If you don’t have a porch and only a narrow entrance where do you store shoes?

Looking for some inspiration. Tired baskets, tubs, the cupboard (in the living room) under the stairs. I can’t find anything big enough to store what we use and narrow enough to fit in my small/tiny hallway. Any suggestions?

Similar problem so following! We have a basket by the front and back doors for frequently used pairs, heels under my bed, and a rack in the utility, but still seem to need overspill. I'm thinking of a narrow storage unit in the utility instead of the rack but ones from ikea never look like the hold many...

I'm in one of those two up two down terraced houses, with no hallways anywhere. I have a very small 'area' by the front door which is approx a metre sq in size.

We've got just about enough room for these:

I like them because they're stackable. There's 5 of us and we need 3 of them!

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 20/03/2018 06:58

Following for ideas. Ours live in our bedrooms.

My sister had a wall mounted shoe holder when they were in a flat (with 3 children). It could have been this one www.made.com/marcell-shoe-storage-cabinet-white though may have been something else a bit similar.

In a very messy basket in the front room. Also need a better solution!

StringandGlitter · 20/03/2018 07:03

Currently using a basket by front door to store frequently worn shoes.

Also put some tension rods across bottom of my wardrobe to make a temporary shoe rack, and bought a shoe pocket wall hanger and extra strong adhesive hooks to pin in space between wardrobe and wall.

It’s not ideal. But works just about. Coats are another issue without a porch.

We have ikea algot storage like this for regular shoes and other pairs are by back door

We have a shelving g unit in the under stair cupboard. It’s for shoe storage so it’s not that deep.

You can't put anything at all in the space between the front door and the living room in our house.

Front door opens onto the stairs and living room door is adjacent to that.

If you put anything in that little 1mx1m gap you can't actually open the front door.

So all of our shoes are lined up under the radiator in the diner part of the kitchen (coat stand is also shoved in a corner of that room)

We tried keeping them in the utility room but had the same problem of not being able to open doors.

Other than that, dp keeps his on the bottom of his wardrobe, mine are in a shoe rack and ds's are under his bed.

WowserBowser · 20/03/2018 07:17

I'm having this exact problem. I would like a really thin, tall ottoman. But I'm not sure if it would still get in the way.

I would prefer something that is covered as I'm paranoid about being about to smell smelly shoes.

Leatherboundanddown · 20/03/2018 07:18

I have a tiny little porch and I recently have put a tall cd rack on each side for mine and dd's shoes. Our's fit ok but DP's feet are too big for his to fit in the gap

Batinahat · 20/03/2018 07:21

IKEA hemnes shoe cabinet. It looks clean/sleek, stands against wall neatly and holds plenty of shoes.

user380968 · 20/03/2018 07:22

We have a cupboard only for shoes and coats. We bought the house off the plans and I asked to have that space specifically designed for that and I know this is something very important but that many houses lack . It was going to be a massive bathroom in the original builder plans but now the bathroom is small and we got the shoe/coats and jackets cupboard

StripySocksAndDocs · 20/03/2018 07:24

Shoe racks under the stairs. I've a narrow hall way too- all space in hall required for walking in!!

Honeyishrunkthekids · 20/03/2018 07:25

We’re in a small terrace and use Ikea’s trones .

WowserBowser · 20/03/2018 07:25

Do you have to attach it to the wall, Bat?

Toomanycats99 · 20/03/2018 07:27

@user380968

We did same sort of thing. We had a random alcove in our house from when previous owners moved the bathroom. We had a floor to ceiling wardrobe built in it. It's fantastic. It stores all our coats shoes wellies bags etc.

I wouldn't be without it now

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2018 07:31

I can't stand shoes by the front door. Our shoes go in bedrooms.

WhirlwindHugs · 20/03/2018 07:31

We had just enough space for a bookshelf which we use to store shoes.

In previous previous, narrower house they just got lined up on the floor, 1 pair ea h max.

JoJoSM2 · 20/03/2018 07:54

If it's a little two up two down with a very narrow, awkward hallway, I'd probably knock the wall down. And have a good looking wardrobe. Either a freestanding in between the door and the stairs or maybe built into an alcove (as per photo). That would allow for some proper storage and look classy.

Havingahorridtime · 20/03/2018 07:59

Surely you just need enough storage for one pair of shoes each because the rest of the shoes go in bedrooms? We have a small shoe cupboard under the stairs for one pair of shoes each and all other shoes go under the beds.
You can get shoe drawers fitted into your staircase but they are expensive.

Batinahat · 20/03/2018 18:36

@WowserBowser yes you attach to the wall at the top will try to link but not sure can do from mobile...

Batinhat... that is amazing and so slender. I may have to check the measurements and get that ordered. Thank you everyone Smile
