Can I wash a wool crepe dress in the machine?

I have a 100% wool crepe dress with polyester lining that I have worn once, today, and sweated in.

It says dry clean only but do you think I could wash it on eg the wool wash on the machine?

It's my most expensive dress by miles - I got it less than half price online - so I don't want to ruin it.

But it seems a waste of money to dry clean after just one wear.

Any thoughts welcome!

What colour is the dress?
If it is dark, I would turn it inside out and with a damp cloth gently wipe the lining down, hang and leave to dry.

If it is a dress you see as an investment, it might be worth asking your dry cleaner for a quote on replacing the polyester lining with a more breathable fabric.

It's navy blue.

What a great idea turning it inside out and washing the lining - I'm going to do exactly that.

Thank you!

Learned the hard way with a Roland Mouret on a delicate / wool cycle. Definitely don't.

Nooooo. Nope. Absolutely not. You'll destroy it.
