Hard water area. Have tried vinegar - fine for shower head when left overnight, but no good for (silly) waterfall tap and rim of toilet.

Any miracle products?

The electric water softeners claim that they will over time reduce scale buildup as well as prevent further scale. They're not expensive, but I've never tried them so can't testify as to their actual effectiveness

Update. Got some Kilrock. Worked like a charm. BUT. The limescale took its opportunity, and has eroded the actual surface of my lovey tap in several places. Angry

I feel like this thread is the wrong audience as you all have a plethora of limescale removers, but I hope that others can learn from my slovenly habits and get rid of their limescale before it goes too far! SadConfused

Yikes BlackThumb, that didn't happen to me and I left it on there for a while.
Did you make sure to dilute it first?

userofthiswebsite · 10/08/2017 22:26

Oh think I misread. The limescale itself damaged your tap, not the Kilrock? I wonder if you can buff away the damage.

I can recommend :-) BarKeepers friend. I use that on my sink. Astonish paste £1 is also good.

BlackThumb · 11/08/2017 00:34

I didn't dilute the Kilrock, it didn't tell me to, was the gel. Reading the back of the tub was actually where I realised what had happened, the limescale has pitted the shiny surface of the tap. When I told DH this he helpfully said - oh yeah I saw that a while ago... Angry

Tried bar keepers friend on some brown pan marks, didn't make any difference! I am ineffective at the finer points of all cleaning it seems.

Method loo cleaner is the BEST thing to use if you have such hard water that under the waterline goes black.

It's usually available from Waitrose or Robert Dyas, turquoise bottle, about three quid a bottle, worth it's weight in gold.

I had tried everything before - cleaning products, vikal, vinegar, coke, the works. Method is the only thing that really helps.

Kilrock big k and Kilrock big W were both on sale in my local Aldi when I popped in today
