What is the stingiest shit you do for no reason?

I'm wondering what people do that is really stingey but they honestly don't need to?

We are able to afford new dish cloths and sponges but I always wash them in the washing machine Blush until they shrink to nothing or the sponge looks like someone ate it.

My dad used to put cheap kitchen spray in my mums expensive bottle and she never knew 😂

My husband waters down hand soap? That really annoys me.

Ok I'll think of more. But tell me what you lot do!

Returning something I've bought so I can buy again now that the sale / other discount has started. Did this week with PJs for DS. Bought them last weekend at the M&S 20% off weekend but now in sale and ever so slightly cheaper. Like...couple of pounds cheaper...which is less than my bus fare into town. It's the principle though!!!

Also yes to cutting up / squeezing every last drop out of toothpaste, foundation tubes etc etc.

Mermaidinthesea · 08/03/2017 18:19

haha I also wash washing up sponges in the machine and when they have had it I use them for sponge painting craft projects. All cardboard is kept for my job which is making orthotics and I use the cardboard for taking templates.
Egg boxes I plant seeds in.
Definitely cut the top off toothpaste and cream.

Ketchup and water is grim Shock

Also a bit Shock at reusing water in hot water bottle, sorry!

mowgelijeffs · 08/03/2017 18:20

I get the toothepaste idea etc, I am asking about stingy shit that is supposed to be funny not about an environmental thing. From an environmental perspective there are lots of things I do like I wash my son in a laundry basket to save water. I use his bath water, I recycle, I re use tin foil etc. But we waste so much food :( I want funny stories not things to make us all feel guilty 💃🏽

My friend used to rip her extra-slim filter tips for her roll ups in half.

It's about 60p for 120 of them.

Tobuyornot99 · 08/03/2017 18:24

Not me, but my Nan makes a tin of salmon feed about 6 people by bulking it out with cucumber, sweetcorn, anything to hand. By the end there is practically no salmon left at all. This makes her very proud!

Wash plastic bags to use again Blush i've been doing it for years .but I hardly ever need to buy freezer bags.. Its a habit I caught from my mum..

I also use Tea bags more than once - maybe 3 time (only if its just for me and only in the same few hours ) ..they make more than one mugful anyway

Mummysh0rtlegs · 08/03/2017 18:28

After I've eaten a kebab with loads of chilli sauce.

Laska5772 · 08/03/2017 18:29

I wash my son in a laundry basket to save water. Now that is weird ! How old is he? ever thought about just popping him straight into the washing machine Grin

Mummysh0rtlegs · 08/03/2017 18:30

Have now read the thread.. ;)

Washing out ziplock bags, tipping the bin into a black sack until the black sack is full and then changing the liner. Reusing foil. Freezing left over grated cheese in a big bag in the freezer.

Laska5772 · 08/03/2017 18:31

mowgeiljeffs sorry, you have leftover WINE???????!!Shock ( what is this strange thing? )

thebakerwithboobs · 08/03/2017 18:34

I make pies out of everything so that nobody complains it's yesterday's dinner. Italian pie is a favourite in this house....it's left over bolognese with puff pastry 😂

mowgelijeffs · 08/03/2017 18:35

Laska, no only when there is less then a glass of wine left. This is because my husband sits beside me on the sofa judging me for having a "second" glass of wine on a Tuesday, no matter the size of the first one!

The laundry basket is a buckety thing. It's bigger then his baby bath and his cage he sits in fits in it so it saves water instead of having to fill the bath up past his belly. He's ten months and huge now compared to when he was born at 4lbs.

Baker 😂👏 I made ox tail last week. We ate all the ox tail but the sauce was amazing so I added mince meat and made it into a pasta bake. Nobody noticed 🍷🌭

I'm using up last years sun cream as a body lotion ATM.

Whisky2014 · 08/03/2017 18:46

I don't get the point of reusing water for hot water bottle? As in...unless you piss when you shower then your 2 litres of water for the bottle is NOTHING compared to a toilet flush!

Mummysh0rtlegs · 08/03/2017 18:51

Last years sun cream is probably fine for this year as sun lotion. It's good for 2-3 years and has an expiration date on a lot of the time now.www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1970.aspx?CategoryID=70&SubCategoryID=169

phoenix1973 · 08/03/2017 18:53

I park 10 mins away to avoid parking charges.

FetchezLaVache · 08/03/2017 19:23

Try vinegar to get the last few crucial splatters of ketchup out of the bottle - as long as you don't go crazy with it, it's much more pleasing on the palate than watered-down ketchup.

meringue33 · 08/03/2017 19:27

This will out me but my mum and dad only ever use half a sheet of kitchen roll at one time. I have OCD and it drives me mad to see half a sheet flapping there! It's not so much stinginess on their part more obsessive environmentalism.

ZilphasHatpin · 08/03/2017 19:28

I use bath foam in a pump dispenser as shower gel.

rosybell · 08/03/2017 19:31

I break my dishwasher tablets in half - the dishes are always just as clean!

StumblyMonkey · 08/03/2017 19:55

Everything gets sold on eBay. I also sell anything my parents and friends no longer want and go 50/50 with them after fees. Made £1k in three months doing this

Any clothing that is damaged and can't be eBayed is either saved for future sewing projects to re-use the fabric or cut up to make dusters.

I totally don't need to do these things and waste money in other areas but these make me feel very thrifty!
