How do I get the smell of wee out of a mattress?

Title says it all really! DS has had a couple of accidents in my bed and now all I can smell every night is wee, despite scrubbing/fabreeze and turning the mattress!

I've heard that bicarb does it but I'm not so sure.

well bicarb instantly and miraculously removes the smell of vomit from fabric/carpet/upholster/mattresses (trust me i have used on all) so i dont see why t wouldn work for wee.

sophable swaers by bolw of water with vinegar in put next to ofending stinky thing for a day or overnight or something... my way is quicker

probably too late for you now, but I did read that if you sprinkled talcum powder on the mattress as while the wee was still wet, then left it to dry, it would absorb the liquid and the smell.Vac or brush away. Read about it when it was too late to be of use to us, but might be worth trying.

The mattress is still under guarentee so I am thinking of claiming for accidental damage and getting a new one but it was such a nightmare to get in! I'm not sure I can face removing all the door frames again!

you have to remove door frames for a mattres? cvant you bend it??

It's a superking size mattress and is quite thick so too big to be bent, believe me we tried!
The delivery men were talking about taking the windows out but thankfully DH decided to try taking the door frames out first!

and get a kingsize mattress protector sheet thing.

If you can sleep in another bed for a night whilst it dries try this-
Hoover the mattress really thoroughly
Mix a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda, a tablespoon of washing powder and 1/2 litre of water.
Use a sponge to clean the top of the mattress and scour any obviously gross areas.
Sprinkle b of S all over the wet areas and rub with a towel.
Once dry hoover, and it should be fine.

This is my oh so tried and tested method. We cosleeped with DS who used to have frequent nappy leaks.

Thanks TDWP! I will give it a try. We haven't got a spare bed to sleep in but I will do it first thing in the morning and hope it dries!

.... and then get a waterproof matress protector for your bed as well...
