Best way to clean hard wood floors

Do you sweep/hoover and then mop or just mop?
We now have hard flooring in the kitchen, dining area and lounge. It's just taken me ages to sweep, hoover up the piles of dust and dirt and then mop.
I can't be doing that every day.

Microfiber flat broom daily. Hoover when necessary. Mop twice a week, more in the kitchen.

Make sure you have good mats at entrance doors for feet wiping. I hoover once a week and mop as needed (less frequently) with an ecloth mop. We have white quartz look Amtico in our kitchen - not our choice - which is the only one which ever actually looks dirty.

Good shout fudge. Thank you
I do have good mats but they need a wash. I'll take them to the launderette this week.

Our old house had all hard floors downstairs. I used to vacuum, then mop. One thing I found was that cylinder vacs do much better than uprights on hard floors. The spinning brushroll in an upright is great for carpet but tends to scatter bits on hard floors and can also scratch the floor. The cylinders with the pedal to lower the brushes down for hardfloors worked the best. It actually sucked all the dirt up instead of just sending it flying across the floor.

I use this cleaning squeegee on our hard floor and honestly it's the best thing i've ever used.

Thanks for the replies. Thegreenmile, I've ordered this from Lakeland. Is it similar do you think?
