Housework I don't know I should be doing

The recent thread on hoovering your mattress got me thinking. What other housework tasks do I not know I need to do?

I'm not a complete slattern. I tidy, dust, Hoover, clean the kitchen & bathroom, change beds etc at least weekly. Obviously windows, paintwork etc get done, just less frequently But what might I not know to do, and how often should I be doing it?

I'm all for reusing, I hate waste. I never use wet wipes or kitchen roll. I've got a basket of cleaning cloths under the kitchen sink and they get used for pretty much everything, washed and reused. Same with things like mop heads, sweeping brushes etc.

Or you can stick it in the recycling bin most brushes are recycled Confused

I found out on friday my mum has 4 mops 1 for the kitchen and bathroom 1 for the livingroom and hall 1 to dry and buff the livingroom and hall 4 i am not to sure about really. My bannisters get filthy i clean them once a week my friend gave me a "look" when i told her this.

Bannister's and skirting boards are such dirt magnets i only have skirting boards to contend with but they get filthy and dusty as soon as I've finished wiping them down each week. I blame the dog

Toilet brushes aren't recyclable. That type of hard, rigid plastic isn't recyclable. Same reason you can't throw old kids toys and such in the recycling.

I'm not one to agree with zealous use of disinfectant, but if you have a landline phone then it's worth going over the outside of your phone handset(s) with antibac once in a while. Quite a few germs live on them!

I am a bit slatternly, and tend to clean the "bits you can see" the most rigorously and gleefully ignore the rest, however I did spend a good 20 minutes hoovering my mattress yesterday. #ThisEffinWebsite

The inside bit where the washing powder dispenser goes that gathers all that black mould is designed and manufactured in such a way that it is virtually impossible to clean. Weird angle with the toothbrush and too many nooks and crannies. Maybe someone knows better than me!

Afuna I like your mother's style. Smile

The bit inside the dishwasher that gets covered when the door is shut. It gets really mankey with food splatters and isnt washed when the dishwasher runs.
