is it properly plumbed in?
do you use liquid or powder detergent?
washing temperatures?
do you leave the door open after a wash?

abitoflight · 12/09/2017 18:51

I had this with my washer
Spent hours on internet and eventually found answer from detergent chemist on a mumsnet thread
Long story short - use bio big box powder not any form of liquid

abitoflight · 12/09/2017 18:53

If u can, run ur finger around outside of metal drum thru gap with rubber seal - is it slimy?

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 19:03

Had this with mine - the filter needed cleaning. Suggest you google that with the model of your machine.

My filter was clogged with horrible smelling stuff but this did the trick.

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 19:13

Thanks i have already checked the filter it was clear

Disclaimer: I know nothing about plumbing.

But, if it happened with the machine before too, could it be an issue with the drains maybe?

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/09/2017 19:16

Bung a dishwasher tablet in the drum and put it on an empty 90 degree wash. Yes might have to do it a couple of times. Clean out the drawer too.

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 19:18

I have done lots off 90 washes to clean it ave tryed the cleaning products to clean it the draw is spotless ..i no nothing about drains or anything how can drains make inside my washer smell

Is the pipe plumped in high enough? If it's not then dirty water will run back into the machine.

CaptWentworth · 12/09/2017 19:20

I had this two days after getting a new washer. The hose at the back just sits inside a waste pipe. Removing the previous one had obviously disturbed some grot, and it was flowing back into the machine.

I put a bottle of drain cleaner down the waste pipe and left it overnight. Then ran a cleaning cycle at 90. Never had a problem since.

andbabymakesthree · 12/09/2017 19:20

It's the drains probably

abitoflight · 12/09/2017 19:22

I'm not right in that case so pls ignore
If not slimy, u using big box powder etc it does sound like plumbing tbh
The only thing that I would know to do in that case is to make sure u bend clear and that outside where it drains into isn't full of leaves/fat/general crap but sure u done this

MrsAnamCara · 12/09/2017 19:23

Maybe you need to open the flap, usually at the bottom of the machine, pull out the tube and drain the water.

abitoflight · 12/09/2017 19:25

My mum had a special ladle to clear out crap from drain from sink drain outside, boiling water and soda crystals then jeyes fluid

OlennasWimple · 12/09/2017 19:35

Have you tried the baking soda and white vinegar trick?

ieatchocolate · 12/09/2017 19:40

If it's plumbed into the pipes under the sink it could be that it's those pipes that are gunged up.

I found this with a new washer and ended up dismantling the pipework to clean it all out. It was grim. Very grim. But it did solve the problem.

Really need to do it again.

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 19:46

I have took the ubend off under sink nothing in it just water .. my washing machine hose exits the top off my washer and goes down to floor runs along floor abit then up to sink

GlitterGlue · 12/09/2017 19:48

If both have had the same issue it does seem likely it's the drains or pipes. Did they use the same hose?

purpledonkey · 12/09/2017 19:52

Have you got a trap fitted in the plumbing behind the machine? I didn't have until recently and mine was stinky too.

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 19:55

No the washing machine comes with a new hose it is attached to the washing machin and yes there is a trap under the sink where it connects

OP posts:
DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 12/09/2017 20:00

It sounds like it might be the way it's plumbed in, the hose needs to be up higher than the machine.

Mummy15 · 12/09/2017 21:09

There is no way water from the sink can travel back into he machine as the washer drains from the top the ubend under the sink is lower then the draiage point the water could only ever stay in the hose not travel back into the washer if that makes any sense
