I am getting my ducks in a row.

What do i do to rent a storage room? What is it likely to cost me for say 3 months during a trial separation?

It is easy to do?

the answer to the last question is 'yes'. Just search on 'self storage' for your area.

costs vary according to size of unit and where you live. Make sure it is a climate controlled warehouse, not a container, and remember that you need to buy separate insurance for the items.

Thanks.

Do I need to buy a certain standard of padlock?

Re: insuring - do i buy the storage place's insurance or contact for argument's sake TESCO Insurance. Is is called Contents Insurance? What about the existing home insurance policy?

I'd be storing clothes, cds, books, shoes, boots etc. All personal items.

I don't plan on taking/storing any furniture with me just bed linen and duvets and pillows. I want to me able to move all my stuff on my own. I do not want the hassle of heavy bulky furniture or appliances.

It is a highly competitive market and cut throat. Go and look at the place. Some places are well run, it's easy to access etc. Others are dodgy. Think how often you may want to access stuff: and if it would be out of hours. Check you feel safe going there. And it's always worth getting a few insurance quotes. And prepare to bombarded with emails and phone calls....we looked 8 months ago and they are still calling! Good luck.

Hi I name changed as felt my previous name would identify me.

Thanks very much for the advice. I will make a few phone calls tonight. There is a company I have in mind as I drive past frequently.I think I need a fairly large room and a couple of hanging rails. then I just need to start filling up boxes and drive stuff there.

The storage company will tell you what padlock you need. And you want specialist storage cover, not home contents. Your current policy is unlikely to cover it although give them a call.

Given how cheap bedding is, think about what you store.
