I think I've ruined the lid of one of my stainless steel pans. What can I do?

I think I must have put it down on a really hot hob my mistake and now it's acquired a reddish tinge in the stainless steel. Also it had potato deposits around the inside which are now completely charred black and won't come off. Is there any stainless steel cleaner that might help?

Or to get of black chard, soak in hot water with bio soap powder over night. Will bring your sink up nice and shiny too.
