Towels will be like sandpaper. Clothes ain't too bad. I just buy asda smart price fabric conditioner it's under a quid

BarchesterFlowers · 04/05/2017 06:42

No, I don't use it and nothing is like cardboard. V bad for the environment. Our towels go in the drier to soften the up when they are nearly dry, everything else is fine.

fairylightseverywhere · 04/05/2017 06:45

We haven't used it for years. We don't have crunchy clothes!

SallyGinnamon · 04/05/2017 06:45

Exactly what Barchester said. I've never used the stuff and my clothes are soft.

You can tumble towels to make them fluffy but IMO they don't dry as well like that.

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 04/05/2017 06:46

I can't use it. Allergic. No issues with cardboard here!

SocksRock · 04/05/2017 06:47

I've never used it and everything is fine. Towels soften with 10min in the tumble dryer if necessary, but even line dried ones are ok

Mumteedum · 04/05/2017 06:48

White vinegar works. You can put essential oil in to make smell nice

DubiousCredentials · 04/05/2017 06:58

I think it depends on how hard the water in your area is. My clothes are rough and cardboardy if I don't use fabric softener. Plus they spark at me when I get them out of the tumble dryer Shock We have hard water.

mummytime · 04/05/2017 06:59

I haven't used it since my second child as they were very allergic. My clothes are fine. Towels far better after tumble drying (I sometimes use Lakeland dryer balls) than with fabric conditioner IMHO.

Eastpoint · 04/05/2017 07:00

Live in London & have never used it. No problems.

Footle · 04/05/2017 07:00

If you're in a soft water area you it's pointless anyway. If your water is hard, could you afford to install a proper water-softener?
We're in a soft water area and I don't miss either fabric or hair conditioner.

silentpool · 04/05/2017 07:04

I use vinegar or washing soda instead. So nice having clothes which smell clean but without the overpowering conditioner smell!

We live in a hard water area and don't have a tumble dryer. Both children are allergic, so we don't have a choice, but I don't miss it.

TupperwareTat · 04/05/2017 07:10

I dont use it.

I use Aerial powder for sheets/towels.

Aerial liquid for wool etc.

My clothes no longer feel squeeky or smell strong. Also I read its really flammable.

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday · 04/05/2017 07:13

We are in a hard water area and I haven't used it for about 5 years.

I do tumble dry the towels though, as they are the only thing that aren't soft and lovely.

TupperwareTat · 04/05/2017 07:13

Also there are certain chemicals in it that are harmful to asthmatics.

ems137 · 04/05/2017 07:13

What about the smell though?

I love getting my clothes out of the drawer and smelling the fabric softener on them. To me, it says they're clean and fresh.

Do you guys have alternatives to suggest?

Sunseed · 04/05/2017 07:16

I'very taken to using a slosh of Zoflora instead of conditioner for the smell.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/05/2017 07:17

I haven't used it in about 20 years despite living in a hard water area. I haven't got any suggestions regarding smell though, the fragrance was one of the reasons I stopped using it as I prefer my laundry unscented.

metalmum15 · 04/05/2017 07:17

Sunseed Where do you put the zoflora?

Sunseed Where do you put the zoflora?

Theworldisfullofidiots · 04/05/2017 07:20

Don't use it. It is also meant to make towels less absorbant.

YoungBritishPissArtist · 04/05/2017 07:23

Apparently you're not supposed to use it with towels anyway as it affects their absorbency.
I haven't used it in years. I hate the artificial chemically smell!

picklemepopcorn · 04/05/2017 07:24

Ems when you haven't used it for a while, fabric softener stops smelling clean and fresh and starts smelling sickly and overpowering!
