To wonder how on earth DH has stained brand new pillowcases this badly overnight??

DH and I got home yesterday from holiday, and as a treat I bought a lovely new set of bed sheets for us to sleep in last night.
However, this morning DH has just got out of bed and this is the state of the sheet and pillowcases! He showered before he came to bed, we both got a bit hot in the night but my pillowcases are spotless.

Seriously... how the hell has he managed that?

I think it's worse with men with no hair. DH is almost bald and his pillows end up gross though not in one night. It's not just sweat, it sebum- oil from the scalp.

If you think about it, it's a mix of oil (from our skin) and sweat.

I 'd also suggest you use 100% cotton bedding. That will help keep him cooler and you can wash on 95C (if your machine does that), soak in Biotex first, and put Vanish powder into the wash too.

Wilkos does some really nice cotton bedding which is very cheap .

lljkk · 26/04/2018 08:28

Does he use the same shampoo as you?

MsHomeSlice · 26/04/2018 08:28

gawd...i moan about dh and him yellowing the bed linen, but that looks like he's wiped up a spilled curry with his face

I have given up on beautiful white bed linen....navy/blue/duck egg/aqua for sheets and pillowcases and maybe a fancy white set for "show"

And I get to poke him in the dead of night to hiss "are you sleeping on the GOOD pillowcases???" :o :o

AngeloMysterioso · 26/04/2018 08:29

We haven’t put on any aftersun since we got home, and the one we use doesn’t have fake tan in it. Plus sure then it would be the whole sheet that’s stained, whereas this is just the pillows/top end of the sheet. Nothing on the duvet or further down the sheet

On the 'it's great to be single' thread in the last few days, there's mention of 'yellow man syndrome' and I think this is what the poster was referring to.

It's telling that you used to have patterned bedding and this is your first foray into plain, light coloured. We have coloured patterned duvet cover and pillowcases, because I like something bright in an otherwise white, neutral bedroom, but also because I CBA keeping plain white bedding looking nice.

We have cats who sleep on the bed and as every cat slave will know, they can walk all the way through a carpetted house and still keep sufficient mud and other grot on their paws to make footprints on the bed. Also DP does this to his pillow and a bright patterned pillowcase disguises the problem.

Sadly, nice patterned good quality bedding is hard to find, because of the fashion for light plain colours. We have a lovely 300 thread count stripy one, and I can't find anything similar at the moment.

He drools in his sleep surelg

AngeloMysterioso · 26/04/2018 08:31

The top pillow is duck egg and stained far worse, although the bottom pillow is stained as well.

I think the problem is that you are not using cotton bedding. 100% cotton will keep you cooler, also you can boil wash.

IsAnyoneElseMissingCheese · 26/04/2018 08:33

My DH is the same, he's 31 and the pillow is yellow!
He's always clean but gets super hot in the night, the annoying thing is he has this obsession about getting pure white sheets because he thinks they look really nice and I keep having to say no because of the sweat stains!

Shedmicehugh1 · 26/04/2018 08:34

Do you sweat more from your head?

Shedmicehugh1 · 26/04/2018 08:35

If he doesn’t usually sweat like that, I’d say definitely your new bedding

AngeloMysterioso · 26/04/2018 08:35

The thing is DH furnished the flat in chunky black ikea furniture, so finding something that looks nice in the bedroom is tricky. All the patterned stuff I found I thought was a bit too feminine, I think DH would draw the line at flowers, birds or butterflies.

So, any recommendations for a not too expensive, not too feminine, patterned cotton set? I’m sick to death of stripes and check patterns in varying shades of dark blue. I was so excited for lovely light coloured sheets!

Oh god, now I’m getting DM paranoia. Might ask to move this thread, is there a housekeeping topic?

Oh my gosh that's disgusting! I can't understand how someone could achieve that in one night :/ what does he think it is?

It almost looks like he's pissed the bed. Are you sure that the pillow didn't make its way down the bed (some people end up hugging it with their thighs somehow) and have an accident? Was he drunk or does he have incontinence issues?

If it's just sweat then it seems like an excessive amount, does he sweat excessively day to day?

10yearslater · 26/04/2018 08:40

Looks like sun cream stains to me as well. My husbands light colour t shirt did exactly the same thing on holidays.

applesisapple5 · 26/04/2018 08:40

Ehem, why will YOU be changing the bedclothes again, it's his side of the bed Hmm

CiderwithBuda · 26/04/2018 08:40

DH is bad but not that bad. I agree that polycotton won’t have helped and not washing. I always was bedding before use. You don’t know where it’s been! And it’s usually treated with something.

Homebird8 · 26/04/2018 08:42

Sunscreen mixed with water can do that on pale fabrics. Sweat counts as water. Or wet hair would work too. Has he been using sunscreen recently?

AngeloMysterioso · 26/04/2018 08:43

The thing is, if it is sun cream or sweat,
How come it’s coming exclusively out of his twice-washed head and nowhere else on his body? It is literally just his pillow cases and a few tiny patches on the sheet, the rest of the bed is perfectly clean. You’d think he’d be sweating more from the parts that had the duvet over them?

I sometimes have mad sweaty episodes when asleep (mainly near period, love perimenopause) and my head and neck get soaked. It's never been that bad but there can be a faint yellow mark where it's dried. The colour seems worse when I've had strongly coloured food especially curry or when dehydrated OR when I've gone mad on the Berocca!

Sweat is the same as urine in that colour changes depending on hydration and food/drink intake. Likely that? Curry last night? Not enough water? Also if he's a dribbler then that will have same effect.

It's definitely not ear wax!! Ha!

Nakedavenger74 · 26/04/2018 08:48

Weirdly @AngeloMysterioso for me it's only my head and neck that sweats. Odd I know. It's looks to me as if he's woken up sweaty on the blue pillow and moved it (it's horrible waking up to a wet pillow) to behind his head and then carried on sweating but not as much as before on the white one.

CocoaGin · 26/04/2018 08:52

My DH is a lovely man but I'm fairly confident that no other woman would want him after sharing a bed for the night. He has restless legs and his pillow permanently looks like that..... it has to be aired every day in front of the window and washed once a week otherwise our room stinks. It's made worse by his hair loss..... think it's oil from the scalp as men "mature". His car also took on the same smell in the headrest - hence he now has leather interiors in his car.

It's revolting and DH has very cheap cotton pillowcases on so that they can be thrown away regularly.

SheSparkles · 26/04/2018 08:58

My dh is like that too 🤮, I flipping hate it! We have 100% cotton bedlinen and have for years. I’ve always put it down to a combination of sweat and him having quite oily skin..

onedayiwillmissthis · 26/04/2018 08:59

My husband's pillow used to look just the same.

Swapped his shampoo to a Neutrogena coal tar one...it definitely helped.

BrashCandicoot · 26/04/2018 09:01

DH is the same. I can only attribute it to Man Sweat.
