So long since i've painted a room - it is woodwork first then walls?

Or is it the other way round? Need to make sure that I plan enough drying time!

I never use masking tape. A babywipe if great for removing drips of wet paint from existing paintwork.

I'd never thought of it before until I saw a company who actually advertised that they'd do anything from preparation up to a full job.

You'll need to wash the woodwork after you've sanded. And wipe the walls down. Has to be dust free.

Awwww lucky you .....Thanks for the info.xx

spend as much time as you can on the prep (tommy walsh said ). i don't like masking tape much if you use it take it off as soon as you've painted or it'll stick like glue.

I started off today enthusiastic about this - at this rate I'll be asking for their number!

OK I reckon I need 3 schoolday length sessions for this, not 2 (room is roughly 4.5 x 2.5m). And possibly an evening...

If the woodwork is already painted, you only need to scratch up the surface so the new paint has a "key" to bind with. You don't need to sand back to wood. Sorry if I'm telling you something obvious...

This is really bad- i decorated my small bathroom..must be nearly a year ago and put masking tape kinda stuff (bought it from b and q so same sort of thing) on the ceiling to stop spillages on the ceiling.......i couldn't get it down as the ceilings are very high.....was hasseling DP to get it but we never got round to it-and now too scared to take it off.......lol

Not sure what will look worse the tape being there or the rim of broken paint!!!!

How lazy i am-so never had the 'room completed' satisfaction with that one!

Twinmummyx2 · 26/04/2007 14:09

Not obvious to me!!! you have saved me coming back next week and asking that question

xx
