Bring back original fragrance of ECOVER FABRIC SOFTENER!

I know this is so very #firstworldproblems but surely I am not the only one hating the new smell(s) of ECOVER FABRIC SOFTENER?

The half-baked explanation on the Ecover website reads, "We wanted to give our products more appealing, contemporary fragrance combinations whilst remaining true to the heritage of Ecover. These feature popular scents alongside new additions which have a modern twist on the familiar. The new dual-note, naturally inspired fragrances are designed to delight the senses and complement the scent of a happy, healthy home".

Blah blah blah. I'm not buying it! Well, actually, I did literally buy it, and I HATE it.

Ok, fine, Ecover, go ahead and introduce your new nausea-inducing sickeningly sweet floral smells, but why get rid of the original scent? I LOVE the original scent. It's just ... CLEAN and PLEASANT in quiet, unassuming background kind of way.

Bring back the Original! Bring back the Original! WHO IS WITH ME?

Are there enough of us to start some kind of social media effort or petition? Or I am the voice of a weirdo screaming into the Void?

Talk to me, people.

Sounds reasonable to me! While we're at it, can we petition Fairy for changing the fragrance of their non-bio washing liquids?

I'm allergic to so many washing products, but Fairy was the only one I knew I could use and not react to for the last almost 15 years. They changed it with stealth, put a note on the bottle the size of a 5p piece and most people missed it.

My legs were raw before I spotted a thread on here about it.

Bunch of twats. STOP FIDDLING WITH THINGS.

I did kind of agree with you at first but I’ve got used to it now. I think they’ve made it stronger because most other brands are ridiculously strong.

If I get something secondhand the smell of Ariel or whatever lasts 3/4 washes. And seems really overpowering.

HulaMum · 27/02/2018 19:49

Oh yeah, "problem solved", I can just purchase this 750ml bottle of the Original on Amazon for £103.20 !?

Silverhairedcat: with sensitive skin I am surprised you're able to use any Fairy (bio or non-bio). Yes, STOP MESSIN'

Blerg: you wrote, "I did kind of agree with you at first but I’ve got used to it now".
That's how it begins, my friend. Drop by drop, they wear you down. Then before you know it... Today, Ecover. Tomorrow, our right to vote. #thestruggleisreal #resist

Fairy was the only one I wasn't allergic to. Now I just itch and hope to find a workaround.

I’m with you on this - I hate clothes that smell obviously of fabric conditioner I just want my clothes to smell clean!

Ecover & Method have been bought out by SC Johnson, hence they’ve had upgrades to make everything more “mainstream”.

SC Johnson are one of the worst companies in the world for animal testing. The scent chemicals used in them now are questionable at best.

Having been an eco house for over 2 years, I no longer consider either brands as eco-alternatives.

EcoCleaner: Ah, now it makes sense! They've been bought out! Bloody SC Johnson. Please could you give recommendations of new brand(s) of laundry products? Thanks

SilverHairedCat - ironically an advert just pipped up for, yep, Fairy non-bio.
Hopefully EcoCleaner will offer some new eco alternative suggestions.

Fairy non-Bio is made by Proctor & Gamble, along with Ariel, Bold, Daz & Lenor.

Persil, Surf & Comfort is made by Unilever.

Laundry detergent was, for me, one of the hardest things to go eco with cause so many of them just don’t work. However there are some good ones out there.

I’ve current got Splosh jasmine powder for whites, bedding and towels and EcoZone liquid for darks. Both are very good. Splosh can only be ordered online - you but a refillable bottle and then order refill packs which come free post and fit through the letter box. The bottles are self-dosing and the powder is super concentrated so you only need a small amount and it massively reduces plastic waste.

Bio-D powder is very good too, but avoid their liquid. Their unscented laundry liquid and softener smells like melted plastic.

I don’t use fabric softener at all anymore but there are good choices from EcoZone & Splosh. EcoZone is tallow free too so doesn’t contain any animal products unlike nearly all other laundry liquids and softeners.

Anybody who doesn’t like clothes that stink should try Neutral. Sainsbury’s have just started selling it. It’s not entirely eco but it’s perfume, dye and OBA free
