What else can you put in a washing machine?

I recently started a thread about what else I can put in a dishwasher and I was so surprised at the stuff I had not thought of and thought I may be missing a few tricks with the washing machine too.

Somebody already mentioned putting a non slip bath mat in the washing machine or dishwasher.

Do you guys put anything else in the washing machine other than clothes?

As a junior in a hairdressers 30 years ago, I used to wash hair curlers and brushes in the washing machine. They came up really well.

Good thread. Can you put s link to your dishwasher thread pls?

I put j-cloths and shower puffs in the WM & haven't bought any new ones for a looong time. I've got some bath toys that I'm going to shove in a laundry bag with a towel and see how they come out (hadn't thought of doing that until reading this thread).

Quick question, but do you put leotards in the washing machine? As in the Milano leotards? I've watched some tutorials on how to hand wash them, but I'm wondering if there's anyway to put them in the washing machine without ruining them.

I wash the DD's Nikes. Their Converse. Their Vans. Also, their Kanken ruck-sacs.

Wash the DDs single, summer weight duvets (they're goosedown so you do need to tumble dry them to properly fluff them up afterwards).

I washed a Cath Kidston handbag in the washing machine on a cold/handwash setting and it came out really well. It was one of the shiny oilcloth ones.

Have also washed a real wool sheepskin, as well as other sheepskin items like slippers, and they came out well on the coldest setting with either low or no spin cycle.

I have a king size duvet that needs cleaning (cheers DS for creeping into my bed like a ninja in the night and weeing all over my new duvet). It says machine washable but I can't see how it would fit! Has anyone had any success?

I realise I could just try it to see but I currently have a different load in!

BusyBee2017 · 29/05/2017 12:46

I haven't washed duvets in the machine but I was planning on trying too ... should have tried it when we had this hestwave... I saw the neighbours duvet out on the line during the heatwave and thought clever lady because you don't use them in summer or heatwaves lol

I put the rubber shower-bottom mat in there. I wash OH's fluroescent work vest in there, but I use the 'silk' setting, which is my default option when the item is a bit risky.

Cakedoesntjudge · 29/05/2017 12:54

I will try the duvet-in-washing-machine at some point this week once my mountain of laundry is diminished and keep you posted! If not this could be my perfect excuse to invest in a steamer, I've been looking for a reason to for ages.

BusyBee2017 · 29/05/2017 13:40

Heheh yes perfect excuse
