Wow Qwerky!!! That's astounding- and great!

SisterMoonshine · 03/03/2016 16:36

I am amazed the impact paperwork had on the house and didn't realise until it was Kondo'd what a difference it would make to sort it.
Did CDs quick today. Not that many discarded really as I really do revisit them (more than books). I may get myself one of those flip case things you can put them in. In fact I may get one or two of them for DVDs too.

Leviticus · 03/03/2016 18:23

Querky that's brilliant, happy to help!

It really is catching.

LadyMacnet · 03/03/2016 20:44

Querky that's incredible - now you just have to hold him to it!

QuerkyJo · 04/03/2016 08:19

He did it. He said I will do a couple of folders. I convinced him to bring everyhing downstairs and put it together. Also to gather up any other papers too.

I was impressed, he did it straight away and every thing is now in sacks ready to go to the tip.

frenchfancy · 04/03/2016 10:25

Wow querky that's brilliant. Talk about a step change!

Is other newbie signing in here. I was inspired by the Kondo thread in Chat last night and ended up doing a mini-Kondo on my underwear drawer at 10.30pm. Result - a beautifully organised drawer and 32 bras to go. I changed shape/size after DD (almost 2) so they don't fit any more. I actually only have 4 bras left!

I did find a charity that accept bra donations if anyone is interested. They will recycle old used bras and donate hardly used/new bras to women and girls in Africa. Smalls For All

I've downloaded the book onto my iPad and am looking forward to my new de cluttered lifestyle!

WonderOnTheUp · 05/03/2016 14:27

Hello! This is my first post on the thread - I've read the book this week and about to start on clothes! Is it ok to categorise for me, dh and ds or do the all need doing at once? (The thought of that amount of clothes is daunting!)

My house doesn't appear too bad on the surface but all the drawers and cupboards are a complete mess and so full. Looking forward to having a bit of order to the house Smile

StitchesInTime · 05/03/2016 14:42

Hi Wonder

When I've been kondo-ing, I've been focusing on my own stuff first. I've done some of the DCs too, as they're too young to really declutter things themselves (especially DS2, who's 2.5 yrs).

I've left DHs things strictly alone, as the book strongly advises against getting rid of other people's things for them.
I was initially sceptical about the notion that DH would be inspired by my kondo-ing and spontaneously start discarding items himself, but he's surprised me and has actually started discarding more stuff without any prompting from me (not in the recommended order, but never mind that for now).

madwomanbackintheattic · 05/03/2016 17:18

I have some free time today but not enough to tackle a major category, so I flicked through the last few pages and someone mentioned medicines. Perfect. It reminded me that in one of the bathroom cupboards I definitely have asthma/ inhaler type stuff and an infant spacer barrel thing (with a yellow teddy on it) that was prescribed for ds1 when he was 11 weeks old.

Reader, that ds is now 14 and out taking part in a basketball tournament.

Anyone think he's going to miss the yellow teddy spacer that made him scream the house down and fight with the strength of a grown man as a tiny newborn? Does anyone think it has ever sparked joy?

Does anyone think I am absolutely certifiable as we have moved house five times (including two international moves) in the intervening 14 years and somehow rationalised taking it with us every single time??

I might need a cup of tea before I start.

WonderOnTheUp · 05/03/2016 18:05

So I made a start today - coats, tops, trousers and dresses all sorted. That's the wardrobe and drawers looking a lot better! Had a wobble over a couple of dresses that I won't wear but seem too expensive to give away - I will ask around and see if anyone wants them first before I send them to the charity shop. Underwear, shoes and bags are next on the list but that will have to be tomorrow - this was tiring!!

MissBattleaxe · 05/03/2016 18:08

Hello, may I join you?

When I Kondo-ed my son's T shirt drawer I could not believe how much space it freed up. Also- how many T-shirts he had! I can now comfortably get at least 20 Tshirts in a small drawer. I fold them with the design on the outside so he doesn't unfold them all looking for the Star Wars one.

building2016 · 05/03/2016 18:34

I have my husband's acceptance of an electronics kondo. Shock Slowly gathering things with wires and cables over the next few days. This will be a big one.

Zippidydoodah · 05/03/2016 19:58

Kids' books done- with their help!

I've been stoping and starting for such s long time now. Some bits are still perfect from last time I did this. But I still think I might have to redo parts!

GrubbyWindows · 05/03/2016 22:40

madwoman clearly that spacer had some work to do teaching you... Something! I hope you thanked it for all its years of faithful service before letting it finally make its way in the world, tee hee.

Babieseverywhere · 05/03/2016 23:20

I am reading with interest. Currently sorting though my house random decluttering areas as I gather everything of like stuff together.

Yesterday collected 14 dress gowns for my four children, now I have 10 in the charity bag and 4 neatly on pegs.

I am also use a Bullet Journal to track what I am doing.

I am wondering if these Kondo folding and sorting methods will help me. I ordered the book from my library. Hopefully will get it in the next week or two.

Anything I should start doing before I read the book ?

madwomanbackintheattic · 06/03/2016 05:37

Lol grubby, the best I could do was to thank the bag of assorted unused meds for, um, doing their jobs well enough to not need all of them? Grin

In all honesty, I am exceedingly grateful for the care we received. He was so tiny and so poorly, and they had warned us that it was possible he would have lifelong asthma as the pneumonia in both tiny lungs was likely to cause scarring. And today his basketball team romped home in first place. Grin Maybe I was always meant to be thanking that spacer and sending it off today after all! Time to let it go... Wink

educatingarti · 06/03/2016 19:14

Just posting to reconnect with the thread. I found a use for my out of date olive oil. A bit of googling told me that the Romans used to use it as weedkiller, so on the dandelions it went. I'll let you know if it works.

Nan0second · 07/03/2016 08:05

Successful weekend where we Kondo'd food and dropped off ziffit package worth £44 to collect plus.
We also Kondo'd the mortgage! (A fact that I can't tell anyone in real life as it would be too boasty).
Very few komono categories left now before sentimental...

stiffstink · 07/03/2016 09:07

Congratulations on kondoing the mortgage Nan0

DS is at nursery this morning so once DD has stopped feeding I hope (hope!) to get showered and dressed then sort out DD's things that have to be put away then maybe fill a bag for the chazzer doorstep collection tomorrow. I am taking it easy after the c section so it saves me walking into town.

I'm watching the 4 ladies from Yorkshire who have just rowed the Atlantic on BBC Breakfast. They all say they've learnt that they need less stuff in their lives and more time with their families.

stiffstink · 07/03/2016 09:09

PS a friend came round at the weekend and she is trying to declutter so I wrote the details of the book down for her. I do this so often I might get some pre-printed cards with the info on!

SisterMoonshine · 07/03/2016 09:15

Enough tidy spots around the house to display my Mother's Day flowers nicely :)
Might do bakeware bits later today - it's one I've been dreading, but at the same time think it could free up lots of space. I am a bit of a sucker for buying nice little eathenware pots.

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 07/03/2016 15:25

I can't decide whether to fold (or continue to hang) cardigans (lightweight ones that I wear over dresses etc)
What does everyone else do??

Nan0second · 07/03/2016 16:03

I fold all cardigans / jumpers. Only dresses, skirts and shirts hung in this house now.

DiscordiaVanDiemen · 07/03/2016 16:13

Thankyou Nan I shall look forward to folding mine. I've already re-folded my tights and socks drawer just for the fun of it! Blush
