Can anyone recommend some fitted sheets that actually fit on a mattress?

Since we bought new beds and mattresses for everyone (in the last 2 years) we've really struggled to find any fitted sheets that are deep enough to actually fit on them. Even some of the supposedly 'extra deep' sheets we've bought are barely deep enough when bought (just reaching the underside of the mattress) and then shrink as soon as they're washed (so they don't stay on).

None of them are especially fancy mattresses, and they're standard UK sized singles (for the kids) and a king-size (for us). DS2's mattress isn't even particularly deep. DS1's and our mattresses are deeper, but not ludicrously so. They're roughly the same as all the other mattress in the shops.

So does anyone have any recommendations for fitted sheets that actually fit a mattress? I don't want flat sheets because they're harder to put on (I have arthritis everywhere and want something simple) and inevitably go all wrinkly). I just want a fitted sheet that actually fits our mattresses.

I ended up buying some elastic straps which clip onto the side of the sheet and under the mattress, and stop the sheet from untucking.

paxtecum · 17/04/2015 21:21

I buy flat sheets.

Should have said that I buy king size flat sheets for a double bed. They don't come untucked.

I am a veteran of extra-deep sheet threads.

Many moons ago i was told to use elastic sheet strap clip things. Like this

And yes, they are the solution.

it would be better if the bed companies made sheets that fit the fucking mattresses though.

I bought one from Amazon that I'm pleased with. Doesn't budge and has been washed and tumble dried. The seller is called 'blueberry' or similar. Search 'deep fitted sheet' and you should see them. It is a stretchy (towelling jersey) one, not sure what you're after.

CalamitouslyWrong · 17/04/2015 21:27

The problem is that I really can't do flat sheets. It's hard enough dealing with the mattress to just pull a fitted sheet over the corners, but I can't do the lifting and pulling and folding that flat sheets require.

It's definitely that the sheets just don't fit the mattress, as DH can't get them to stay put in any of the beds either.

I got deep ones in Next. Very good.

CalamitouslyWrong · 17/04/2015 21:30

I'm mostly after sheets that fit at this point. Grin also being nice would be a bonus.

The straps look interesting. How easy are they to attach? (For one with little grip strength?)

Why is it so difficult to buy sheets that fit any mattress bought in the last few years? It doesn't make any sense.

Next deep fit here too.

inmylife · 17/04/2015 21:36

Viceroy bedding online, 16 inch/40 cm sheets are only ones that fit my mattress

NormHonal · 17/04/2015 21:38

If you've ever used clip-on braces to hold up trousers (maybe - they were all the rage in the late-80's Grin) then the clips are the same as those.

White Company sell two different depths. I think John Lewis do too, but I looked in both ships on the same day & am not quite sure.

confusedandemployed · 18/04/2015 07:15

Dunelm do extra deep. Would never go back to normal now!

nooyearnooname · 18/04/2015 07:27

John Lewis deep ones are...erm, deep. Our mattress is quite thick and we have a feather topper on it and never have a problem with the sheet staying on.

CalamitouslyWrong · 18/04/2015 07:33

The dunelm mill ones are crap. We've tried them and they are of the just fitting and then shrinking immediately so they don't fit type.

Thanks for the other suggestions. I'll check them out (and possibly buy some braces for our sheets too!)

Soak and Sleep deep do the trick.

mrsmeerkat · 18/04/2015 11:09

Next deep are brilliant. Also good quality. One of the only things I go into next for these days.

LBOCS · 19/04/2015 00:17

The White Company ones are great and do stay on. I bought mine in their last sale and they worked out at the same price as the ones in JL.
