I'm about to make 'the list' would anyone like to join me? Thankfully the dc don't break up until next Friday but I do have the 2yo & 4 month old with me so I won't be entirely unhindered. Think the kitchen will be #1, I did the cooker last week & need the oopmh to do the rest now Xmas Blush

Prosescco when I get that - Shock where the hell do I start? feeling I start with whatever is on my left.

No progress will be made today. I shall leap into action tomorrow. Leap I tell you.

AnonEvent · 15/12/2017 20:17

Tomorrow - the hall, the skirting boards need a good clean as DD's pushchair rubs against them regularly leaving gritty smears.

mathanxiety · 15/12/2017 20:35

Have to get the LL to shift the window AC unit out of the sitting room window so I can move the plants from the dining room window and make room for the tree.

Have to shift DD3's suitcase and clothes out of the sitting room before the LL can get in.

I've been putting off emptying the cat box for a few days and putting in a whole new boxful of kitty litter but that has to be done tonight.

Also need the Salvation Army to come around and move a big craft desk we don't need any more, that is gathering dust on my back porch and getting in the way. The SA pick up donations here for free, and hopefully they can sell the big table in their local shop.

Need to take out the decorations. They are in the closet behind the cat box. Need to make sure that the cat doesn't destroy them before they even go on the tree.

I did the bathroom and DD4's bedroom within an inch of their lives yesterday, so DD2 will have somewhere to put her stuff when she arrives. Kitchen is up next. It's a matter of finding a home for odds and ends that have ended up there, as I did a deep clean last week.

Polishing.
Thorough vacuuming.
Thorough floor mopping.
Bedding and towels laundry.
Saturday morning will be busy.

DD4 is having a friend for a sleepover on Saturday night, so need to be ready by then and not spraying Pledge around them as they chat or whatever.

CurlsandCurves · 15/12/2017 20:37

Lord knows what came over me but over the course of last weekend I cleared out my kitchen cupboards. Every time I was in there I tackled a cupboard and chucked out a load of stuff. Even went through my freezer. I avoided the junk drawer, but I intend to tackle it this weekend.

The kids toy box needs to be de cluttered before Christmas as well.

I refuse to feel guilty about paying to have my oven cleaned. The guy that does mine gets it in his words ‘bombproof’ I could be working on it for a while month and never get it as clean as he does. It’s extending the life of my oven so saving us money really....

mathanxiety · 15/12/2017 20:39

Bernard, I have five too, though the youngest is 16 now. When they were little and I needed to get a big project done I used to turn on the TV and let them watch for hours.

KnightsOfCydonia · 16/12/2017 08:13

Can I join?
This is my project for today, I'm fine once I get started but I struggle to find the motivation to get going, my entire house needs done! and then maintained until Christmas because I won't have time for another big clean nearer the day as I have to prepare Xmas dinner for 14 people once I've tackled the house Xmas Confused

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/12/2017 09:48

Afresh I'm really liking it actually. He came at the start of the 6 week holidays so I was able to get bf established without having to go on school runs etc which helped. The early days were very much a case of everyone fed, clean, cuddled & no one feral though Grin We only planned 3, #4 was surprise & made me so broody.

Math I think netflix & whichever sky channel has Peppa Pig will be my friend with the 2yo next week. Do yours all get on fairly well? My biggest fear is they'll hate each other when they're older but I think I'd have that worry if there were only 2 too as DH & his sister have been all but nc for years (with very valid reasons though).

I now have visitors today...our room should only take an hour though so I think I'll do up there before they come. The dc can do their rooms at the same time so I can vaccum through after.

I think I'll make a start on the kitchen. I did the oven last night and cleared out the medicine cabinet and although it took me over an hour it hasn't made much difference to the kitchen. I need to completely gut the cupboards out, clean the kitchen window (and windowsill), bleach the tiles and bleach the fridge. Then I will make a start on the hallway skirts and banister which seem to have a suction mechanism for dirt and dust.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 16/12/2017 17:11

Well done for getting started last night Prosecco. I managed to get the bedroom done. Going to start tackling the kitchen tomorrow while cooking lunch. The dc were sent on a mission to find all the washing earlier fuck knows where they hide it & my bathroom now looks like the foothills of the Himalaya Xmas Hmm so it seems like I'll be doing a lot of washing over the next few days too...

They all got a bit tetchy and prickly to each other when they were just hitting puberty (maybe 13/14ish), sadly one after the other for a few years, though they were also a bit hostile to me too at that point. That all settled down and we all get along very well now. 15 on was plain sailing.

There are definitely little groupings who are closer than others, certain irritating factors for each individual, someone who snores, someone who puts the OJ back empty into the fridge, someone who leaves hair in the bath drain for the next person to clear. In general though, they knock along very nicely together and we have fun.

If you are concerned, make sure you have a rule about people's personal property being sacrosanct and make them do chores. This makes for smoother sailing and an easier life for you. Get them going at the chores somewhere between age 8 and 13 or you won't be able to establish the habit.

AdoraBell · 16/12/2017 22:45

Managed some laundry and shopping today.

So much needs doing. So much.

Tomorrow the fridge needs cleaning out. Then bathrooms will be cleaned thoroughly. After that I plan to deep clean the kitchen.

Can’t face doing an actual To Do list.

KnightsOfCydonia · 16/12/2017 23:12

Today I managed to:
Clean the oven
Catch up on washings
Clear out DS room.

Tomorrow I will be tackling DD's room and my own, and the rest of the kitchen.
I'm shattered and really can't be arsed but back at work on Monday and next weekend we are spending the Saturday out seeing Santa and Xmas movie at cinema etc, then Sunday will be spent prepping copious amounts of food Xmas Shock
Does anyone else feel like we've lost a week or 2 from December this year? I feel like it was only the first a few days ago and honestly don't know what has happened to all the days in between.

cikecaka · 17/12/2017 09:26

Good Morning, my house has gone to the 'it's been hit by a bomb and then hit again' stage! DH gone to collect DD2 from college, so would love to surprise him on his return!
So I hope it's ok to join you!
First project

Kitchen
Wash/Dry dishes
Clean counters (properly)
Put away laundry
Sweep floor
Wash floor
Put on a wash

AnonEvent · 17/12/2017 09:45

This:

* Today I managed to:*
Clean the oven
Catch up on washings
Clear out DS room.

Is the stuff of dreams!

I did manage to post all remaining Christmas cards, tidy our room, and completely rearrange the living room to make space for a tree (and DH hoovered everywhere).

Today is skirting board day and mopping day.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 17/12/2017 10:29

Yes, December definitely seems shorter this year Knights glad it's not just me that thinks it!

I'm going to get the baby changed & fed then start on the kitchen. Think dh is going to get some food so hopefully he'll take 1 or 2 dc with him.

I've decided my POA next week is tidy when the 2yo is awake & wrap when he's napping (he only has about 1-1.5hour nap but it's enough to get it done over the course of the week). I'm hoping I'll have time to run the carpet cleaner over the lounge too. Cream carpets were not my wisest decision.

Can't believe this time next week it'll be Christmas Eve!

Anon eurgh I loathe doing skirting boards. It's a weekly occurrence in our house though because of Bernard slobber (& she's fairly dry mouthed). She always comes for cuddles when I do them so it takes ages as I keep ending up with her on my lap.

I do that Merry I like ticking things off, makes me feel more accomplished Xmas Grin

Side of doom #1 in the kichen is done but I don't seem to be getting anywhere fast as we keep having visitors! Roll on tomorrow when the dc are at school & dh is at work

Those extendable microfibre dusters are amazing for skirts (the ones that look like mini dreadlocks), you just have to walk around the house dragging it across the skirts and then hoover up any dust. Also if there is something that needs scrubbing on it you can spray the end of the duster with cleaning spray and scrub that way, saves getting on your hands and knees!

Today I have managed a grand total of fuck all! I desperately need to put the recycling out but it's SO COLD.

cikecaka · 17/12/2017 16:06

DD2 has arrived home from college, kitchen looks like a bomb site after cooking and all her bags of clothes to be washed. Aw well, it looked nice for an hour

AdoraBell · 17/12/2017 19:51

DH hoovered this morning. It’s daily slog with 3 German shepherds Xmas Hmm

I have cleaned the bathrooms but not much else. We ended up going shopping instead.
