Decent but not £££ wardrobe/chest of drawers

I need a new chest of drawers and wardrobe for my 9 year old dd. I've looked at IKEA, and whilst there are a couple of possibilities, they are not quite right. Where else can I look for reasonably priced furniture that isn't awful quality. Anything we have must be able to be fixed to the wall as I'm still getting over her pulling a wardrobe on top of herself about a year ago (horrifying). Probably looking to spend no more than £400 altogether. Thanks!

Second hand?

LowDudgeon · 02/12/2016 13:12

Is IKEA Hemnes no good? The drawers are really well-built & sturdy & come with a wall strap.

I admit I don't much like the matching wardrobe though Grin Do they have to be matching?

I would look on eBay. But you can get nice wooden furniture from Asda. Ikea isn't very good quality.

Marks and Spencer are doing a deal on furniture just now (buy 2 pieces get 20% off) - the LOFT collection is pretty reasonable and is delivered and built for you. We just got a wardrobe, tall boy, chest of drawers, bed and bedside table for a very reasonable price. Not the fanciest bedroom furniture but well built and perfect for her room.

I do like the Hemnes chest of drawers - it just doesn't look that big with only have three drawers. The one she has now has two smaller drawers at the top which work well for socks and tights. I know there is a taller one but it looks very tall for her (she isn't the tallest 9 year old) and I'd like her to be able to use the top of it for bits and bobs. Awkward aren't I? Grin

Have looked at eBay but nothing caught my eye. I'll look at Asda, thanks x

This is lovely - sold wood, delivered assembled. They have various designs in a 2 + 3.

You might be able to find a decent second-hand wardrobe locally? I suspect Cotswold wardrobes would be a bit too expensive.

These are ready assembled & the drawers are t&g - it doesn't say what the carcasses are made of. They'll do different trim on request. Delivery free only within 60 miles (W Yorks) but shouldn't be too bad.

One more before I go - this set available in different colours & deliver to the room! Free up to 60 miles, £20 60-100 miles, £30 100 miles +

Funny how they're all in W Yorks. Hope you'll find one you like anyway. We have a low (child's wardrobe) which we bought 2nd-hand locally for about £80, but I had been looking at exactly the same thing from a similar eBay seller for about £150 new, & it's really well-made & sturdy (in fact getting it home was a bloody nightmare, I'd happily have paid for delivery to room Grin)

Gosh, that's nice too! Thanks! Only concern is mirrors - dd like to cartwheel in her bedroom Confused I'll definitely have a closer look tonight though! Thanks for taking the time to look. It sounds as though you are the person to go to for good deals! x

You probably don't have to have the mirrors - might even be cheaper without Smile

& definitely safer with a cartwheeler!

bubblymix · 03/12/2016 13:08

You can get some really good quality furniture here
