I never use it. Everything is soft and fine.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/05/2017 07:27

Zoflora is ok to use as a disinfectant in with the detergent as it gets rinsed out but I really don't want my clean clothes coated with something classed as a skin irritant even if it is massively diluted.

Ecclesiastes · 04/05/2017 07:28

I've never used fabric conditioner - probably because I'm old enough to remember when it was invented. It's just always struck me as a pure rip-off product.

bushtailadventures · 04/05/2017 07:29

I don't use it, makes me wheeze. If other people use too much, that makes me wheeze too. If I remember, I put white vinegar in the conditioner drawer when I do the towels, but I don't remember very often and they are still fine.

I fine everything smells ok anyway, slight hint of washing powder (Asda Non Bio liquid) is clean enough.

Increasinglymiddleaged · 04/05/2017 07:30

I have never used it 'as standard'. Some fabrics can be static without it though so I use it occasionally. A bottle lasts me years though Smile. I have never, ever understood why people use it for everything.

Fruitcocktail6 · 04/05/2017 07:30

I never use it and my clothes are fine, I think it's a bit of a marketing gimmick really.

How does this white vinegar thing work? Sounds good!

Ginger782 · 04/05/2017 07:31

Another one here who uses white vinegar instead! It's great! There is no scent, just fill your fabric softener section with vinegar and off you go. Add a couple of drops of essential oil if you want a scent. Keeps towels soft Smile

cauliflowercheese14 · 04/05/2017 07:31

I've never used it but in a soft water area here. I use Persil nonbio powder and and love the faint smell of that and I dry outside wherever possible. Soften towels up in the the dryer for a minute sometimes but often don't bother even with that.

Nessie71 · 04/05/2017 07:42

I only asked because i was thinking to when i was growing up and never had it..going to give it a go.

Athrawes · 04/05/2017 07:46

I love a good crunchy towel. But I don't use it and whilst my towels are sadly not that crunchy, neither are my clothes cardboardey.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/05/2017 08:00

After not using it for so many years I now hate the feel of clothes that have been washed with it, they are weirdly floppy and the fragrance smells really artificial and unpleasant.

I use white vinegar with a couple of drops of essential oil. And a scoop of soda crystals in the drum.

chocatoo · 04/05/2017 08:18

Not used it for years. Makes no difference.

Nospringflower · 04/05/2017 08:19

Surely tumble drying costs more than a splash if fabric conditioner?

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/05/2017 08:25

I only tumble dry when I can't line dry, not for softening purposes.

PippaFawcett · 04/05/2017 08:37

I haven't used it for years after some clothes started to feel like there was a residue on them. Our clothes still smell clean from the washing powder, it is one less thing to buy, one less chemical going into the system from our house and our towels are fine - I see no down sides!

Summerisdone · 04/05/2017 09:03

I don't use it and haven't done for 2 years now as DS's skin ends up like sandpaper if I do. At first I worried that everything would come out horrible and rough but tbh it's really not that bad at all. The only thing that I do really notice is that the lovely smell has gone from my freshly washed clothes, they still smell nice but it's not quite as strong IYSWIM.

I have read online quite a few times that a tennis ball in the dryer will also make all your clothes come out soft but I've never tried it myself, mainly because my dog would chew it apart within minutes Grin

Footle · 04/05/2017 09:09

The worst thing about secondhand clothes is the smell of fabric conditioner.

Crumbs1 · 04/05/2017 09:11

I use 2in 1 tablets which are fine for softness and smell. Hate fluffy towels. I like nice crispy back scratching ones that get you properly dry.

LovingLola · 04/05/2017 09:16

Have a read of this.

Haven't used the vile stuff for about ten years now. I want my clothes to smell clean and of washing powder. Not the synthetic stinking Leonor I used to use just because I sort of thought that's what everyone did. My clothes last longer and certainly aren't hard. I hate smelling a mixture of Leonor and perfume on people

I can't use it and clothes are fine, we don't have a tumble drier either to soften them up.

namechange20050 · 04/05/2017 11:17

I don't use it. I live in a hard water area, don't have a tumblr dryer and nothing comes out dry or scratchy. My washing just smells clean. I really dislike the overpowering scent of fabric softener.
