Woo hoo! It's the second Bullet Journal thread! For the benefit of newbies - Bullet Journal is a brilliant way to organise your whole life in a lovely notebook. Perfect for anyone who has tried every app and every scheduling system but just can't seem to get on top of things. Also perfect for lovers of beautiful stationery and especially for people who like lists!

Sooo - get out your fineliners and your washi tape! Stroke your Leuchtturms! And get all that stuff that's whizzing round in your head out onto paper instead!

zing Shock

This month I've done March calendar, with the numbers going down, on one page with a couple of inches on the right hand side of the page sectioned off. This has my monthly rota in it. The right page is my monthly task list. The calendar is great for appointments but I wanted something for housework that also incorporated my rota, something a bit more visual so from next month the right page will be a second calendar. This one will be squares instead of lines and will incorporate my rota and housework.

Last year my house got out of control and I found it overwhelming to deal with. I discovered that if I put jobs in my diary I was more likely to get them done and I want to do something similar in my bujo wrt housework. My shifts vary in hours, more so this month, so my shifts could last from 2hrs to 15hrs. I want to put my shifts in different colours eg blue for morning, green for evening, yellow for sleep, purple for short (2hr), red for all day (colours arbitary atm). Then I can see which days I won't be doing anything because I'm at work all day and which days I can do the bigger jobs, eg, bathroom cleaning.

I'm thinking that I could do (non housework) monthly tasks on the lefthand side of the next double page and then start daily tasks on the right hand side.

Gah Jemster! I replied earlier but my post seems to have vanished! I don't have a BuJo page for meal planning but I have started writing what's for dinner on my daily journal entry.

I shop once a week (usually Monday or Tuesday ). I sit down and make a list beforehand - plan what to cook for dinner on each day (but often swap them around ) and make a shopping list based on that and the things I know I've run out of. That's about it really.
I have a big chest freezer, so I can plan a long way in advance if I want.

This is my new 3 monthly planner. Full days and half days are blocked in and individual appts are in a circle with the number explained below.

Will see how it works.

Blank new weekly planner for next week using my new stamps. Think Stamps will be used monthly just to may a few nice layouts. Don;t have much patience for lots of prettyfying.

ANd yes a bujo coffee meet sounds essential Devora

I decided I don't like my monthly layout. I prefer my 8 days to a page layout but running out of space. Think in April I will try a 7 day to a double spread layout and see how that goes.

I have repositionable tags sticking out of my journal for the pages I need everyday :-

  1. Meal planner and freezer tags for food related to dos.
  2. List tag is for my shopping list
  3. Daily log tag for my 'do as soon as possible' to do list, which I migrate daily.
  4. Weekly planner tag for my 'events and related do on a certain day tasks' to do list.

The tags work well and I move them to new pages as needed but still updating index as I go along.

I am also working on my stock lists, which are what I should have in reserve in various areas i.e. Shampoo and conditioner in bathroom, tins of beans in the cupboard, milk in the freezer etc

Then I will combine 'things missing from the stock list' and 'things needed for next week meals' into a weekly shopping list !

I might be over thinking it, but I do struggle with running out of things and hopefully this way I won't any more :)

Hello everyone

I feel like I know you all!

I got sucked in by the Bujo title of the second thread, then took several days to read every post from the first thread...

I love the idea of a Bujo. Was convinced very early but fortunately read lots of your early posts before buying a book.

I'm fed up of the crappy cheapo notebooks and pens I use for work so I've bought a lovely turquoise Leuchtturm with dots and some funky coloured Bic pens (my awful handwriting is best with them)

I've planned my pages...am just waiting for the delivery now!

I'm using lots of your ideas. The only one I haven't seen is a migraine tracker, which unfortunately I really need.

Can't wait to start!

mercifulTehlu · 07/03/2016 07:54

Welcome, MoonDuke! Sorry to hear about the migraines. I should do an allergy tracker really - I get phases of unexplained hives, for months at a time. No idea what causes them.

Yes I was going for lined (I always have squared at work cos that's all there is and I hate it) but then I saw various habit trackers etc and thought I'd go for dots!

And I bought a pen loop Grin

Currently getting 2 migraines a week atm which is awful. Hopefully new meds will have an effect...

Vistaverde · 07/03/2016 11:44

Welcome MoonDuke two migraines a week is a lot. I hope the new meds start to take effect.

Tea I'm glad I'm not the only one who does that.

I was feeling a bit stressed last night so had a bit of a brainstorm of things that needing doing. Whilst I now have a long list a lot of them are quick wins so hoping to get most of them cleared today. I already feel a lot better about things.

Iggi999 · 07/03/2016 13:14

Have been sick all weekend so planning a session now with my bujo- it's sunny for the first time in forever, so will do it in the garden!
Hope you are all having good (well-planned) days Smile

MoonDuke · 07/03/2016 13:40

I've just been looking up the official way of BuJo-ing again and I've seen that you only copy over tasks from month to month, not day to day like some PP seem to do?

That's better for me, because I rarely do the task the day I think of it (if I did I wouldn't need a BuJo!)

Delivery is meant to be Thursday...I am getting soooo impatient!

SoupDragon · 07/03/2016 14:04

I think you can do whatever works for you which is the beauty of it.

Jemster · 07/03/2016 17:30

I'm not doing very well. I started off last week with such good intentions but ended up with such a big mega list & so many other lists that now I feel overwhelmed by the amount I have to do!
I can't seem to prioritise & due to health condition I get tired really easily & so still end up achieving nothing!

Any tips please for
a) actually remembering to look at the bujo
b) prioritising
c) motivation when knackered

Iggi999 · 07/03/2016 18:02

Keep it handy. I find having the pen in the loop really helpful as I'm more likely to write in it.
Have a weekly session to go through the monthly lists. Sunday morning with a cuppa works for me. And then a shorter time each day.
Would love to hear any other ideas!

Jemster · 07/03/2016 21:04

Thanks Iggi, just ordered the pen loop!

Greymalkin · 08/03/2016 06:24

Jemster I think that whilst the BuJo is primarily an organisational tool for most of us, if it is fun too then that could keep you motivated to use it.

Do you have fun things in yours? I have two pages which are a collage of magazine clippings, a double spread of books I'm reading for the 50 book challenge thread, a wishlist of music I want to download. I do the odd drawing next to certain days (a daffodil for St David's Day, a leaping frog for 29th Feb)

Would that help?

MrsNutella · 08/03/2016 09:18

Good morning. I have been stalking the threads and really love the BuJo idea. I have dug out an old notebook. But I don't like the paper in it... It's annoying but I will see how I go first and then invest in a nice new notebook when j have got the hang of things.

I have loads of tasks which is what I am hoping the BuJo will help with. I've already created a collection so that I can sort out my tasks and tasks for my in the planning stages business Grin

Apart from the BuJo website is there anywhere else that people would recommend looking for tips?
I know there is loads on Pinterest but I will loose weeks the whole day if I go on there!

Devora · 08/03/2016 10:36

I have now acquired an Orla Kiely pen which fits beautifully into the grey pen loop on my orange leuchtturm. I may not do calligraphy and washi tape, but I reckon that puts me quite high up on the poncetasticity league table Grin

Vistaverde · 08/03/2016 11:32

Welcome Mrs Nutella I'm in a similar position using a notebook I already had at home. The lines are a bit too wide for my liking but if I stick with this then I will treat myself to a nice posh notebook. The advantage though is that I have not been too bothered if I make mistakes and change things in it which I would be with a nicer notebook.

www.bohoberry.com/ blog is good for bullet journal articles. www.mybulletjournal101.com/ has some interesting things on it but the author hasn't updated it for a while.

AtiaoftheJulii · 08/03/2016 13:16

I think this one's good, especially if you're worried about it not being beautiful or perfect.

AtiaoftheJulii · 08/03/2016 13:18

Er yeah, this one!

MoonDuke · 08/03/2016 13:48

Ooooh more links to look at! I'm not on pinterest so I think I can't see stuff (it kept asking me to login and I don't want to)

I still haven't got my LT however just looking at bullet journals seems to have made me more efficient and I've been doing tasks from my scrappy post-its, possibly to have less to write in my BuJo?!

Have thought of another 3 lists:

  1. a prepper's list
Yup, I'm a prepper, but it would be good to have a handy list of what's in my OFRS etc. with dates of when medicines/food expire

  2. in case of emergency list
I live abroad and somewhere I've noted the various different emergency numbers/poison centre numbers/etc. etc. It would be good to have them in my BuJo

  3. in case of terrible event list
Yup, sounds awful but DH and I have exchanged excel spreadsheets on who to contact should the worst arrive (cos I don't have his family's/friends contacts in my phone)

prettygirlincrimsonrose · 08/03/2016 13:55

Thank you so much for introducing me to the idea of a bullet journal. I read some of the original thread and it took me a bit of time to sort out a notebook (black Moleskine with squares), but I started using it about a week and a half ago and it really suits me. I'm still tweaking exactly how I use it, but having a habit tracker, a mixture of things to do/that I've done and notes for each day, and various collections and pages for forward planning is really helpful.

Iggi999 · 08/03/2016 18:45

Have just realised I have never used my index, I just flick through till I find things. Am I a bujo failure?

Shetland · 08/03/2016 20:21

I do that too iggi Although now I'm filling my BuJo up I'm starting to remember to look in the index after flicking through 60 pages and not finding what I'm looking for
