Is there right way to hang clothes on a washing line?

Do you hang clothes from the hem or the shoulder/waistband? Does it matter?

DH hung the washing out one way (pegged at hems) and I went out and changed it to the other way, because it felt wrong the way he had done it. I am aware that was a crazy thing to do, but it has made me wonder... is there a right way?

I find if you hang towels out until they are nearly dry and then just finish them off in the tumble they are still soft but you have saved (lots of) electricity...
I have a rain cover on my outside line (rotary drier) so even in quite bad weather I stick things out that take a long time to dry - like towels - to take the worst of the water out.
And I often bring all the washing in slightly damp and finish it in the tumble - so I don't need to iron and it is dry enough to go away.

But you haven't said exactly how it goes away, unlucky. My American acquaintance was absolutely adamant that towels, for example, should be stored folded in thirds. (I'm not sure if she used any of mine during the whole course of her stay. Wink)

And if you read Martha Stewart, it looks as if she had - at least some - grounds for her belief.

My German ex, too. If only he'd been so fussy about the rest of the house...

I hang shirts (second to top button done up) and tshirts etc on hangers and peg the hanger in place so I can take it straight from the line to the cupboard if not too creased. But I am a lazy wench.

cozie ...don't know if I should admit this but I kondo'd my linen cupboard ... Blush
I've got shallow (underbed) storage boxes on the shelves and the linen is vertical folded in those...so you can just pull one out and see what you have -and it does keep it a lot tidier...
I saw a funny video on you tube ...can't find it now - an American woman organising her linen closet - she bought new towels and sheets etc, had guest towels and bedding etc. She tied all the sets (Sheets, covers etc for each bed) with ribbons...and she had this beautiful massive cupboard with 5 things in it ...one set, space, another set, space - nothing piled up....
Not only would I not be able to keep that up but it reminded me about when I told DD2 (then 5ish) about the fly lady and polishing your sinks ....'every time you notice it all day and its all clean and shiny you feel like you've achieved something ...to which she said 'well... she must live on her own' Grin

That girl will go on to great things! Grin

PS - your American woman on video sounds like another Martha Stewart devotee. Visit the MS site and view the beribboned piles of guest towels! Grin

PPS - all folded in thirds! Wink

Oh dear I've just watch the MS video how to organise your linen closet ....not quite the same as my plastic boxes with single, double, towels written on then in black marker ...now feeling very inadequate ...Grin
