Bullet Journal

I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

BYO what do you mean a permanent collection? Sounds intriguing, maybe I should just google Midori instead of asking annoying questions! Grin

BYOSnowman · 10/02/2016 20:06

As I understand it - you get a wallet that you then keep 2 or 3 books in. So one of those could be for permanent lists and the other the diary aspect. So when the diary is full you still have the permanent collection book and don't have to copy it over.

Of course you could keep the permanent collection in a separate book but I guess the beauty of the bullet journal is having everything in one place

Visions is the person you should be talking to about midori!!

BendydickCuminsnatch · 10/02/2016 20:08

Ohhhhh ooooooh I see! That sounds ideal. So many choices!!

BYOSnowman · 10/02/2016 20:11

So my leuchtturm

Page 2-3 is my future log but what do I put on page 1!!! I don't want a key but I don't want to leave it blank!!!

ICJump · 10/02/2016 20:24

Put your name and number or email in it. Just in case you lose it.

UmJammerLammy · 10/02/2016 20:26

BYO how about leaving a spare page for extra Index space? I know mine will likely fill more than one page after a few months.

JasperDamerel · 10/02/2016 20:27

Jfdi doesn't work for me, because I am easily distracted and wander off doing small jobs and ignoring the vital ones, ending up late for my appointment without having paid the very important bill.

So I need to write down EVERYTHING.

BYOSnowman · 10/02/2016 20:29

Good idea for index

The lovely leuchtturm already has a page for name and address!!

Thank you both for suggestions. Feeling less angsty!!

UmJammerLammy · 10/02/2016 21:00

I've just added a page titled "Awaiting delivery" with a list of any online orders that I'm waiting to receive, along with the order date. I ordered 4 different things online today and usually it makes me anxious waiting for them as I worry I'll forget about one and it'll fall through a black hole. But now I can just tick them off when they arrive. I imagine this will be very useful for me at Christmas time!

SoupDragon · 10/02/2016 21:07

Similar to JFDI, I remember being told "touch things once". So, when you open post, you put the envelope in the recycling and file the contents appropriately, when you pour milk on something, you out the milk away straight afterwards. None of this putting it here just for a second and I'll deal with it properly shortly nonsense. I find myself muttering "touch things once..." to myself although I don't always remember.

midnightmoomoo · 10/02/2016 21:33

I like 'don't put it down, put it away' but sadly, as I'm the only one in the house who even attempts it, it's not as effective as it should be!!!

I have a light blue Leuchterm (?) and pen loop on the way....,. I'm really hoping they come tomorrow!!! Guess what I'll be doing over half term!

nattyknitter · 10/02/2016 21:58

On a similar vein to touch things once - have you heard the rule about paperwork? Works well in an office setting. Every time you pick up a letter or report etc, you put a dot in one corner. You soon realise you are picking up and shuffling the same piece of paer round inefficiently, so you start to deal with things more rapidly and then file it / shred it rather than sticking it in a drawer or pile to deal with it later. It gets depressing when you get to 5 or 6 dots and figure out you still haven't dealt with it.

For filing your family, give everyone a crate or basket and keep at the side of the stairs or somewhere out of the way. Every time you find something out of place that belongs to someone else, you put it in the basket and at the end of every day they have to take it upstairs and deal with it before bed.

Just been searching for journals online. I'm very close to finishing some training so have chosen a journal as my reward. I can even use some Christmas vouchers for it.

It's a large aqua moleskin. It will be used only for session notes for the new role as I have to do yearly reports on activity. I know it's not entirely Bujo but will keep those notes together for audits.

SaintEyning · 10/02/2016 23:09

My orange leuchtturm arrives tomorrow! I also bought a 10-colour selection of inkjoys a few weeks ago. So so cannot wait to start my index and planners. Moving house soon so all manner of pages to create. To quote the Lego movie characters, "everything is awesome" (or will be once it's all in my book)...

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 11/02/2016 06:38

I did a year at a glance for page 1, just for a quick reference. I wrote it all out but it would be way easier to print one out and stick it in.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2016 07:19

I think my task for today is to design the ultimate diary and planner pages that I can print and stick in.

aLeafFalls · 11/02/2016 08:11

Quick brag - I've just sent in my meter readings with 24 hours to spare before I'd have had an estimate. It just wasn't registering on my conscious mind. Put in in my daily journal and ta dahhhh!!! Done by 8:10.

My fuel consumption is down 11% on last year too, so another happy thing to start the day.

Thank you BuJo. 😄

mercifulTehlu · 11/02/2016 08:18

My fineliners should arrive today! I am getting all my housework out of the way today so I can spend a large part of tomorrow 'shopping my wardrobe '.

I can't afford new clothes atm and feel really stuck in a rut outfit-wise. I had a lightbulb moment after looking at Pinterest and realised I just don't get full use out of the clothes I have. I'm going to spend at least a morning messing about with putting different items and accessories together to see if I can revamp my look a bit. Don't get me wrong - I'm no fashionista but I feel like a boring scruff atm.

And I will write down my new outfit combos in my BuJo obvs.

Another newbie coming to say hi. I have been trying to reduce my reliance on my phone and the To do list app on my phone is great for the small daily tasks but not for future planning or larger projects. I have tried Evernote and others but they just don't work for me.

Having lurked on this thread and extensive googling I think this system could really work for me. I set up my own bullet journal on Tuesday using a notebook I found at home. Its not ideal as there are not enough lines on a page but if I stick with it then I am going to treat myself to a Leuchtturm.

I have started with a setup exactly the same as the video and will see how this works for me.

I am only a few days in but I am surprised by the number of lists I already have. I didn't realise just how much I was holding in my head.

aLeafFalls · 11/02/2016 08:52

vistaverde my head felt full to bursting with all the things to do, it's great to get them out. Instant stress relief.

I looked through other lists in other places and ended up buying a book from Amazon, which I had jotted down in my little notebook over a year ago.

FrozenAteMyDaughter · 11/02/2016 09:01

Another newbie inspired by this thread to get organised (finally). I took delivery of an emerald leuchtturm notebook last night but now realise I missed a trick by not also investing in a pen loop and special pen. Is the concensus that erasable is the way to go? I didnt dare write anything last night in case I made a mistake and ruined it. Which probably answers my question I guess.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2016 09:03

I actually don't like my erasable pens as they don't erase properly. I think I am going to ditch them and go with s mix of pencil, ordinary pen and post it notes.

SoupDragon · 11/02/2016 09:04

I'm not liking the Inkjoy pens much either - I find them blobby and they look pretty ugly [shallow]

Smurfing · 11/02/2016 09:15

Pilot p700 is the nicest black pen ever to write with and I've tried them all not amazing to look at, but not hideous. Micron drawing pens I use as coloured fineliners. Gel pens like jelly rolls if I want a bit of glittery shit (and free Haribo from cult pens Grin)

Smurfing · 11/02/2016 09:18

Also has anyone mentioned Coleto pens? Very good if you are colour coding and want them all in one pen that will still fit a pen loop. And you buy the ink colours separate so you can have custom colours not just the standard black, blue, red.
