Limescale. Someone help before I become encalcified in it...

Hard water area. Have tried vinegar - fine for shower head when left overnight, but no good for (silly) waterfall tap and rim of toilet.

Any miracle products?

Hg limescale remover (the bottle not the spray) from b and q/home base. It glows white when you apply it, then use wire wool or a scraper after 3-4 mins.

I used to be a cleaner in a hard water area. I could charge £20 an hour for cleaning because I finally got rid of people's limescale!

Soak a cloth in vinegar and wrap around anything you can't soak in it. Or use Viyakal.

Best use of the word encalcified in a thread title ever :o. And I'm agog at the deleted thread about limescale removal - I wonder how on earth that managed to go tits-up? I'm imagining the Kilrock massive versus the Viakal possie - some sort of spray-bottles at dawn scenario. I'd have been in the Kilrock massive.

Citric acid (dried lemon juice). I put it on as a paste, it's a stronger acid than vinegar.

You can even buy loo cleaner with limescale remover.

I have had a go with Viyakal. I felt like I got more off from the friction of the scrubby thing than the actual spray.

Should I try again? I scrubbed straight away... should I have had a cup of gin tea and come back to it?

Glad to have backup options. Encalcification is no joke.

Kilrock descaler. It is the best. Just been using this week. I did my kettle, my iron, all the taps in the bathroom and my shower head. It is extremely effective.

Vikal is not as good. I have that as well but it's just not as strong.

Waitrose do a gel one which tends not to drip. I put it on and then soak it up in a piece of kitchen roll which sticks to vertical surfaces. The thing is I tend to be impatient, best to do it and then go and do something else and come back.

Viakal! We're also installing a water softener soon and so hopefully limescale will be a thing of the past.

I don't rate the Viakal spray, only the bottles of liquid and leave it on for a while.

Kilrock is new to me! Can you buy it in the supermarket or Lakeland or do you have to buy it online?

We gave in and installed a water softener about 18 months ago. Most of the taps cleared up over about a year, but a couple of the worst ones with actual stalactites still have nasty scratchy edges. I think we are going to have to replace those with new.

If you do go down this route, leave a little tap with hard water for tea. We tried to drink the softened, but it was too weird in tea.

Aldi sometimes sell Kilrock. Think they are selling the version for washing machines at the moment. We get Kilrock big K from a local hardware shop but you can get it online.

It was the cleaner for our business who recommended it. Never had anything work as well.

Absolutely stinks though for a few minutes when you are using it. It's one of the jobs I hate doing but is surprisingly satisfying.

Crumbelina if you having a water softener fitted you may have to change your detergents. This may be a thing of the past but I remember going on holiday in soft water areas and taking products bought in a hard water area and basically having my own foam party in the shower. It was the same with the washing up liquid. Luckily we didn't use the washing machine.

What about limescale on shower doors? I've tried all of the above and makes no difference. Where am I going wrong?
