Hard water area. Have tried vinegar - fine for shower head when left overnight, but no good for (silly) waterfall tap and rim of toilet.

Any miracle products?

Well the kettle is done within 2 minutes.

Iron I leave it out overnight. Showerhead ditto in a bag filled with water and some of this in. These are probably done much quicker but can leave these with the stuff in without bothering me whereas obviously I want my kettle for tea and stuff.

Here's a tip For my taps which had build up where the water comes out I poured some into a laundry doser cap and stuck it on the cap. Cap sat nicely on the tap and the stuff just dissolved.

Scrowy · 08/08/2017 21:22

No it was deleted for being a troll. But it was just a thread exactly like this one, how can someone troll about limescale removers!?

SingaporeSlander · 08/08/2017 21:26

userof love that laundry liquid cap tip!

Scrowy I promise I am real. And so is my limescale. Don't want to scare you all with pics for proof...

I'm going back to the Viakal, and leaving longer. If no joy I'll join... the other side...

User I unscrewed my shower door at Easter, laid it on the grass and poured limescale remover on it, left it for a while and used a washing up brush to get in the joints and seals, I then swilled it off with the garden hose. It tends not to build up so fast if you can train your family to use that after shower spray stuff, mine are still very much in training.

CoxsOrangePippin · 08/08/2017 21:32

Citric acid for the kettle - edible, so
you just give it a quick rinse rather than needing to check every bit of chemical nastiness is gone

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 08/08/2017 21:34

You can use a squeegee on the shower door after showering. Prevents limescale from forming.

sm40 · 08/08/2017 21:44

Lidl do a good limescale remover and found a gadget in Lakeland to help put it into the end of taps
www.lakeland.co.uk/23435/Limey-Standard-Tap-Head-Cleaner

elephantoverthehill · 08/08/2017 22:05

sm40 or you could use a balloon, fingers of old rubber gloves or a condom, unless the limescale remover would perish them. is that enough to get my post reported and the thread to disappear?

AllToadsLeadToHome · 08/08/2017 23:18

For taps I have a Limey from Lakeland. If they still have them, it is a little bag that loops over the tap and you fill it with whatever you want to use and take it off when it is done. I used Viakal and it took a few days for the deposits to come off some of the taps from when we moved in.

I use neat vinegar on the sinks/hand basins, pour on and leave it with a bit of soaked tissue or a cloth around the base of the taps, wipe the taps with it and leave it for a few hours, then wipe off.

Toilet rims I use Spirits of Salts, also on the water line, not pleasant but works and doesn't need doing often if you keep them well cleaned.

Eleventybillionfucks · 08/08/2017 23:25

I use cut up lemons, when we first moved into our first house a few years ago the taps were all encrusted in thick yellowed limescale but squeezing lemons against it and holding it there made it all fizz away in seconds

BradleyPooper · 09/08/2017 01:17

Citric acid! My dd bought a kilo of it for her (illicit) bath bomb trade at school. Half a cup in my kettle cleaned it perfectly, way better than any other solution, vinegar, lemons etc.

wowfudge · 09/08/2017 06:12

I think I can shed light on the deleted thread: there have been spates of spammers advertising - usually via links to products on Amazon - and the MO is often to copy and paste an old, genuine opening post just so they can recommend their product in response. Unfortunately, there are other genuine posters who contribute and whose posts are removed when the thread is.

SorrelForbes · 09/08/2017 07:15

Honestly, the H3 stuff is amazing especially around taps and on shower doors. Just spray it on and leave it. No scrubbing or rinsing required.

BlackThumb · 09/08/2017 21:59

Back with a (fairly dull) update. Left Viakal on. Tap is pleasingly shiny and some lower level gunk has gone. But, hardcore crusty bits while lessened, remain. I worry this may be something I need to add to my regular cleaning schedule Envy

Trying to the natural route again with half a lemon stuck on it tomorrow before I go away for the weekend and try to forget it exists.

Sammysquiz · 09/08/2017 22:28

You need Kilrock! The gel, not the liquid. It's amazing, will clear those crusty bits in minutes Grin

SorrelForbes · 10/08/2017 06:58

H3 H3 H3! 😁. It'll just make the limescale disappear.

Ifailed · 10/08/2017 07:02

I suggest you stock on stuff like Kilrock, as it's sale will soon be restricted given the spate of acid attacks in the media.

I also recommend Waitrose own brand gel but this week I've used cilit bang limescale remover and it's outstanding

Oddsocksforeveryone · 10/08/2017 07:20

I feel daft saying this, but I tape (halved) limes to my taps for a few hours and usually limescale then scrapes off.
For the toilet nothing else I've tried works as well as emptying the bowl and using a sachet of de-scaler and hot water.
Never tried citric acid or a couple of these suggestions. Very useful thread.

You can usually unscrew the ends if your taps and soak them in limescale remover. Screw them back on when they are clean.
For the toilet Black Harpic limescale remover. It's the same shape as toilet duck. It's really good although smells awful, leave it on for longer than it says, quick scrub and it's done.

BlackThumb · 10/08/2017 10:07

Thanks all. For those suggesting H3, I can't find it on Amazon, only HG? Am I being dim?

Definitely trying be lemons / limes for taps, and know black Harpic is good but it's more right up on the edge of the rim, and everything drips down... Kilrock gel might solve that.

SorrelForbes · 10/08/2017 12:37

Sorry, yes it's HG!

BlackThumb · 10/08/2017 13:21

Ah great, thanks.

Also should say it's OP here, have had one of my periodic name changes.
