. Leave for 6 hours, empty water and repeat. Then rinse really well and leave out in the sun for a couple of days. That should clean even the worst stains.

Power wash - like you do drives with, used it on a pushchair with success!

BlackBeltInChildWrangling · 21/08/2018 14:22

Not that particular highchair, but I use an Ecover stain removing liquid (with attached brush) beforehand, put it on a delicates wash with powder, (better than liquid or capsules for cleaning IMO), and add Dettol laundry disinfectant liquid to the fabric conditioner drawer. It's a risk though the first time, I know. Could you contact M&P Customer Service for advice and to let them know it's a problem? Their nice designs need to work in the real world of coalface parenting, don't they?!

applebags · 21/08/2018 14:42

Thanks all - I've removed the cover from the chair and as the chair is perfectly functional without the fancy padding I'm going to take a chance and machine wash it on a delicates cycle as advised by a PP.

Wish me luck - will report back with before and after photos!

We have partial success! At least I'm not worried that he's going to contract the plague or anything now...
