Does anyone use diluted fabric softener to clean/damp dust/fragrance fabrics?

Title says it all really! Have heard few people say they use diluted fabric softener either in a bowl or spray bottle for cleaning/freshening??

I have recently read this, I read about sprinkling laundry powder into a carpet and brushing in then hoovering up. I didn't do that as my carpet is really new but I did do it on my sofa! Sprinkled it over, brushed it and hoovered the dust back up. If anything it just made it smell nice
