How much did you pay for a decorator for an average sized front room?

Friend of mine wants to get her front room decorated but her dh works long hours and she has a young baby. She's toying with the idea of getting a decorator in but the idea of cost is scaring her a bit.

Any ideas of ballpark figures to decorate a single room (or maybe both front and dining room as it's a through room)? Rough guesstimates are fine - she's just like a guideline as to whether it's worth getting some quotes without making a fool of herself first!

Thank you, oh all-knowing and bountiful mumsnetters

Honest tradesmen find that they can not competitively bid projects against non-registered tax paying labour.

As a tax payer myself I would only get some-one who has a ligit business and if that means paying more to get a reliable professional, person in to decorate then I would pay the extra and budget accordingly.

I agree get a few quotes/estimates. I normally go with the one in the middle TBH.

What to pay? Depends on area and who you get.

Personal recommendations are always good.
