Sealant around bath has gone black - how can I stop it happening?

I'm not sure what I do wrong, but in each house I've lived, the sealant around the bath has eventually gone all black and mildewed and I've had to cut it out with a Stanley knife and replace it.
I'm no obsessive cleaner, but my bathroom isn't dirty by any means and is cleaned regularly. We've got a fan that comes on with the light, and the window is always open.
It's clearly something I do / don't do, as it's happened at other properties too.
Please give me your suggestions as it looks dreadful.

I find the trick is to make sure the bath and tiles are wiped down after every use, bit of a pain but its easier in the long term. Just a quick wipe over with an anti bac wipe.

My cleaner is obsessed with keeping our sealant and grouting clean!

Something she does is to take a wodge of loo roll or kitchen roll, soak it in bleach, and press it on top of the sealant, then leave it there for as long as possible. Seems to do the trick.

I don't think you can stop this happening. My husband uses Cillit Bang on ours and it has never stopped the problem. Mould cleaner might though - but listen to wiser voices than mine!

You just need HG mound spray and it will sort it out painlessly.

I've never stopped it either, and even when it isn't bad it goes cruddy around corners and where it meets the bath, even with scrubbing. I find it easier to get the plumber to cut it out and replace every 18 months or so when he services the boiler, so it always looks pristine.

I agree with Celeste - I've never had this problem. I always dry down the shower and bath after use so it must be that.

The HG mould stuff is on offer at B&Q atm so I'm going to try it. Thanks for the tip!

My dad huffs and puffs in a very disapproving way if he ximes ti ny house and finds the bathroom not wiped down... Or the plant soil dry. Mixed messages or what!

If he comes to my house

I use cillit bang black mould cleaner (the one in the black bottle) It smells like chlorine.

If you want to spend less we find Astonish mould spray just as good as HG and is only £1!

How funny dangly - just after I posted my comment, my friend told me about astonish. Much cheaper than the others.

I do the same as BIWI's cleaner. Read about it here on mumsnet and thought i'd give it try before ripping out old sealant ss i had nothing to loose. Just used bleach from Aldi and kitchen roll, soaked them and sat it on the sealant round bath and left it.
Came back half an hour later and was gobsmacked. It easy like brand new. It's my go to now.
