can you relax if your home is messy?

Just that really. I cant sit down until the living room and kitchen have both been tidied (not talking a deep clean or anything, just the dishes done/ toys put away, highchair wiped down etc).

It's not even for my benefit, I honestly wouldn't be that bothered with a bit of mess (well apart from the dishes eurgh) but I sometimes get a visitor (parents) turning up unannounced and would feel I would be judged with a bit of mess about the place. Is anyone else like this or just me?

Doesn't bother me in the least tbh

Redcrayons · 11/10/2015 19:10

Very easily. I'm very lazy and have quite low standards.

I try to make sure there's no dirty dishes in the sink before I go to bed though.

Nonnainglese · 11/10/2015 19:11

I'm with you buddhas
I can't relax in a muddle, I have to tidy up.

madcapped · 11/10/2015 19:11

Yeah I can totally relax when the house is a state!

AnnaMarlowe · 11/10/2015 19:12

Up to a certain level. And then I drag the family into a cleaning frenzy. Grin

buddhasbelly · 11/10/2015 19:13

Maybe I need to lighten up Smile

Part of my issue is that I had pnd when dd was born, now 19m, and when I was at my worst the housekeeping fell apart. I'm still not totally over the pnd so I get paranoid that of people see mess they'll think I've regressed. Maybe I should throw caution to the wind and put all of dd's toys back out Grin

No, I am not bothered by clutter or mess at all. Don't like dirt, but I am blind to untidiness.

lostinabook · 11/10/2015 19:13

I can, hubby can't thus the huffing and puffing means I do it anyway

MajesticSeaFlapFlap · 11/10/2015 19:14

Nope can't sit down till I've cleaned the kitchen, mopped the foor and vacuumed through.

I mop the bathroom just before bed(takes 2 mins)

buddhasbelly · 11/10/2015 19:14

Ooh well it might well turn out to be a 50/50 split between posters Wink

Yes, I'm relaxing now with some wine. whoever is home from work first tomorrow will do tonight's dishes. Wink

Bakeoffcake · 11/10/2015 19:17

I can Easley relax in a mess, very easilyGrin

However I prefer it when it's all lovely and tidy so I tend to do a big clean/tidy twice a week. The rest of the time it's a bit messy.

JuJuWoman · 11/10/2015 19:18

I dont like shit-tip levels of mess. I try to always have the dishes done and crap picked up off the floor before I sit down of an evening. Bt my house is always a bit messy, so my standards are fairly low.

DramaAlpaca · 11/10/2015 19:18

I can't relax if the kitchen is messy & have to clean it up before I settle down for the evening, but that's just me. I'm not bothered about the rest of the house. Out of sight, out of mind. I don't actually care what visitors might think. They have to take me as they find me, mess & all, and I don't care if anyone is judging me.

Ilikeflannels · 11/10/2015 19:19

Nope but I can shut the living room door on any dc mess like homework books and pens and go to bed. Anything like dishes in the sink gets done after dinner.

MrsMummyPig · 11/10/2015 19:21

I'm with you OP. I can't relax unless everywhere is tidy and everything is in its place. Mess and clutter drive me mad. Everything is put away when it's finished with, cleaning is so much easier too if you don't have to tidy up or move everything out of the way first.

Leavingsosoon · 11/10/2015 19:22

I'd never relax if I didn't, so yes!

buddhasbelly · 11/10/2015 19:23

Just me and dd here so unless she grows a few feet overnight to reach the sink suppose I'm doomed to the dishes here agent disregarding the environmental impact, we could just start using paper plates and cups Wink

calzone · 11/10/2015 19:26

Dishwasher is on.
Living room is hoovered.

Am now relaxing.

Can ignore dirt but not clutter.

buddhasbelly · 11/10/2015 19:26

I do sometimes feel it a bit pointless so that the house is tidy for a few hours before my bed and when we're both asleep. It takes approx 15 minutes for it to descend into chaos again the next morning, I dont know how we do it!

OP posts:
JeffsanArsehole · 11/10/2015 19:28

Yep (total slattern)

I've noticed my house is only clean one day a week (when dh hoovers and we all tidy)

The rest of the time it looks like we were burgled

buddhasbelly · 11/10/2015 19:31

Yes calzone I think it's more clutter thats my issue, not too bothered if haven't dusted in a while. Though I do hoover daily, new carpets and dd is good at dropping bits of food and then squishing them into carpet, she manages this even without eating in the living room. Peas, rice krispies appear as if by magic.

hellhasnofurylikeahungrywoman · 11/10/2015 19:59

Nope, a quick hoover round, piles of junk sorted and filed in their rightful place, kitchen tidy, floors mopped then I can relax.

Ridingthegravytrain · 11/10/2015 20:01

No. Wish I could, but I cant

FreeButtonBee · 11/10/2015 20:05

Clutter bugs me so toys tidied, dirty dishes in dishwasher and counters wiped down, general crap relocated back to their rightful place. But can happily ignore mucky floor and a bit of dust.

Don't care quite so much about upstairs - mainly piles of clean clothes to be put away and 2yo DTs currently love to 'go to sleep' I. The spare room bed and I CBA to remake it every day.
