My limescale is goiing a bit brown around the bend. Yes i can see it. Have used citrus bleach but it just seems to turn it a bit yellow.

I dont have sarsons that i could use.

Any ideas?

Kim and Aggie suggest attacking it gently with a pumice stone (scoop all the water out first and chip away at it carefully)

I was hoping that there was something around the house that i could use. Ie is cheap.

a p-aste made with vinegar and bicarb of soda, applied and left over night.

CarGirl · 26/05/2007 08:36

is it white vinegar you should use or brown?

ProfYaffle · 26/05/2007 08:38

white vinegar. I live in a hard water area and have never managed to get any of the 'natural' cleaners to work, had to resort to Harpic in a black bottle.

Aloveheart · 26/05/2007 08:38

can of coke, denture tablets down the loo.

Aloveheart · 26/05/2007 08:39

not at the ame time lol

CarGirl · 26/05/2007 09:29

am thinking of asking a friend if I can use some of her industrial strength stuff - I get limescale at the front edge where there is a ledge - stupid design!

Trinityrhino · 26/05/2007 09:34

that harpic in a black bottle works like nothing I have ever seen before

our toilet was an absolute disgrace, worthy of being on 'How clean is your house' but after using that its lovely.

talcyoyo · 26/05/2007 09:35

another vote for Harpic

BettySpaghetti · 26/05/2007 09:35

Does the harpic in a black bottle actually get rid of it? Or does it just bleach it white so you can't see it?

Trinityrhino · 26/05/2007 09:36

we have a green toilet and I even felt the bowl afterwards because bi just didn't believe it

it deffo goes

BettySpaghetti · 26/05/2007 09:38

Excellent! Its just it took me years to realise that standard bleach doesn't actually get rid if it, it just ..well...bleaches it (sounds obvious when i put it like that )

belgo · 26/05/2007 09:39

I've recently cleaned my toilet using a pumice stone, it worked very well, far better then white vinegar which stinks the place out.

I didn't empty out the water first, just wore long waterproof gloves.

wheresthehamster · 26/05/2007 09:53

Has anyone used a steam cleaner to clean the bowl?

I ask because I woke up early this morning and watched a promo for the 'portable Shark power steamer' and was nearly lulled into thinking I couldn't go on living without one.

It showed this thin metal attachment that could shoot steam under the rim of the toilet and apparently just blast out stuff with no effort.

misdee · 26/05/2007 09:56

we use harpic in a blue bottle. mine is being done tonight,

SuGaRCoAteDPoiSOn · 27/05/2007 22:28

spirit of salts works.. you have to get all the water out and then put it down, cover your face and open the windows cos it's nasty.. hydrochloric acid i think.. but it does work fantastically well

ScummyMummy · 27/05/2007 22:34

The harpic (limescale specific one) is AMAZING. Feel environmentally guilty about using it and only do if it gets really bad but it really zaps it away.

elibumbum · 01/06/2007 21:35

I live in a really limescaly area so I have tried lots of limescale removers! The best thing I have found is by a company called natural clean. Their limescale remover is environmentally friendly and works really quickly. It doesn't have any nasty chemically smell either.

A tablet for cleaning false teeth works too!!! i just buy the cheap ones and pop two down every night and it works a treat.
