When do you put on the dishwasher and how often do you use it?

In the house I generally switch it on once a day after dinner in the evening. There are always a few bits left over, mainly pots and baking trays amongst other bits of crockery which I can't squeeze in. So I usually come down to a sink of dirty dishes in the morning Angry

Just wondering what you do (only want to hear from people not like me! Grin)

Every evening after dinner.
I hand wash a bit throughout the day too, I don't like putting glasses in the dishwasher, there's a couple of mugs I hand wash, the milk frother, cafetière, and a couple of big pans and mixing bowls that take up too much room.
DH empties it in the morning and washes up anything that has appeared over night or that was left to soak.

Notso · 11/08/2016 07:27

Oh there's six of us BTW at the moment 6 for breakfast, 5 for lunch and 6 for dinner.

Sooverthis · 11/08/2016 07:31

Mine goes on in the morning after breakfast so I use free solar power dh is supposed to do any pots and pans that's another story from the night before when he gets up and I usually empty it before my lunch and then that goes in. My dishwasher is integrated it's no where near as good as my old freestanding one even though it cost twice the money.

RedMapleLeaf · 11/08/2016 08:44

There are two of us. It goes on when full roughly every other day. I avoid washing anything by hand if I can help it.

NarcyCow · 11/08/2016 09:14

Probably three times a week. The childminder does all the kids meals so during the week it's just dinner stuff for DH and I (we don't eat breakfast).

I can't handwash because I have contact dermatitis which reacts really badly to water and sweaty rubber gloves and talc, so I generally just throw everything in and if something doesn't survive, tough! If I leave handwashing for DH it could sit there for two or three weeks so that's not much help.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 14/08/2016 08:53

Goes on at night, and if there's anything left over it goes in the sink which has a fitted chopping board on top, so you can't see it. 😀

If there's anything like a big roasting tin which won't go in and I CBA to wash it then, it goes back in the oven till the next day.

Sofabitch · 14/08/2016 08:54

Twice a day. After dinner and then in the morning we stuff in all the bits that didn't fit the night before.

I think i need a bigger house with maybe 4 dishwashers

When it's full but preferably when the sun is shining (solar panels) and not before bed in case it starts a fire in the night. I have two dishwashers so room for pans, serving dishes etc. I switched to Pyrex baking trays so they go it too, I just have to hand wash non stick frying pans and cast iron pots.

BluePitchFork · 14/08/2016 09:05

when it's full.
usually every other day after dinner.
never when no one is around.

Usually once a day in the evening, but yesterday it was on at least twice, as it was the day before because we were baking. It depends. On Christmas Day, it is often on twice to get rid of all the pots and pans. Some days it is not on at all, because there is so little in it that it isn't worth putting on.

5tardusty · 14/08/2016 09:13

It goes on right before bed so all the drinks can go in. I hate having extra unwashed bits! Gets unloaded as we are making dinner on a work day, or mid morning at weekends.

My sister puts hers on after dinner then unloads it before bed. I could not be arsed with that.

Tubbyinthehottub · 14/08/2016 09:42

Veryproud - I don't know! I just thought dishwasher uses electricity so put it on while the sun is out!

Lweji · 14/08/2016 09:46

It's only me and ds and we have lots of leftovers, but when it's full, or beginning to smell.
I tend to put it on overnight for the cheaper electricity. And I delay the starting time until after midnight.
I usually empty it the next morning.

It's usually twice a week only

P1nkP0ppy · 14/08/2016 09:49

When it's full, random times. Could be twice in one day or every other day.

BluePitchFork · 14/08/2016 09:51

there are different kinds of solar panels. the ones which heat up water and the ones who produce electricity.
if you have the hot water kind you can plumb the dishwasher to the hot water pipe to safe energy. it's the heating water/air that uses most elec.

CaitAgusMadra · 14/08/2016 09:58

Every second night before bed. There are 4 of us, 2 adults, 1 toddler and 1 baby. Pots and pans mainly done by hand

Blue and Veryproud - my panels are for electricity.
I used to put mine on before bed until I attended one of those scary fire awareness courses at work. And before I got the panels.

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/08/2016 10:35

I avoid putting dishwasher on at bed time as I have read too many warnings re risk of fire at night. But other than that it goes on when full. At least daily, often twice daily. Four of us in the house.

Thethingswedoforlove · 14/08/2016 10:35
