Sorry I can't do all the links that were on the top of thread 7.

JKS I had to Kondo my baking cupboard when half a dozen things fell into the cake mix I was making, when I tried to find the Vanilla essence.

Iqueen · 03/04/2015 10:56

whatsonyourplate There's nothing more motivating to 'instant kondo' than an avalanche! Grin

My vanilla and other flavourings are shelved, standing in the clear plastic tray that pre-oacked bacon comes in. As MK says, the container and, surprisingly, the narrow space presented themselves at just the right moment.

Iqueen · 03/04/2015 10:57

pre-packed!

JKSLtd · 03/04/2015 13:40

One of the cake boards was only just balancing on pots of out of date baking powder. Could have been messy Grin

Gibble1 · 03/04/2015 13:43

I don't do any washing unless it appears in the basket. Hence the days with multiple wash loads.
Sadly no room in my bedroom for the bureau unless I am able to somehow swap it with DH's little desk but it'll be better elsewhere. It has silly shallow drawers unfortunately so is not really any use. I may just sell it on the local pages, then get something which suits our needs better.
Shall ponder on that.

Mummyk1982 · 03/04/2015 16:29

I am still Kondo'ing the wrong way- but none the less it's getting done (having a just turned 1 year old makes it challenging to follow the order specifically). So the other day I got rid of two bin bags of clothes. And today I have another bin bag of 11 hand bags! It's so liberating to get rid of it all!!! My husband is still alarmed at how much is going to the charity shop- I can't tell if he's confused as to what's gotten in to me (I'm usually a major hoarder!!), or whether e is concerned that I'm cleaning stuff jut so I can buy new stuff!! :-)
Hopefully moving three weeks today so really want everything kondo'd before the removals guys come to pack!!!

defk0ndo · 03/04/2015 16:31

No kondoing for me today.

I did, however, save myself from buying a basket which I thought might be good for storing pencils and pens when at the last minute I decided it was not good enough quality/the wrong colour.... Have noted the idea.

Stopping the flow of items which are just 'ok'.....

defk0ndo · 03/04/2015 16:33

Wow, mummy, 11 handbags! That's a lot. Good if you feel lighter.

I still haven't got far with my papers. Feeling anxious even at the thought. What does that say about my state of mind?!

Mummyk1982 · 03/04/2015 17:31

I've left myself 4 plus the bag I use on flights when we go away :-)

NotCitrus · 03/04/2015 20:57

I took a trolley of stuff to charity shop yesterday. Ds bought one small cool toy. This weekend we have a huge party that friends have decorated our house for, so will need to ensure all tat is removed after. I think I need to redo the toiletries and meds and makeup categories now I've spent some months getting them together.

defk0ndo · 03/04/2015 22:56

Can I just rave about how easy it was to pack for a trip after kondoing (both in terms of finding stuff and planning what to take. Easier to focus on what we really need rather than trying to plan for every eventuality.

Zippidydoodah · 04/04/2015 09:15

Hi all! Completely fell off the wagon and have only just rediscovered the new thread! Hopefully might get a small chance to do some kondoing now that it's Easter hols... But, I've been feeling so guilty about not having much quality time with my 3 very young dc that I'm going to try and do that more. Definitely takes priority over kondoing I think! Will try and follow the thread though and take inspiration from you all!

CycleChic · 04/04/2015 15:57

Well, I didn't finish the papers and the ones that I get a say in (mine and household ones- DH is on his own for his and DD is too little to have papers as such.) are all over the lounge! we're away now so that'll be a crap thing to come home to :(

stiffstink · 04/04/2015 18:09

Been kondoing the garden today, filled the garden waste bin and half filled the household waste bin.

It looks quite a task because of random lumps of brick and concrete. DH thinks we need a skip but to do that we will need a clear path to the front of the house. We have steep steps at the side of the house so the Garage of Komono Doom will need to be cleared first. I think we need a skip for that too!

I did at least get rid of DS's outdoor toys, they are now stored in his playhouse. Also got someone collecting the water butt which is taking up room and has been something we planned to connect to a gutter 4 yrs ago but didn't. Thanks big butt and goodbye!

defk0ndo · 04/04/2015 22:16

2 folders down. A start has been made!
I will get there.

holmessweetholmes · 05/04/2015 10:18

I have fallen off the Kondo waggon and am hoping this thread will inspire me to get back onto it! My drawers, once a vision of beautifully folded vision of loveliness, are now a horrible jumble Sad.

prettymess · 05/04/2015 11:43

I'm reading the book!

Do I start with just 'my' stuff or everyone's? e.g. do I sort through husband's or kid's clothes too?

NowhereNow · 05/04/2015 12:08

I've just read the book and have also read a couple of the previous threads. I am tentatively joining in, hoping that it might help me get started and to stick with it. I have some questions for you seasoned Kondo-ers.

With paper are you meant to thank each item you get rid of?

Also, I have a very disorganised, cluttered house. Things are all jumbled together and lots of things in boxes so the prospect of sorting by category seems very daunting. I was having an emergency sort out of my desk while looking for a document and as well as papers there was lots of random stuff - I put all the jewellery I unearthed into a ziplock bag. I started another for toiletries, another for buttons/thread etc. Is this the best plan, to sort into categories as you go but delay dealing with it (unless it's obvious that you want to get rid?)?

Also, something that is slightly holding me back with the clothes sorting is that I would like to do a house of colour style day and I'm a bit worried about getting rid of the wrong stuff. But I guess if it's the right style then it will spark joy, so this is probably just a procrastination technique Grin

Iqueen · 05/04/2015 12:54

MK says only do your own stuff. This is good advice, because you can more easily make decisions about your own things.

As results come quickly with the clothes category, it motivates you further, and other family members, can become interested in kondoing their own stuff. Children should be involved in decisions about their stuff unless they are too young.

Jointly owned stuff has proved successful in konverting OHs, according to the threads I've read, because decisions need to be agreed. Frequently, kondoing CDs and DVDs or books together, results in OHs kondoing categories that are normally 'their responsibility'.

Oops, paperwork! I have made a start, on urgent paperwork, but have now stalled on the rest... perhaps because I forgot to mutter thanks to the crap documents that I discarded? Hmm

Going back in!

JKSLtd · 05/04/2015 16:48

Seized the day and washed some garden toys and listed them on fb to go for free. Sand and water tray collected in half an hour. Fantastic.
And they gave us an Easter egg as a thank you Smile
Trike and workbench still waiting.
Also binned all the cheap crappy water pistols. We can get more that actually work this year.

standingonlego · 05/04/2015 21:25

Climbing back on the kondo train after some time away...

DH after I totally laughing at sock folding (so I stopped doing his!) has asked that we restart as he misses seeing his socks look happy Grin

prettymess · 05/04/2015 21:56

Thanks Iqueen!

I was just talking to DH about it all. I find some aspects a little whimsical but then other parts of her book really click with me.

I was in town yesterday getting fleeced by buying new clothes for DD and I saw BiL and the rest of his crew. We were yapping for ages and SiL commented that she'd lost a pile of work tops as they had been somehow put in the loft instead of being ironed. I said that I had spent the whole of the last week tidying the kids rooms. BiL said that DH had mentioned kondoing to him and is convinced I have been throwing his stuff away as he can't find anything. I explained to BiL that I felt for DH as I haven't done any of his ironing for ages and therefore his clothes are all in the ironing basket Blush!
Have done a bit more of DS's room, boxed up the DVDs and packed DD off to Weymouth for a week of sailing. I am going under her bed, it is rank!

stiffstink · 06/04/2015 07:23

I came home from church yesterday to find DH kondoing the Garage of Kimono! No prompting needed!

He didn't kondo quite as strictly as I wold like because it will definitely need round 2 but there is almost enough space for... a car! On the downside, all the crap is now on the driveway to go to the tip over several journeys today.
