Best way to wash (fake) fur on kids clothing

Id never really encountered furry clothing until DD arrived and now I seem to be in charge of washing a few items (think fluffy furry gilet, furry cuffs on things- that sort of thing). As soon as I wash them they lose all sleekness and just look really scraggly. Is there a better way to do it or are these clothes just destined to be ruined?

I always find a very low delicate wash works well (if your machine has that setting.)

Great thank you! I have a woollen or silk setting so will try one of those next time

I use an old plastic hairbrush to ‘groom’ faux fur after washing - seems to restore it to its former fluffiness.

I do the brushing of the fur as soon as it's out of the washer too, if I think on, again before it's fully dry.
