Bullet Journal

I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

TheVeryThing I agree about work!
Can just imagine opening up my BJ in front of everyone and a load of sequins spilling out! Ha ha. Grin
Do love looking at the the pretty ones on Pinterest though.
(Can't work out how to put other posters names in bold!)

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 09/02/2016 12:39

Nellie just put name but without the spaces.

I'll be using mine for home and work too. I also work from home so can do whatever I want. Anything is better than the pile of post-it notes randomly (and it seems permanently!) stuck to the radiator next to my work bench Blush

I use a filofax so have the luxury of keeping the lists as I move on. Every so often I go through, check all of the tasks have been done or migrated and then I ditch a chunk of the day to day stuff out of the binder. Some things that I know are long term and for info only I laminate.

I would have done it in a book, but I bought a really pretty paperchase knockoff of a filofax a few years ago so it is criminal not to use it. It is bulky to cart round as it is A5, but my original 'personal' size filofax was too small. i like that it has pockets and slots for things though and I see it as a mobile desk. I no longer bother buying the inserts for it though as they never got used anyway.

I buy different types of lined or gridded paper, colours etc and then hole punch them to fit. It also meant that spreads or pages I use regularly can be printed out and put in where needed. I do index, but do it by section so all collections have a seperate divider to the day to day task lists section. At the end of the month once everything is moved over I paperclip the section of pages together so I can get to where I need to be faster.

I know in essence I am not true bullet journalling, but this system works better for me than just a book. It's just an extra level of flexibility.

I agree that photos in your phone are also a godsend and are an easy way of keeping info handy without arting everything about.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/02/2016 12:57

Oh yeah! I'm still using my Filofax for weekly appts, the 'future planning' element of BuJo, so why don't I just keep those lists in my BuJo. Duh! Grin
I already keep many lists in there eg 'things I've achieved in my life' and NY resolutions, things I often want to review. Silly me!

CoperCabana · 09/02/2016 12:58

So, you know the Monthly Task list - how does that work with the Daily Logs. If there is something on the Monthly List that you intend to do that day, do you write it on the Daily Log?

Decided I will have a Wellbeing tracker. I will log days I take 10,000+ steps, days I do 30+ active minutes, days I walk the school run, lbs lost, inches lost, number of bags to charity, yoga sessions. As all those things improve me wellbeing and mental health considerably.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/02/2016 13:00

Clever to buy your own paper and cut it to size, and use paper clips and stuff. Why did i never think of that!! My Filofax needs some TLC I think Wink

nattyknitter · 09/02/2016 13:03

Some might say tightfisted over clever Bendy and they'd be right!!!

MuddhaOfSuburbia · 09/02/2016 13:16

this looks great

for the last 5 years or so I've been writing everything down in little £1 notebooks from tiger

I have hods of the things, all full. Which I daren't chuck out, in case there's something CRUCIAL in there. And I don't have time to go through 58 shopping lists from 2012 to see if there is

I am sitting here with my new bright blue Leuchtturm and a black frixion ..thinking about how to make my bullet journal pretty ! Will report back !

mercifulTehlu · 09/02/2016 13:35

Hello all you newbies Smile.
So... is anyone finding that they've got a collection or an aspect of their BuJo that's not working so well?

Personally, I'm doing really badly with my habit tracker. I like the idea of it, but I'm finding I'm so busy bustling on with all my tasks that the habit tracker just isn't high enough on my priority list!

OP posts:
BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/02/2016 13:46

Oh I'm lovinnnnng my Habit tracker!!! I only have about 8 things on there though and all small things so it's not too taxing. Not to say I do everything everyday though!
Not a collection but I did a 6 month calendar - not sure why, not seeing the point for me personally.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 09/02/2016 13:46

Already done a few jobs from my Megalist so that's a good one! :)

RainbowDashed · 09/02/2016 13:49

I think that rather than coming up with a list of collections (!) I'm going to wait and see what I need to track, and add it as and when. I can see a habit tracker going the same way as yours Tehlu so will maybe add one later in the year when I have more time to get the steps in.

Just got back from a lunchtime jolly to The Works and come back with some gel pens and some more sticky tabs. It's official I am now a BuJo wanker.

mercifulTehlu · 09/02/2016 14:04

BuJo wanker Grin I want some coloured pens! Popped into a little gift shop near Aldi today which has some stationery, but no pens I liked.

Can somebody explain how the daily log works over the whole month. I've set my journal up, and have daily log starting on page 7 for today, 9th February.

What happens if I want to put a menu planner list and a freezer list into my journal? Do I put them on pages 8 and 9, then go back to February daily log on page 10?

mercifulTehlu · 09/02/2016 14:15

Yes - daily log isn't designed to be set up in advance, so just turn to the next available double page, do your freezer list, then continue with your daily logs on the following page.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2016 14:27

I have had one of these for ages. Unfortunately the only thing it had in it, once I'd summoned up the courage to sully the pristine book, was the front page which has appointments on it. As I use an erasable pen, I can update the time/date for these.

I've just added a page for Lists, all written on cute animal post it notes I bought last Christmas and never wrapped. These are my lists of things I need to get whilst out in various places (IKEA, town, Waitrose...) I've now added P3 which has my Today and Always to do lists. Written on post its so I can swap them out as required.

My book is a A6 Sigel Conceptum with a lovely turquoise felt cover, pen loop, rear envelope, front flap and is already page numbered with a printed index page at the front. It has 2 ribbons so I can divide the book in two with the front half perhaps being more permanent stuff and the rear half for notes. It is one of many many note books I possess...

AllMyBestFriendsAreMetalheads · 09/02/2016 14:51

I'm toying with the idea of a second notebook for more 'permanent' lists rather than copying out into a new one every time.

The idea of adding pages in randomly does make me a little uncomfortable as an almost ex filofax user but the index makes it work ok.

I haven't got a habit tracker yet. I've been struggling a bit with my anxiety recently and it felt like something for me to 'fail' at so I just add the small tasks onto my daily log as and when. So, I don't put on 'do laundry' everyday, but on some days I might write 'one load of washing' for one of my tasks as on bad days achieving something can help.

Someone up thread mentioned weekly/monthly household tasks and having to write them out over and over again but something similar to the habit tracker could work there. One big list with all the jobs you want to do and how frequently and you could just tick off a square each time you do it. Or date the square so you know how slack your housekeeping is when you last did it.

Kewcumber · 09/02/2016 15:06

Oh SoupDragon I wanted one of those Sigel but in purple ribbed. EnvyAngry

Promised myself I wouldn;t buy one but make do with a cheapie until it's obvious to me that I'm using the system.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2016 15:37

Purple ribbed sounds positively naughty! :o

I picked mine up in TK Maxx. Along with a beautiful silver leather notebook

TripTrapTripTrapOverTheBridge · 09/02/2016 15:48

Can anyone point me in the direction of a good place to find A4 printouts for mine?

May get some squared paper too but I have a total stationery fetishGrin

Also, is everyone just colouring in squares and bits for things done (can't wait!) or is anyone buying the big sheets of little stickers you can get and using them? (Totally childlike desire Grin )

Ooh, I'm gonna need a big 4 hole hole punch....

Kewcumber · 09/02/2016 15:52

Ooh TK Maxx I hadn't thought of TK Maxx - was it any cheaper?

Purple ribbed notebook are about as naughty as I get these days.

SoupDragon · 09/02/2016 15:54

I think it would have been something like £3.99 or £4.99. I wouldn't' have paid more as I didn't need a notebook, it was just to lovely to leave in the store!

Eggsandketchup · 09/02/2016 16:05

What kind of things are people writing in their daily logs? Also what if you write something to do in your daily log but don't get it done that day? Do you migrate it to the next day or do you only migrate at the end of the month?
