Autumnal Scents

Inspired by IamChipmunk's lovely Christmas smells thread over in Christmas.

I am a hardcore seasonal scenter and love my home fragrance to reflect the season e.g. Handwashes, candles, beauty products, cleaning products, Zoflora obviously Grin

Now summer is drawing to a close I'm on the lookout for lovely Autumnal scented things. I've got my trusty Vanilla Chai YankeeCandle waiting to be lit on 1st September and Twilight Garden Zoflora (a real end of summer one for me). I'm always on the look out for new things though.

Does anyone have any suggestions of nice handwashes, candles etc to make us all feel cosy before we crack out the Christmas products?

Hello Mrs. The scent sachets are just that. Small decorative little envelopes full of something which rattles and smell lovely. I got them in various scents. Do you remember Victoria Plum from your childhood? Some of them remind me of that smell.

Woodwick do a candle called fireside, you should get one of the melts to sample it. I remember liking it, I'm burning their warm wool at the moment, everyone loves it.

Kelp23 · 08/09/2017 17:52

Hi, check out www.harveywicks.co.uk they do home fragrances such as candles and reed diffusers. They do the BlackBerry and bay scent and lots of other lovely smells. I also know that they are about to start adding their festive fragrances. Should be available from the end of this month.

Bazzinga · 09/09/2017 12:53

Does anyone change decor seasonally?
I was thinking of an autumn wreath, autumn coloured blankets etc?

Pestilentialone · 09/09/2017 13:01

Aldi scented candles £3.99 They do a blackberry and bay, it is subtle but does scent the room.
Bazz I change the throws in the room, move ornaments around (move blue stuff to back of shelf, bring wooden stuff out) makes the room feel different.

Bazzinga · 09/09/2017 14:02

Oh interesting!
I'm oak furniture and green accents. Think I'll buy an orange candle, maybe some autumn leaf coloured cushions and a throw.

Maudlinmaud · 09/09/2017 16:02

I decorate for Halloween, I'm on the lookout for a nice autumnal wreath for my mantle. I've seen some on etsy but the prices make my eyes water. I might try and make my own. We got some turf delivered today, really looking forward to sitting in front of the fire tonight.

ParadiseLaundry · 10/09/2017 18:41

Apologies for neglecting this thread for a few days but I have to say I love the direction it has taken!

@Maudlinmaud I LOVE the Fireside candle and the relaxing crackle sound it makes when burning. I totally forgot about it but it's perfect for Autumn!

I saw on another thread someone mentioned Aldi reed difusers (I'm assuming they have the same scents as the lovely sounding candles you mention @Pestilentialone, that and I think a pomegranate one, are they any good with scent? I find most supermarket candles a bit disappointing.

As for seasonal decoration, where do I begin! I do put throws on the sofas, I replace the two pots of lavender at the sides of the front door with conifers (and am planning to decorate them for Xmas with beads, perhaps) and just like you, @Maudlinmaud, decorate for Halloween (although another mumsnetter made fun of me last year for doing so Sad) if you do decide to make your own autumn wreath you must post pictures!

I bought Warm Cinnamon, Cranberry and Orange & Winter Spice Zoflora the other day! They smell amazing! Can you use Zoflora like febreeze?

ParadiseLaundry · 11/09/2017 08:37

That looks great @Bazzinga! You have to update us later on what it's like! I just saw they also did an Orange and Star Anise one that looks great. I discovered it when googling recipes for Christmas ice cream though so maybe it doesn't count as it's too Christmasy

@RhinoGirl I also got the Winter Spice and Orange and Cranberry yesterday! Where did you get the Warm Cinnamon? as I remember that being my favourite last year when the weather started getting colder. I know people do you it like Febreeze but I've never tried it myself. I don't see why it wouldn't work quite well tbh.

Home Bargains 99p! :) ohhh good my house will smell lovely in a few weeks! ( waiting to use up the last of what I have)

ParadiseLaundry · 11/09/2017 08:58

Ah great, thanks, I can get to a Home Bargains! That's sensible and restrained of you, I have decided to put the rest of what I have away for next year and am cracking the Winter ones out now Grin

Morning. Oh oh oh I had a sniff at some big jar candles in home bargains at the weekend, one of them was gorgeous, the Halloween scent was disappointing though. Not sure what the throw would be like. I've started buying my Yankee tarts from amazon, £10 for 10 with free delivery.
When I decorate I'll stick up a picture, I've been buying Halloween decs for years, tk maxx is brilliant for quirky unusual ones.

ParadiseLaundry · 11/09/2017 11:29

Ooh, another reason to go to Home Bargains, I will have to make a trip this week. Hmm, I really fancy a pack of the Yankee Candle seasonal votives, that sounds like a good price for the tarts so hopefully they will also have good offers on those. Do you use the tarts in the electric diffuser? Yes to pictures of autumnal/Halloween decoration, I'd love some new ideas!

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 11/09/2017 12:08

I have a few electric burners, some are Yankee and given to me as gifts, others are glade and work just as well, I picked those up for about £5 each. Feel more content using the electric versions as I had a small fire on new years eve a few years ago. Some flowers dropped into a lit candle on my hall table and everything went up. Thankfully we where in the kitchen and the smoke alarm went off. The new diffuser only takes oil's and water but I'm impressed. Have a look at them on amazon. Have you tried swan creek melts yet, I got mine from a seller on ebay. Don't be put off by the price, burning half a melt will last for days, they are exceptional value.

rankoutsider · 23/09/2017 02:45

Expensive, but I love Neom perfect peace candle

SplatPancake · 23/09/2017 12:02

The Aldi £3.99 jobs are great, if total Jo Malone ripoffs - lime, basil & mandarin currently in downstairs loo. Small room, scent fills it, can't imagine it would do so in s bigger room, but hey, £3.99 and My real Jo Malone not competing with the scent of toilet training, if you know what I mean.

They also have blackberry & bay and pomegranate noir, which I liked but too similar to my full-on late autumn fave of True Grace Portabello Oud. Diffusers of all 3 too.

I did read somewhere that they were going for Pear & Freesia too, but that hasn't made it to darkest Wiltshire yet...

OverinaFlash · 26/09/2017 13:02

I've bought a bayleaf, cinammon and chilli wreath for the door for autumn. It smeels incredible. And it was on sale for about a tenner!

I like autumnal/harvest rather than halloween decs although had some great black tealights one year which were a bit spooky in the pumpkin!

OverinaFlash · 26/09/2017 13:03

Smells obviously, not smeels.

@OverinaFlash that wreath sounds amazing! I would love an autumnal wreath, where did you get it?

My budget is a bit tight at the moment for most of the lovely things mentioned here but I think I could probably spring for an Aldi candle seeing as they come so night recommended.

There are lots of pine cones, conkers and acorns around at the minute, I have been trying to collect some. I'd love to do something with them for the house but I'm not very creative. Has anyone else done anything like this?

OP posts:
Maudlinmaud · 27/09/2017 15:34

Overina where did you get it? I want one, especially as it's scented. Yankee candle autumn glow is currently happening here. It's really really lovely and I didn't like it on cold sniff. Autumn has certainly arrived with a bang.

EnidButton · 28/09/2017 04:10

This dropped off my threads I'm on list.

It's properly Autumn here now but I haven't found the perfect candle yet. I've put a Christmas pudding scented one out on the kitchen. It's a spiced vanilla type scent rather than full on cloves and cinnamon like some Christmas candles.

I was watching a YT video earlier by an American woman, she had bought lots of Fall themed decorations and candles. I wouldn't go that far but a wreath would be lovely and wish we had that much choice here.

ParadiseLaundry · 15/10/2017 17:48

How is everyone's Autumnal Scenting and decorating getting on? I have started putting a few Halloween decs up (the tasteful ones Grin) but will really go for it about the week before.

Also DH bought me this candle from TK Maxx and while it's technically a Christmas candle it is quite autumnal. It smells absolutely amazing!
