Has anyone used AO (let's go!) for an appliance?

I need a new washing machine. I would normally go to John Lewis for anything big like that but they don't have what I want. AO does. but i've been so scarred by the Currys and Dixons and Argoses that I suspect everyone is a bit shit. AO any good?

I have a washing machine from AO. They were brilliant. The first team who installed it did it wrong but customer service were brilliant and got someone out straight away

MagentaRocks · 29/03/2017 10:43

We got a washing machine and oven from them and paid for installation and to have the old ones taken away. They are great. The delivery guys were brilliant, installed both, took the old away and were polite and efficient.

They nearly always have deals/vouchers/promos going on as well, never just pay full price without a quick google.

I bought something, paid for it, went back to the website not 10 minutes later and it was £20 cheaper! So called up and they refunded me the difference.

The warranty call is a PITA though - they start off by suggesting its part of the service, free, and only eventually get round to telling you it'l cost x amount - in my case, the x was more than the machine was worth, over the lifespan I am expecting for it!

I also didn't pay for the install service and wished I had. They were in and out in about 90 seconds flat, leaving the new machine slap bang in the middle of the kitchen door. Took me a good hour to move old one out, unwrap new one and move it in. Up to you whether your time is worth the cost of the install fee.

MagentaRocks · 29/03/2017 10:53

You can get other people to install cheaper but for the price difference I think it is worth getting it all done in one go so that you are not stuck with appliances being delivered one day and then waiting for an installer another day. We got £40 off each appliance which more than covered the price difference in getting a cheaper installer.

I love AO too.

The warranty call afterwards is from a company called Domestic & General I think? Often the same company which calls you after appliance purchases from other places too like Currys or Very.
I don't mind as I simply tell them to call again in one year, after my warranty expires. To their credit, they do and their insurance is great. I paid just under £4 a month (after my warranty was finished) and when my two year old oven broke it was repaired within 2 days at no cost. My yearly £40 premium saved me a £120 repair bill (I asked the engineer how much it would have cost) it's worth it so I don't mind AO giving my details to D&G insurance.

AO were ok but the delivery was over 4 hours late with our fridge freezer

We prefer to get our local euronics shop to get appliances for us now, personal service, match the online price

Delivery is arranged within 15 mins timescale

Much easier to deal with a small local shop and they come to repair any machines SmileSmileSmileSmile

squiggletea · 29/03/2017 17:57

I was just going to leave a comment about Euronics too! Ours is fab. You get to deal with people instead of computers!!

I've bought from AO for my parents a few times, and it has been brilliant. They even took away a very large and dodgy chest freezer when I'd ordered a tiny under counter freezer - it was cheaper to do that than get it removed any other way!

e1y1 · 29/03/2017 18:07

Yes a good few times.

Their ordering and delivery service is excellent.

Their after sales service - not so brilliant, but again every issue is different as is the person handling it.

a.o are terrible !!. Had trouble with delivery and customer service is shocking !. They need to make it mega clear when ordering that if you miss their call they will not attempt to deliver the product and you'll be left having to rearrange delivery .I called the driver back 3 times within 15 minutes of the missed call, but he never answered. And now I've got to take another day off work unpaid to have the product delivered tomorrow ! .I would never recommend them or use them again. I do most my shopping online and never trouble with any other companies. a.o are the worst !!

MitziK · 13/07/2019 20:25

Had several things delivered by them - the only time one was late was when half the country was under a foot of snow.

We'll use them again - the only other place where I haven't been mucked around with delivery is Co-op Electrical.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 14/07/2019 14:53

Yes we ordered a fridge on Wednesday and it got delivered on Friday.

myusernameisnotmyusername · 14/07/2019 14:55

Sorry didn't realise was a zombie thread!

OldSpeclkledHen · 18/07/2019 20:10

Yes defo
Currys didn't want to sell me a washing machine.
In the time it took us to drive from Curry's to my flat (10 mins max?) I'd ordered, paid (on finance too!) and arranged next day delivery with AO
