Trainers and football boots smelling like cat's piss.

Has anyone else come across this?

DS's trainers and football boots always seem to smell of cat piss, even after being washed. When you walk into the utility room or hallway or wherever he's left them you can smell it.

It's definitely not cat piss but that's the nearest smell I can compare it to.

Washing doesn't help and even fairly new ones seem to smell.

They are the non-leather astro trainers and football boots (mainly Adidas if that makes a difference) that all kids wear so surely someone else must have this problem?

My ds boots were the same, we just buy leather ones now, it seems to be when they get wet the smell starts, also Adidas boots here and Nike too!

This takes me back to DS (now 25) being younger! It was always a problem. I never found a solution... I used to banish the boots to the garage.

We had that problem with Nike football boots about 6 years ago. I googled it and apparently it was a widespread problem. Never managed to get rid of the smell. Can't remember if it was a specific style of Nike though.

Reassuring to hear that it's not because DS's feet smell of cat's piss then!

Leather football boots wouldn't work as DS is not the best at cleaning them after a match - at least with the man-made ones he can hose them down and I can stick them through the machine occasionally.

No that I have any practical solution to add, but I remember the first time I went ice skating as a child I couldn’t work out why the place where you got the hire skates stank of cat piss. Then I realised it was actually the old, sweaty leather skate boots (this was way before the newer plastic ones came along) 🤢.

I've been saying this for years but no one else in the family seem to notice it! Football boots smell exactly like cats piss!!

Tea bags inside the boots absorb the moisture and smell

Cat letter absorbs smells

White vinegar spray will help, or put bicarb in dry shoes.
