The Hoarders Anonymous Thread Part Two...Still Sorting It Out ~ Together!

Sorting out the home when you're a hoarder (big or small) is never going to be easy and we should know! but having someone else to support you, talk about it with you and make you feel much less of a freak of mother nature makes a huge difference!

If you are any of the following:
A hoarder. In a mess. Untidy. Disorganised. Lazy with housework that has lead to something that you now feel unable to deal with. If you are ill and not coping with the housework. If you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason. If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please join us. No one here will judge you. We have something in common and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small.

Welcome to thread number 2! :)

Hello,
I am someone who lives in clutter everywhere. Stairs clear which makes me feel not quite at television stage yet ie tunnelling upstairs. Do shimmy down narrow upstairs hall...
Hard to know where to start. Surfaces cluttered, corners, behind curtains. Cupboards, drawers etc, etc. Lot of crap.
Messy dh too who is a hoarder.
Children's bedrooms not too bad as made real effort in the summer as felt guilty.
Do have a deadline of sorts as friends over early Feb. Am realistic in even if decluttered/ organised will need decorating but feel friends will forgive that.
I am ashamed of my disorganised pile of a life at home....
Half term not great time as kids about but hey.... hello....

fuzzpig · 26/10/2015 18:15

Hi Jasmine welcome :) it's rather quiet on here, but supportive nonetheless.

I'm determined to start making headway again now. I've completed a couple of big work-related projects and so no longer have that hanging over me (they were both extremely enjoyable projects, but still I'm such a procrastinator that anything like that weighs heavy on me IYSWIM!) and have more free time and, supposedly, energy.

Yesterday DH was getting a toy out for DCs and brought out a bag of random crap which we managed to sort through - lots remained uncategorisable at the end though, it's those tiny little things which I really struggle with. But I can't just tip the lot in the bin...

ScentedJasmine · 26/10/2015 19:29

I think people always bit shocked by our house and clutter explosion. I do not have a visitor ready, dinner party type of house and I wish I did. Garden a continuation of our house scruffy wise and windowsills- I could go on...
I'll try a kitchen cupboard tomorrow- maybe!
Nice to meet you fuzzpig....

A hearty welcome from me too Jasmine :) I too am a over cluttered bug! No one see's my messy house, so no judgement or surprised faces from people.

I'm just off to bed now. Catch you all tomorrow perhaps. :)

Evenin' all!

I've been a little out of sorts the last month or so. Between illnesses and a down spell it's been bad times for the sorting. Back up to speed now.

Half-term here, I've been hiding in the kitchen with a metric fuckton of Mr muscle and Zoflora today. The cats are most perplexed but I'm sure it will be worth it in the end. I ordered some plastic baskets and have sorted half the junk into sensible sections. More coming next week for the other half.

Hope everyone is well. I'm off to finish cooking. Slimming World is going to kill me, I'm sure:o

ScentedJasmine · 27/10/2015 19:15

Well, I didn't clean a cupboard as half heartedly said I might.
Moved something to shed and cleaned [a bit] behind bin as discovered, under all bags there, that discarded lolly sticks from my children... sticky...
Such a big job its daunting...

ProcrastinatorGeneral · 29/10/2015 12:58

It was all looking so neat, then the shopping arrived

I've discovered that my laundry smells fucking amazing when I put a few drops of citrus zoflora in with the powder in the drawer. My house smells awesome!

Solo · 01/11/2015 10:30

Hello :) how are we all?
That sounds a great tip for a good scent in the house General Thanks I might try that with the Christmassy Zoflora...which washing products do you use though as that might make a difference. I use Surf these days and Comfort.
I don't know about anyone else, but a year or two ago, the laundry smelled lovely and even just touching it made the scent jump out at you! but they seem to have done their usual trick and stopped the loveliness after luring people in to buy their products.

I haven't done much here at home...Blush

I use Aldi's bio as it's the bomb! I put the zoflora in the powder section so the scent washes in with the long part of the cycle. I use unperfumed softener so the laundry smells lovely.

Solo · 01/11/2015 12:29

Yes I wondered about that Goose but I tend to buy what's a good price when it is iyswim? I'll buy 2 or 3 a week if I can for several weeks, building up a stock. Just bought 3 bottles of Comfort at £2 each.
Haven't tried Aldi's though...yet!

Oh and I buy the liquid washing stuff too, not powder nowadays.

OP posts:
ProcrastinatorGeneral · 01/11/2015 13:24

The liquid stuff isn't as good at washing (doesn't have the oxy bleach in that powder has), and is not good for the machine either as it leaves a sludgy residue all over the show so I gave up on it years ago. Powder goes further too, which being a Yorkshire woman makes me happy :o

Solo · 01/11/2015 13:56

Might have to give it a go! thank you Grin I'm half Yorkshire too, so know what you mean! Wink, but I just hated the mess and half powder left in the drawer.

OP posts:
ProcrastinatorGeneral · 01/11/2015 14:45

You can chuck the powder straight in the drum if you want. I use half a dose and it does the job beautifully :)

If you have a lidl their powder is supposed to be good too, and so much more bearable price wise than the main brands.

Thank you both :) I will have to try it out. Quite a few years ago, my Mum bought be those wash ball things, but I've yet to try them out...one day!

It's official... I have Asperger's! Had my assessment and it was exhausting but yep, I am indeed on the spectrum as I thought. Bit overwhelmed but feel pretty positive. Specialist was really lovely. :)
